  1. Looks like an unusual color morph of the flagfin. could be a regional difference in these fish, similar to the regional differences that give coral beauty angels different colors. Doesn't look like a Goldflake at all, nor a hybrid.
  2. I just put a swissguard into a 300g tank. It was such an expensive fish and hard to get in such pristine health, that I wouldn't want to risk putting it with another one only to have a fight and possible death. If you want a pack of basslets, do a shoal of chalks or a group of assessors.
  3. Ha! Bulkhead wrenches are the worst piece of crap tool invented! Use real tools- deepwell truck sockets to hand tighten them, then a big pair of 4" jaw channelocks. That's how it's done in the real world. Bulkhead nuts break first, not the glass bottom.
  4. Consider your tank now a Bobbit biotope. Exploit it, and sell segments.
  5. I posted about a bobbit worm here on wamas with some pics years ago. It lived in my overflow with a green death star for several months before the death star ate it.
  6. I can say those lyrics in my best Dethklok voice...
  7. Marinepure leaches high levels of aluminum.
  8. Its not going to attack you. pick up the rock and see whats underneath. wear gloves if you need to. if it's in the hole, lure it out with crumbs of flesh.
  9. I've put several Glassholes overflow boxes in and they work pretty efficiently and quietly. Bombproof. Drilling the glass is cake as long as its not tempered, thicker glass much easier too. Dont worry about the rust. Free GFO. You could always take the rusty bolts out and plug the holes.
  10. If you catch it in one piece, I'll give you $10 for it.
  11. the floor works really well for torch fragging.... oops, I dropped it on the floor and now I have a dozen pieces... if you want more precise frags, you can squeeze the stalks together carefully so you dont cut your fingers and they will break at the intersections. you'll want to glue the bottoms somewhat quickly so that water doesn't intrude up the stalk and into the base of the polyp.
  12. I'd start at 50 and ramp up 5% a week till you get to 75/80%
  13. do yourself a favor now and ditch the green palys. they'll easily overgrow all the zoas and theyre toxic too
  14. Measure the output of your existing lights with a par meter, make a chart, then install the leds and use the par meter to determine the intensity by matching the existing values.
  15. We used to use them but found that they can cause backpressure issues with the foam head on the CS1 skimmers. Now they are dialed in to be emptied every 2 weeks.
  16. WYE check valves tend to have clogging issues in my experience. Use a Clear True Double Union Check Valve instead. They are easily cleaned and serviceable and sold by BRS. Gate valves are better than ball valves simply because they offer low torque and better flow characteristics.
  17. There's no need to order Schedule 80 parts as its overkill. S80 is typically used in heavy traffic areas where pieces might get bumped or kicked. I'm assuming most of this will be under cabinet, so Sched 40 should be fine.
  18. This is a good opportunity for the right person and it's reasonably possible to earn $35-$60k.
  19. My advice is to appreciate them in nature or at a public aquarium where they will have professional care. There's a reason why they aren't regularly collected and sold. The only way to "take the extra care" in collection is to know the diver or collect it yourself. Holding facilities aren't exactly fish friendly and this is most likely where the most stressors occur in the chain of custody from the sea to the home aquarium.
