  1. So my power went out Sunday about 3:30pm. I was on my way home when the storm came upon me and the traffic lights started going off... Panicked I called my wife to tell her to pull my loc lines out of the display to stop the ensuing flood from the sump ( gotta get check valves). Only lost about 5 gallons! My power was out for 27 hours total! After about 20 hours with no power I started to experience loss of life Rip Domino Damsel (btw u & me I was ready to trade him) Not sure about my anemone...it has shrank soooo small... Did anyone else suffer? How did you deal?
  2. So I cannot say enough about Marvin and his staff at Atlantis in Richmond! The Store was clean...I MEAN CLEAN!!! The water was crystal clear and the 650 gallon display was like aquatic porn...I was lusting and thinking I may need a new house to get something like this. Everyone was knowledgeable and just down right friendly (Just met them for the first time but felt like I knew them for years!) Prices were quite reasonable for a brick and mortar store and beat a few of the LFS I usually shop. On top of the prices being reasonable he gave me a 10% discount for being a WAMAS member! I looked at every tank in the store and all the fish looked well cared for and healthy. If you are able to make the trip to Richmond you must shop at ATLANTIS!!! Atlantis, Atlantis, Atlantis
  3. Wow! Sex, Drugs and Oil Companies...this just goes to show you nothing you can make up actually compares to Real Life! I want to laugh at the statement "sleep or high at the wheel" but, it's not funny when your sitting in the back seat of the vehicle they are driving.
  4. Wow...This salt is kind of pricey If you get some you start a thread and review it for us.
  5. Check with "Paul b". Paul gives the following steps for base rock... Go with a PVC skeleton wrapped in screen lined with concrete and rolled in black sand...it's almost too easy. We are going to try a couple of different techniques to build base rock in June and I'll be posting pics as we go along.
  6. Yeah I will take it...thanks!
  7. Thank you all for your replies! I am going to give it a try in about 2 weeks and I'll take pictures and post...
  8. Hey all, I am considering building my own base rock. Few questions: -Has anyone in the club actually been successful with building your own base rock? -What are your suggestion? -How were you successful? -What are some pitfalls to steer away from? -Is it as easy as it looks on the internet? Thanks
  9. That's interesting. I wonder what he was doing all that time...he has such an appetite, I'm surprised he didn't starve to death. That's too funny all I know is if anyone is going to on vaca' it better be me!
  10. So, I picked up a "hyper active with a touch of OCD" (my personal diagnosis) Christmas Wrasse a couple of months ago (thanks dtfleming) and he quickly became the star of the tank. The Wrasse constantly swims at all levels of the tank and goes to bed every evening at the same time regardless of if the lights are on or off or if it is feeding time! I added some other fish over the next couple of months and the wrasse disappeared. Knowing their capacity to Jump to their deaths I searched around to make sure he hadn't made a break for the floor. Nope, just gone! The Wrasse is not the first fish that I have had to vanish from the tank but, he was the largest at nearly 6 inches. I just figured "The Circle of Life" got him...I've had one clownfish to be eaten by his anemone and I had a sea star take out a couple of gobies....so....I figured he was gone. After of wrasseless week, he just showed back up! What the ...where did you go and what were you doing for a week? Is that common?
  11. How do I acclimate corals to new bulbs? Does the Radium come in a double end bulb...I've only seen the single?
  12. I am replacing the bulbs on my tank and I am looking at the Phoenix 250W 14,000K. What's your opinion of this bulb? What are your recommendations? Tank has several anemones (Carpet, Bubble..etc), mushrooms and few large leather corals? I do not run any actinic lights and I am looking for a bulb that can provide everything.
  13. I have a Christmas Wrasse that swims laps around my tank and moves at all different depths...super fast too...
  14. Never ceases to amaze me! How do they know where to go? Nice!
  15. I hate micro bubbles! Looks like its snowing in my tank...
  16. You are both are correct! This (Slightly) Blue Hadonni Carpet is always hungry! Has never turned down any food! Thanks for the insight, I had been holding back on food a little. I'll increase the silver sides!
  17. So after adding more rocks and the tank has cycled...It's time to add some life! Here we go... After Prima my large Clown took half of my Gold & Maroon's tail it was time to swap her out. (what can I say I love the Redskins) I swapped out the large Clarkii for a pair of smaller ones...way less drama
  18. So I thought it's time to add a few more Pics and updates. This is a little out of order so bare with me... Shots of the tank cycling...Bye bye White sand hello Diatoms... Boo... Yucky cycle...where are the snails...send in the snails!
  19. Wow! I'm impressed, your pictures are really good!
  20. Also West Marine (boat store) [601 S Patrick St, Alexandria, VA 22314-4018 PHONE: 703-549-7020] had a ton of it in various colors and sizes. They actually sell bulk heads and joints that are get this "Made for Saltwater"! Go figure.
  21. Yeah that shroom was HUGE! I would think with a little TLC he would be alright...
  22. Very Nice! What a great use of time
  23. I added a pair of maroon clowns and two small bubble tip anemones to the tank. The other clown (which Roozen's advertised as a Sebae, but I think it may be a banded clown or a Clarkii) was none too happy about the new addition and decided to chase the other female clear out of the tank. After about a day of harassment and a complete break down & reassembly of the rock structures, I think the maroons may have a chance...stay tuned...
  24. Thanks Brian! Do you believe that the answer to pollution is dilution? (crossing fingers) I would hate to have to uproot my sand in an effort to remove the stupid play sand...
  25. Yeah the sand is starting to get a little "boom" to it, but the clean up crew will be taking care of that shortly (hopefully). I think the dark layer that you saw was just a lack of light. The Sand bed is btw 5 and 6 inches. I did put 25 lbs of play sand into the tank and was too lazy to take it out before I added the other 370lbs of sand but I don't think that you can see that on these pics. I will try and get the anemone to close up this evening and get some pics of the stalk.
