  1. You shouldn't lose par switching to a blue+ lamp. It's rated pretty high on the par per bulb scale. Check out Grim Reefers testing at http://sites.google.com/site/tfivetesting/combinatio I've used his 6 bulb combo suggestion and you get great color and very reasonable par.
  2. What's really funny is when you get heated debates about whether or not that purple nurple fuzzy mango zoanthid is a "real" purple nurple fuzzy mango. If these names are arbitrary in the first place, how can anything be the "real" something.
  3. It was shown that not all corals from Japan are illegal. What else do you want? It seems like the initial post has been satisfied. Can we end this crap and close this thread now?
  4. Wow. That thing looks like the Stay-Puft marshmallow man after his fight with the ghostbusters..
  5. That's because you are ripping us off with your freebies, fragging up corals when you should let them sit in your store until you can sell the whole colony, and now selling illegal corals. I also have it on good authority that you are single-handedly responsible for global warming.
  6. I love it. Let the requisite monthly Sonny bashing begin. Maybe we should add that to our mission statement.
  7. Just for fun call them hornets and watch all the coral naming nerds come out to start the flame wars.
  8. Usually the sweeps are DWV fittings and aren't rated for pressure setups. That would be my guess.
  9. UltraLife Red Slime Remover http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4121 "Red Slime Remover does not contain algaecides or erythromycin succonate" I've used it before and it works like a charm. Never bothered any corals or fish.
  10. Just do it in a couple of coats. Put the first coat on thin as it will just smear around. Once that coat dries go over it with a thicker coat. Usually just two coats of the latex paint will cover it.
  11. Don't know if this is how it works, but I got to recommend Laurie's lionfish picture. Best shot I've seen in a while.
  12. Great white pipe dope. Works like a charm.
  13. Glad I went out today and got my coral fix! Can't wait to shovel close to 2 feet of snow again....
  14. Roll on black latex paint. Goes on quick and if you want it off, a razor blade and 5 minutes will do ya.
  15. http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemD...&ddid=79468 Somebody else grab it before I blow my coral budget for the month...
  16. That may be true, but there isn't exactly a reflective sheet of glass underneath the corals either.
  17. I've never liked the look of a bare bottom tank. Just doesn't look natural to me. I've always had a bed of around 2 - 3 inches. Looks good and seems to work fine.
  18. I can see where you might be coming from, but where you ran into issues is you copied my post from a particular vendors forum. This led everyone to believe you were attacking this vendor. (Which I still believe is so. Wrongly or not) It's perfectly ok to voice a different opinion. It's not ok (in my opinion) to bash a vendor for no real reason. That being said, I don't know of any vendors locally or elsewhere that wouldn't frag a colony on request. The nicer wild caught colonies are in high demand, and thus fetch a higher price. So is this how you see the responsibilities of the seller? ~ They should grab this new wild cut colony, let it sit in their tanks for months (which takes up valuable space for other corals), then once they deem it worthy of sale they frag it, let it heal for a couple of weeks to a month and then put it on sale. If this is the case, this is almost exactly what he is planning on doing with his coral farm.
  19. I fail to see how the posts (other than the last few where people got tired of the bs) added nothing of substance. You never responded to my post about where you got your numbers. You seemed to disregard any post that didn't agree with you.
  20. First step would be to make sure there is copper in the tank. You can get a test kit pretty cheap.
  21. I guess Sik that I'm just not seeing where your numbers are coming from. In his SPS tank the other day he had decent size colonies priced from $40 - 80. Obviously rare/hard to find corals are priced higher. You can get a standard acro colony for $60. Good luck getting an Aussie Echinata for that price. If your beef is with pricing in general, then I would expect to see posts like "How can they charge $2000 for a 2 eye frag of a chalice"
  22. Aquascaping is all personal preference. I like the way yours looks. A lot of people like the "minimalist" approach with less rock and a more open swimming space. The old standard of loading your tank full with rock seems to be on a downward trend. If you do want more rock, just for the filtration, you can always put it in the sump.
  23. Seeing as how this is the post that started it all, I took it to mean your intended purpose was to say he overcharged. I offered my experience as a counter-point. Lanman - I didn't get any pizza either. I left before it got there. Now I'm even more mad.
  24. I guess I'm just dumb and can't see how I'm being ripped off. During the social, I spent $100. I left with a fist sized milli colony, a 15 polyp zoa frag, another frag of blue clove polyps and a maxima clam. Wait, now that I add it up I can totally see it... Sonny, if you are reading this, I'm coming back for my cash!!!
