Hatchling (3/13)

  1. Lots of them in lakes around here. I have seen bigger ones at Greenbelt lake.
  2. I have been thinking about the sand and how I will use what I have. I dont want I deep sandbed just enough for the snails and to help keep rocks from moving too much. I think I will buy a bag of new sand and put that in first. I am not worried too much about nutrients in the 20 gal sand as it is only 1-2" deep and I always stir it up. Now the 90gal sandbed is 4-5" deep and I only stir up the top couple inches of it. So my plan is to but the new bag in then all the sand from the 20 gal and finally use the top layer from the 90 gl (mostly shells and small pieces of ruble rock) to top it off. Also would the overflow and pump from the 20 gl work on a 40 breeder (300 gph)? Here is a pic of the 90 that I will be breaking down with all the rock and coral I am getting rid of.
  3. I thought about using the pump and overflow from the 20 but it is only 250-300 gph and the stand I made will have an extra 11" of head. My thinking on the mag 9 is I would need one less powerhead in the tank and using the squid I would get alternating flow. I am doing a water change tonight and will make another 40gal this week for the move.
  4. I currently have two tanks up and running for over two years. My first tank is a 90 gal chock full of softies and over 170#s of nice rock, Falco hawk fish, perc clown, royal gramma, coral beauty and lots of hermits , brittle and serpent stars. This tank has a 29 gal sump/fuge and has 500 watts of power compact lighting. The other tank is a 20 long with a 20 long sump/fuge and 100 watts of t5 lighting. It is over grown with lps and some sps, there are three fish ( two black and white clowns and a watchman goby) plenty of hermits and snails and a few brittle stars. The two tanks have become too hard for me to give proper care to and way too much $ in salt, bulbs and time. My plan is to set up a 40 breeder and just run one tank for now. I picked up the 40 breeder, built a stand and bought my lights (6 bulb t5 fixture) and plan on making the move maybe next weekend. I have to breakdown the 90 before I set up the 40 because the 40 is going were the 90 is now and I don't want to have to move it once I set it up. My plan is to sell the hawkfish, the two black and white clowns, all of the soft coral and most of the rock out of the 90. I then would use the overflow (rated@900 gph), return pump (mag 9) and the 29gal sump/fuge from the 90. The pump would be split three ways, a bypass to the fuge and two returns using a squid. Then I will use all of the rock and sand from the 20 long (sand bed is not very deep 1-2") and some of the sand and rock from the 90gal to set up the 40.I plan on putting the coral and fish in buckets and then move all rock, sand and water from the 20 into the 40 then topping off with fresh saltwater and starting up the system. Does anyone see a problem with this move? . Also how should I go about getting rid of all the coral and rock in the 90 quickly? Any help will be very helpful. Thanks in advance, Jim
  5. I would be scared of a $700 fish. It is awsome looking though!
  6. Wow is all I can say, pretty dang awsome
  7. Awsome tank, I like the rock work alot.
  8. Very interesting thread, I am planning on dipping some of my plugs that have some gha on them.
  9. Just turned the lights on to grab a quick pic of them.
  10. Mt. Rainier Md....I have PLENTY to spare lol
  11. I have tons of these small snails in my tank any guesses as to what they are? When I say tiny I would say the largest is maybe 1/4 inch. When I say tons I mean thousands of them. You only see them after lights out and they seam to only eat algae and don
  12. Wow......guess it will hold a tank with ease....sherman or 180gal...lol
