Hey, I know that you said you are going to continue to use the 400w MHs, I am interested in the pro's and con's that helped you decide to stay with MHs versus LEDs. I decided to go with Radions because of total cost of ownership (MH bulb replacement, power consumption of the lights, fans and chiller, the detailed 24 hour light control & coolness factor) Thanks!

Welcome to the wonderful world of WAMAS and Salt, My Goodness, that set up sounds really interesting! We most definitely need to see some pictures. "How about Chaetomorpha Algae? Chaetomorpha Macro Algae, Chaeto, pronounced "kay-toe", is a great way to naturally turn the nitrogenous compounds of your tank into plant food!!! Chaetomorpha Algae removes both phosphates and nitrates from the water. To increase the amount of nutrients this algae exports, use moderate to high lighting and keep it in an area of high water flow. It should ideally be tumbled in an algae filter." (This information was taken from Aquacon but I am sure that a bunch of members have some in their tanks and would be willing to share.) You could also buy some from one of the Local Fish Stores (LFS) or sponsors here! ***Anyway my advice is a hefty amount of cheto in a refuge/sump, maybe a remote deep sand bed, mangroves and an algae scrubber.*** Any cheto, algae scrubber or mangrove plants should "eat" nitrate! Crazy oarfish

I agree with what you said. Check your tank parameters (don't forget calcium)and what has changed lately? Have you increased your light cycle, new bulbs perhaps? Are you using tap water or RO/DI? If RO/DI have you changed your media lately? Fairfax Water uses chlorine for disinfection purposes, which can be harmful to fish if not dechlorinated prior to placing fish in it. Fairfax Water utilizes two types of chlorine, free chlorine and chloramines (chlorine and ammonia mixture). Chloramines are normally used July - March, and free chlorine is generally used April - June. Free chlorine and chloramine dechlorination is performed differently. Chemical additives with directions for dechlorinating either free chlorine or chloramine from water for use in fish tanks or ponds are available at pet/fish supply stores. (This is taken from the Fairfax water website) I think I saw in another post that RO/DI may need a different media for chloramine versus free chlorine... Check out this site: http://www.thefilterguys.biz/chloramine_filters.htm It explains that we should be using a carbon filter to deal with chloramine before it gets to our RO/DI filter. It also says that chloramine will break down carbon quickly, so we will have to remember that when we are using tap water with this as an additive. Hope that was answer was not to long.

Oh my! That is a pretty penny for 150 gallons. Looks like Roscoe's Petco suggestion actually comes out cheaper at 150 gallons for $375 delivered curbside. Pretty much, but this has inspired a conversation between me and Upper Level Management! She has stated that someone needs to invent a way to change the water automatically without taking up "Quality Family Time"! (Enters Seavisions Dialyseas 2)

+1 I actually bought a 275g Tote and cannot get it to the tank room without removing the door frame, deep sink and drywall! Realistically, I can't even get it into my basement (narrow stairwell) and Upper Level Management (AKA the wife) said that I could not leave it in the kitchen (her nerve) Eventually, I plan to move it under my front porch...but I digress... What do you think would be a good price to pay per gallon of high quality reef ph balanced H20 with delivery and water change in the District of Columbia?

I know if the price was right I would have bought some this time! I have replaced 25g and I have 30g of freshwater that I am getting ready to mix. By Sunday evening I will have made an additional 30 - 40g of freshwater that I will have to mix. Wife, school, kids, work and a bunch of other things is taking up my time. Paying a bit for high quality water delivered w/ a water change is worth keeping a few of my hours for myself. I can make more money but time is the most important commodity, I never seem to have enough of that!

No not like Deer Park or some company like that. They sale "Real Ocean Water" boxed up on the net and they will deliver it via UPS. The water is harvested by Catalina. I was looking for a local company that mixed, tested and delivered saltwater (or harvested & filtered ocean water)! Kind of how a pool company would mix and fill your swimming pool with chlorinated water so you don't have to.

I'm actually pretty surprised that no one else has looked into either utilizing this type of service or stepped up and began offering this type service...(hmmm)
