FWIW, this yellow tang came from Dave Sun. In his larger tank, it was with at least one other yellow tang and maybe other tangs too. It got along fine there, but that is no guarantee how it will behave for you because who knows how long those had grown together (might have been added small). Have you ever tried an acrylic fish trap? Those things work wonders catching fish. That's how I plan to get the yellow out of my tank once I have a buyer.

Can you pull the desjardini for a few days, add the yellow then add the desjardini back? *shameless plug - still have available yellow tang *

If you are referring to my comment above - a few years. After that, I lost track of the owners or the big tanks came down.
-
In that same vein, I don't really think there are negative comments or personal attacks in this thread. I read a discussion of an important topic in which people have offered their perspective in a way as constructive criticism. No one wants to see a good store close.
-
Its generally not recommended unless you have a big tank. That said, many try and it does work out sometimes.
-
An Achilles could be OK in that sized tank. I'm aware of several that lasted a long time in large 8' tanks. If you decide you want to add a yellow to the mix, I have a nice one available.

You can add a little honey for a special occasion too.

I have never once said anything about them other than I haven't been there and I've only heard good things. It isn't my job to track them down and keep them in business. Its their job to find customers and entice them to come in.

Maybe it isn't at BRK and F&F, but it is exactly what they do at the LFS closest to my house. The next closest is Roozens and I do go there time to time and have bought things. The point about show me what you got is that if BRK is where its at I have no way to know that and would have to give up a half day and associated fuel money just to go see what they have.

If the money isn't in fish and corals and the profits are in maintenance, other pet goods, and koi/pond building/maintenance, why then would they care if we all shop online. There must be some money in it or there wouldn't be such a fuss. Its a good idea to diversify your offerings. Before I moved here, I never would have thought about combining a greenhouse with a saltwater fish store, but apparently it works. No one has suggested there aren't costs to doing business. Whoever packed that box at the internet seller got paid and it came from a tank consuming electricity too. Every business has costs. I also don't think there is any correlation between shopping online and being lazy. I probably spend far more time looking at different places and reading reviews and comparisons when I buy online precisely because I can't see the stuff before I purchase. When I buy local, I walk in, look, decide if I like it and if it is being offered for a fair price and buy. I "support the LFS" when they have stuff I like at a reasonable price. I don't expect them to beat online prices, but I won't pay triple either. I think there is a way for there to be an LFS, but if they just can't compete, then I guess there won't be any. I don't buy into the pay triple or there won't be an LFS theory though.

This isn't an issue of me being able to solder. Its an issue of me being lazy and wanting to buy them ready to go

Maybe. I've got frogspawn, a hammer coral, and a couple acans in the tank. The tang isn't eating the algae. If he did, I wouldn't have needed the sea hare......
-
No other lacerations. No detectable nitrates or ammonia. I don't have a phosphate test kit, but I am running GFO and battling the algae. I don't think the test kit would read anything because whatever there is should be being absorbed by the GFO and the algae.

Anyone know what kind of connectors rapid led is using on their solderless LEDs? I'm thinking of putting together a strip of blue LEDs for supplementation and I'd like to use LEDs on connectors so that I can replace them easily if one dies but I don't want to use their board and instead want to just wire up a receiving terminal near where each LED goes. But, I'm not sure what type of connector it is that they use.

I acclimated it for a long time and had it for a week or two, so I don't think it was an acclimation problem. I just checked the graphs and there is nothing strange about the pH. I have a daily swing from about 8-8.25 that coincides with the photo period.

It was a very centered cut. I think you guys are right. The tang is off the hook, but he's still up for trade. The sea hare was making headway on the algae, but without him, I'm going to need to be in the tank pruning more and I don't want to get barbed. I wish I knew why it is expired though........
-
Yes, it looked like a shell sticking out. Sort of like the door on a snail, but with a clean cut over that spot. I didn't realize they had a shell. There is no sign of ink or reaction by anything else in the tank, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. There was still plenty of food in the tank so I don't think it starved, though a lot of the algae is going into what I am calling its brown phase. It periodically goes brown at the tips and leaves a brown smear on anything it touches. Seems like it might be dying but then the nasty stuff springs back to life on me. I have a couple power heads in the tank, but they are no where near the rock work. I had seen the sea hare on the sand and in the rocks, but never crawling the glass, which it would have to do to get to a powerhead. The tang has been a little aggressive with me lately. That's why I wasn't sure if it could have been the tang on purpose, or by accident maybe going around a corner and hitting it with its tail?
-
So, I came home and discovered my sea hare dead sitting on the sand bed. He had a clean cut across his back and the guts were pushing out. If it had been a predator, I would have expected some tearing or missing flesh where it had attacked and eaten, but there was none of that. Just a knife clean cut. Could this have been the work of the tang?

It's a general letter and my comments are mostly general in nature though I did give a specific example above. They aren't a critique of either of those stores. As I said, I've heard nothing but good things about BRK but haven't made it to shop there personally yet.
-
I don't think its a question of getting it and you're right, it absolutely is not a game. Its more of a different perspective really. I'd like to see good LFS stay in business and do well. But, its just not going to happen on the sympathy of customers. That perspective, the one in the letter, is one that will have a hard time surviving (IMHO). To be successful, the LFS, like any business, needs to adapt to meet the needs of its customers.

Need to borrow a ro/di membrane filter wrench

I lost mine too and also used a strap wrench. -
That's true. I can window shop from the computer for free. Getting to the LFS costs me a lot in time and fuel.
-
You probably won't. The fish will probably eat them.

Snail eggs.

Anyone know where you can get a copy of the book "Clownfishes"

Try Dirk Griffin of the Real Reefers Store. He tours trade shows and always has a pile of books. 651-388-7319 If an insurance agency answers the phone, you don't have the wrong number, that's him.
