  1. Make sure that your emergency contacts are programmed into your phone.
  2. For the record: I'd love to be part of a NC WAMAS diving trip to help catch you a free Lion.
  3. Paul: Print this thread and take it to the Veteran's Administration as absolute proof of prior exposure to agent orange . . . you have some definite cash coming your way . . . [JK, you know I love your threads/keep 'em coming!]
  4. I too would take it down, open it, and tighten all the screws down: suspect something is loose.
  5. Use gloves. Careful not to breath fumes. Try not to fill bucket more than half (water will bubble up when Muriatic is added to bucket). Replace water with each batch for consistent effect (acid will be variablt diluted as H+ used up). I have always poured directly down drain while running water without ill effect, but sodium bicarbonate would make sense. Not sure how long to soak rock or what to expect: I use muriatic all the time, but only to clean (tanks, skimmer, PH, etc)
  6. I am not as strict as Coral Hind: but I have a strict 5 day no touchee policy before leaving on trips. Also: doesn't the RKL monitor and alarm via internet? (I would go crazy not being able to check pH/temp/ORP/Ca rx PH etc remotely whenever I want when away and also know that a parameter out of range prompts an e-mail and text)
  7. As above: feed waaaay less. Try once every other day for a while. Buy an RODI: not too $$$ and pretty easy to figure out.
  8. I use a Spectrapure liter meter pump with an accessory pump: one doses Kalk and the 2nd RODI water. I adjust the rate of the RODI component about once every 4-6 weeks to keep the sump level stable. Zero chance of a float sticking and killing my tank with either Kalk or hyposalinitiy.
  9. We are now in Tahiti (10th Anniversary) and I am again being taunted by these 2 corals. Given how widely distributed across the Pacific they appear to be, I cannot understand how a strain hasn't made it into the hobby. The Rice is an awesome tricolor blue and the Cauliflower is a very nice pink with a very interesting growth pattern.
  10. As above: most LPS (and all NPS) willl be fine in those spots.
  11. Looking forward to the build. Have to ask: why the down size in tank size when you already have a larger tank and lighting?
  12. Absolutely stunning! Very, very, very nice tank!
  13. BTW, not a high roller . . . just a hard worker. And I am now old and wise enough to focus mu $$$ on my reef rather than cars and/or women. Got some leads/exploring and waiting.
  14. I'd use it externally only. Otherwise asking for trouble (even after a Macgyver)
  15. I'd be happy to donate a few damsels to the dedicated angler tank.
  16. Sportzfish: Thanks for the link. I found that a few days back. Tempting, but the guy is down in FLA and I worry about the prospect of receiving a DOA with shipping (which would suck). I am hoping that buying from a local vendor (besides being an indirect way to support our club) will provide some protection from this.
  17. Look instead at the Geo or Avast reactors (easier to see into, dial in for flow, and much less likely to clog)
  18. Jan: Don't be jealous: gonna feed her your food . . . cha ching! . . . John: you got PM.
  19. My tank has been rock stable and I feel like I am ready to take it up a notch go for my long-time dream fish. Anyone looking to sell a Gem tang or seen one recently in their travels? Roozens? Local vendors? On-line sites?

    GFO

I rinse carbon in tap and run both GFO and carbon into a bucket until clear. Both reactor outlets are run 24/7 through a 100 micron sock.
  21. Cut your feeding in half. Double frequency of water exchanges. Research turf scrubbers and/or GFO reactors.
  22. I agree with Oldreefer: hard wire to router if at all possible. I used a relatively quality game adaptor on my prior system and had recurrent reliability issues (it would intermittently and silently lose access to the router). Zero issues since plugging apex directly into router.
  23. +1 for Aurora (Duk Lee) and Graham. I am still waiting for the invite to see Copp's in person. "How did 1500G of saltwater cost THAT much?"
