  1. This might be a crazy question, but has anyone seen or heard of anyone building a stand (kind of like a riser box or something) for an existing stand? Let's say you have a 30" stand, but want to make it taller (say, 40" or so), could you just build another 10" box, sit the 30" stand on top of it, and skin the whole thing so it would look like a single stand? Is this highly unadvisable? Why or why not? Thanks.
  2. This build looks amazing so far. Tagging along for the ride and to learn something new along the way.
  3. Do you happen to have a 38mm diamond hole saw?
  4. I bought 2 40b's for this exact reason! Although I would obviously prefer being successfully on the first one. Haha.
  5. Sorry for the stupid questions, but is a holesaw the same thing as a drill bit?
  6. Thanks for info. I got the Aqueon 40b from Petco during the $1/gal sale. From what I've read, only the bottom of these tanks are tempered.
  7. When is this happening?
  8. Oh, that's right. Makes it easier. I'm looking at their return kits - what's the difference between an Insert Ell and a Street Ell? And which one do I want?
  9. Hahahaha, he's either going to be leaving the meeting hammered or the tanks drilled at the end will be in serious jeopardy of being cracked.
  10. I am fairly flexible in terms of timing since I'm in no rush. Plus I still need to order the complete overflow kit. Glass-holes says that the 1.5" bulkhead needs a 2-3/8" hole and the 3/4" bulkhead needs a 1-1/2" hole. Not sure if that changes anything.
  11. Just to give a little background, I am not a DIYer by any means and don't know much about plumbing. With that said, are there any experienced tank drillers out there that are willing to help drill my tank for me? I'm looking to make 4 holes in a 40b (two 1.5" drains for a 1500gph glass-holes.com overflow and two 3/4" returns from a mag 7) and one 3/4" drain in a 10g. I am willing to provide compensation in cash, food/beer, or anything else your heart desires (well, almost anything). I've seen videos and everyone says how easy it is (and it does look easy), but I just don't have the courage to do it on my own. I would be forever in your debt. Thanks! Peter
  12. I went to the Vienna Petco on Sunday early afternoon to pick up a 40 breeder and the lady said that they were all out because some guy came in at 10am when they opened and bought every single one. Ok, whoever it was, fess up! Haha. I then just drove over to the Tysons Petco and picked up two 40 breeders. They only had one left but the manager said they would be getting more.
  13. It would be amazing to have that in my basement. I would just sit and stare (or swim in it) all day long.
  14. This is huge! I've been waiting for this! Thanks for the info.
  15. Vienna here. Is there any way of summarizing where everyone is located, as opposed to having to scroll through pages of posts (e.g. 10 people live in Vienna, 23 people live in Alexandria, etc)? Perhaps some functionality in the forum website that can summarize based on location entered in a person's profile?
  16. That Gulf Coast Signal Blenny looks pretty sweet. Never seen that before. I wonder how commonly sold it is.
  17. Yeah, I remember walking in there once a few years ago and being a bit concerned about the health of the livestock. I was just driving by and didn't see it anymore. Would be nice to have a reputable fish store in the downtown Vienna area though. Too bad the store wasn't that great to begin with anyways.
  18. +1 on joining WAMAS. Just to give you an example, I was about to buy a reefbreeders LED fixture for $449 retail from their website, but joined in on the group buy here and got it for $319. I would say paying the $20 to save $130 is well worth it! Is Vienna Aquarium still open? I happened to drive by that area (not looking for fish stuff) and didn't see it there.
  19. For the Tyson's pickup tonight, how will we know where to find you? It might be obvious as the guy in the truck handing out pallets of salt, but just in case, can you give us a phone number or a description of your vehicle or what you look like / will be wearing? Thanks.
  20. I will pick up my 1 IO and 2 RC tomorrow night at the Tyson's petco.
  21. I would like 1 box of IO for pick up in Tysons if it's not too late. Thanks.
  22. My son loves those books. Back on topic: Wow, crazy how much snow you guys out west have already gotten. I'm in Vienna and it's starting to come down really hard now. It's the thick, wet, heavy stuff.
  23. Brook is nasty and is very difficult to cure. I've tried treating wild caught clowns for brook with formalin baths, reduced salinity, and a number of other methods and it resulted in death 100% of the time. With that said, I feel like its always worth a shot to treat and cure the fish. Go with the steps monkiboy listed and cross your fingers. Good luck.
  24. Has anyone completed their it2080 LED configuration spreadsheet yet and willing to share it and why you decided to go with the configuration that you did? Thanks.
