  1. As the person credited for rehashing the issue. (according to some) I feel I need to respond. The comment was made in Mr. Corals forum. What I find funny is that my off the cuff comment was then moved to the public forum strictly to (yet again) bash this vendor. It's crazy that people need to defend a paid vendor on this site. My views on this topic have been voiced countless times over. If you don't like him, go elsewhere. If you have some honest constructive comments, voice them. Otherwise we'd all appreciate it if you left the bashing elsewhere.
  2. That looks fine to me. As long as it's not tumbling so hard it grinds up, you should be fine.
  3. Agreed. I like SPS too, but I have to have some kind of movement in my tank.
  4. I know plenty of people that run canister filters like this. Shouldn't be a problem.
  5. I've never owned one over $175 so I can't speak to them, but the 3 other one's I owned were not worth the money I put into them. Like you, I also heard you get what you pay for and the expensive ones are worth it. Personally, I saved the cash, got a large sump/fuge and had more money to spend on my corals/fish.
  6. I have about 200gal of water volume, The sump is my old acrylic tank that I replaced with a glass tank.
  7. Same here. If I get lazy it's once a month, but usually once every two weeks I do about 30 -40 gallons.
  8. Here are my shots. Crappy FTS Clams love it skimmerless Sump (Cheato ball is about 3 feet long) I have fish, they are just camera shy.

  12. Nice. West Virginia going skimmerless. I'm sure someone can fit a redneck joke in there somehow...
  13. No good pics. All I have is the camera on my phone. I'll try to upload what I have when I get back to the house. As far as the skimmer debate goes, if you have the cash to spend, you will never go wrong with buying a skimmer. (A good one though). I choose not to run one because I have a large sump/refugium and didn't have the cash to get a good one. I've ran cheap ones in the past and never got anything out of them.
  14. I run a 120 without a skimmer. I'm lightly stocked on the SPS though. Runs everything fine. Skimmers are nice, but you can definitely get by without one if you run a good sized fuge.
  15. We got quite a bit out here in WV. Unofficially I would say 24 - 28 inches. I even managed to break my snow shovel.
  16. I have the same thing on my overflows. I just left it alone. I figured if it is growing there, it's not growing in my display and isn't a problem. If anything, it is consuming additional nitrates and phosphates. If you can see it from the display side, then I could see how it would be an issue.
  17. I'm interested to see how your pumps are working with the upgrade mod. I tried two different 1200s and they both rattled so much I had to take them out. It wasn't really that bad but the vibration was definitely noticable. Do you notice any noise with yours?
  18. I agree with some of these posts, and maybe this particular instance was a misunderstanding, but I have seen a couple of people buying large quantities of corals/equipment etc and reselling them. I just think that if you use this board to get good deals on livestock and equipment with intent to resell that's wrong and your status should be changed.
  19. I'm curious as to what his track record is. My tank is full of zoanthids I have bought off of him, and I have yet to have a problem.
  20. Just made a purchase from Atlantic Sea Farms. Bought quite a cleanup crew. You can't beat 100 nassarius snails for $7.50. I also bought a couple of corals. The ricordia arrived in great condition. The xenia doesn't look like it will make it, but xenia is notorious for bad shipping so I won't hold it against them. They have an arrive alive guarantee, so I'm sure they would work with me if I really wanted to. All in all, if you need a cleanup crew I highly recommend them.
  21. 27 + 10 + 8 = A lot cheaper than buying a fixture from "BRK" (or any other vendor) I'm not sure why we're bashing someone for taking on a DIY project. It looks like plenty of precautions were taken. As for aesthetics, just look at 90% of the DIY stands on Reef Central. I've had plenty of DIY projects not work at all, so I applaud you for getting it to work. I might not put it over my tank, but sometimes the project (not the result) is the most fun.
  22. I think people would have been more sympathetic to your views if you had voiced them differently. No store or proprietor is perfect and you may not like his sales tactics, but some of the things you posted are either untrue or grossly egsaturated. If everyone is tired of his sales and "antics", why is his store jam-packed on days he advertises? I'd be willing to bet his store is one of the most profitable in the area. If you had a bad experience, just post the facts about what happened and let the forum decide if we should do business there. FWIW I have bought quite a bit from Sonny and almost always leave happy. His sales are designed to get you in the door, but his service is what gets me to come back.
