  1. Is that a micromussa colony I see hiding out in one of the pics? PM sent.
  2. Some of the digital and probe test monitors are relatively expensive, and the price could make a person pass on buying one. not all though.. some maybe in the 40 - $50 range.
  3. Ohh... Theres some. for certain parameters. trite, calcium, trate, phos ect.. Its the initial cost on some of them that are off putting..
  4. I like to read stuff like that! I've had/sold cultured (TR'ed) hippos. NEVER a spot of ich! Got me thinking.. what's next? Congrats on the school acceptance L8.
  5. It can be quite a dilemma. IMHO, I'd invest in a unit. It's probably better to get a larger one so you don't have to run it as long either. You should definitely compare the difference in your water bill. On one side you have gas money and trekking water every week into your apartment, and skipping lunch one day week! On the other, you can buy a large bucket of salt that will last you a good while, spend the intial cost for a RO/DI, pump, heater and resevoir. and the cost of replacing filters every year or so, give or take a few months. Since Ive been doing this, I've seen the convenience of both, but like randumbwit said, you dont want to be out of water at a bad time. Not trying to take dollars away from Marinescene(buy the unit from them!), but Im sure alot of peoples goals on here is to make their tank thrive and be as self sufficient as possible. An RO unit and ATO will put you on that path.
  6. Yeah.. 9 times out of 10 you got to take something out in that situation. The water is probably easiest given its small space as well.
  7. Nassarius snails do well and are fun to look at. Slow IS the way to go! Always have a PLAN before the purchase! Looks like everyone on here already has you on the right path. Youre in good hands!
  8. Reading and having a plan before purchase. (joyfully weeping) I like you already! Welcome, we need more guys like you! Well at least I do!
  9. To piggyback Der ABT dipping would be next on my agenda too. try to do it at night after your lights been off for a few hours. Your more than likely able to catch something.
  10. Definitely check your parameters. Especially Alk. What fish do you have? You may want to examine the tank at night for tiny snails roaming in the colony as well.
  11. Paraphrasing the replies: Angels+ clams, zoos, lps, sponges, and some sps..... Are you a gambling man?
  12. You've read right! Pro cosign on putting them in at the same time! Other than that.....
  13. Bringing WAMAS a breath of fresh air in saltwater!

  14. As someone who has been known to move tanks from time to time, it seems like you're on the right path! 900 gph IMO, may be a little strong for a 40B, but if you're splitting the flow, it should be cool. Have you thought about drilling the 40B? Usually during tank moves, I usually add a concentrated bacterial supplement at the end to help with any parameters that may rise a little due to disturbing the sand bed, and to get the "new" set up an added boost. Nowadays I use Start Smart by TLC. Its relatively inexpensive for your size tank and it really helps with cycling. I even use it for some of my maintenance clients. What Jon Lazar said previously couldnt have been said any better. Plan, organize, and don't make too many other plans until after the job is done! Moving tanks and tank transfers are the most time consuming things I've ever done while working with aquariums.
  15. Yeah, I've had clowns by the tank full. Seems totally normal.
  16. Some caulerpa such as paddle fin, grow like crazy! A small sprig breaking off from the sump and landing in the main tank COULD be the start of invasion, like mentioned earlier, chaeto is asexual and easier to control. I also like how it helps with nutes. Grape caulerpa is decent. Red gracillia algae looks good and isn't as invasive either. There's plenty more out there, it seems like the ones mentioned throughout this post is most common.
  17. Piggybacking Oragami. IMO Injecting is good at the first sight of one or two aiptasia. Or just tanks full of predators instead of corals. Any more, or if some are located in areas like the sump, go with peppermint shrimp. For areas not accessable to livestock (overflow) try to inject them. Whatever you do, don't try to manually remove them! A ripped up aiptasia turns into an aiptasia farm in no time! I have to admit, I'm more of a pepp man! They act as aiptasia assassins. On research and experience, I can say about 3 in 5 will destroy aiptasia for you. I wouldnt put too much faith in anyone selling you an aiptasia eating fish unless you see him do it. Regardless of what info is online.
  18. Im Saltwaterworx. Im a small aquarium maintenance company located just outside of Waldorf, MD. Lately I was fortunate enough to get out of a bad lease due to a torn roof, but now Im starting all over. We've had maintenance contracts for customers going on 5 years. Restaraunts, hotels, offices, to houses. Over the last couple of years, I've been venturing more into the livestock side of things. I've been in the saltwater aquarium and pet field all my adult life, and even longer as a hobbyist. What I don't have in size and overall tank space, I make up for it in quality! We've carried just about any species of coral and fish you can think of, and often special order for clients and hobbyists alike. ALL livestock is thoroughly examined and quarantined before sale unless otherwise discussed pre-purchase. I cater to novices and experts alike and give them the best insight I can for any situation. Being a maintenance company first, I ty to specialize in high end and high quality livestock, especially those hard to find. It breaks the monotony of the "finding nemo" tanks I see from week to week. I generate business from all over tracking down things for customers. You want it, I'll get it! I offer a 10% discount to all paid members. To all wanting to know more about what we do... Call, PM, post, or email. I'll be more than glad to assist you! 19. Nones being asked for. I dont even know you. I said my piece. Take with it what you want.
  20. At this point, I feel I must defend myself. I'm a grown man and I'm not one for going back and forth via a keyboard. Any self respecting man or woman would confront the situation head on instead of falsely slandering ones name on a forum. What the "ripped off" customer is mentioning in his post totally false. If you really read it, he doesnt make sense. We have had a slight business relationship over the past few weeks in where I was giving him high end and rare fish at unbelievable discount prices, for example, a semilarvatus butterfly for a little over $100. All the prices the customer is quoting is irrelavent. He's a big boy. He bargained his own prices and paid what HE wanted. It amazing how much praise was given to me in my face everytime I seen said customer for the quality of the fish, and then by the time I turn my back, a barrage of curses and complaints followed. I literally thought I was being punked, or someone had to put him up to it. Not to mention, I would bring said fish straight to his door at no extra charge. All day and all hours of the night I would literally be harrassed by phone calls and text messages(I have proof) from said customer begging for this fish and that fish, and asking for unreasonable discounts, claiming he could always get a better deal. My question is why deal with me then? I'm sorry if I can't give you a 12" queen angel for $100. I even replaced a fish he claim "died" darn near before I even made it back from delivering the fish to his house, no questions asked. Is that not service. So I guess its cool to let a vendor know that the type of review they get depends on how much free stuff you give to them. I guess this is some weaker peoples form of extortion. To all those co-signing his message, I see no merit. I have done business with none of you. Especially certain sponsors, whos have stuff to say about vendors. Ive heard some say getting people to overpay for nothing has got some sponsors on here rich, so lets not go there. I guess I should've paid more money to the club then huh? I never wouldve thought that someone would drag my business name into the mud like that with no grounds to stand on and then get a whole bunch of responses like "i told you so" from people who dont even know me. It's real easy to use a forum to talk negatively about something or someone, true or not. Anyone who hasn't patronized my business, I encourage them to. To the "ripped off" customer who wants to try to sabotage my livelihood with false statements, I encourage you to set up an official appointment with me and see if your comments flow as freely in my face as it does on your monitor. Your last series of messages in the middle of the night to me were disrespectful. Im sure I can fit you somewhere on my schedule.
  21. Along with other corals and other livestock, I'm picking up about 7 purple tangs. 5 small @ $120 each and 2 medium @ $150 each. I technically have one of each size available, being that a few were preordered. I also have a 5-6" sohal tang for $175. Ordering more is a phone call away, so if there's anything you need in particular, let me know. There is a 10% club discount!
