  1. I want to thank the many Wamas and Cmas members and local fish stores that helped me get this tank up and running. I built the tank stand myself, I got the wood cut at Home Depot to the lengths I needed and just put it together like IKEA furniture .
  2. I picked up a gate valve from BRK and I plan on doing the gate valve mod to my CS6-1. I checked out Euroreef's pdf on the gate valve mod and it looks like you got it perfect, down to the t lining up with the seem on the neck of the skimmer. I still have to get the t, and some extra PVC, I think 1.5" is the only size I don't have. The gate valve is 1.5" and slips over the outlet of my skimmer. I will try to get some pics once I get the materials.
  3. If you are talking about frags from Chris...I could never get my frags to get the polyp extension they had in his tank, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. He must sprinkle some kind of magic dust on his tank or something
  4. Interceptor is the treatment, some say you should dose 3 times spacing the treatments a week apart. I only dosed once as a couple of club members suggested that was all that was needed. I dosed my tank for 6 hours no skimming or carbon. I took out as many inverts as I could find and moved them to another tank, I missed a few, around 8 or 9 and the interceptor did kill some of them, I would say 4 or 5 of the ones I missed, I noticed they turned up shell up a day or two later.
  5. you have to look very closely for the red bugs, they are very tiny. They are seen on lighter colored acro's easily. You just have to look real close, a magnifying glass helps.
  6. that thing looks so creepy, yet I can't look away.
  7. Fish with see through head Strange Fish Has See-Through Head bizarre deep-water fish called the barreleye has a transparent head and tubular eyes. Since the fish's discovery in 1939, biologists have known the eyes were very good at collecting light. But their shape seemed to leave the fish with tunnel vision. Now scientists say the eyes rotate, allowing the barreleye to see directly forward or look upward through its transparent head. The barreleye (Macropinna microstoma) is adapted for life in a pitch-black environment of the deep sea, where sunlight does not reach. They use their ultra-sensitive tubular eyes to search for the faint silhouettes of prey overhead. Barreleyes, just a few inches long, are thought to eat small fishes and jellyfish. The green pigments in their eyes may filter out sunlight coming directly from the sea surface, helping the barreleye spot the bioluminescent glow of jellies or other animals directly overhead. When it spots prey (such as a drifting jelly), a barreleye rotates its eyes forward and swims upward, in feeding mode.
  8. I have been using ReefChoice kalk and carbon for a little over 8 months now, not only are the products great but the price is right as well, I got a gallon of kalk for under $12. Dave is a good guy to sit and talk tank with, if you have any questions about carbon or kalk he will give you very good and detailed advice, his customer service is exceptional. If you get a chance, I would suggest trying some of Dave's products, or simply visit his website to see what he has to offer....ffaquatics

  10. I normally get this white precipitation on the glass, kind of looks like snot
  11. I normally mix my salt in an unused aqaurium, but I have a powerhead and heater already going before I add any salt and I never get anything left over.
  12. Just wondering, thanks for the reply Jason.
  13. The first test kit I was using was over a year old, it was not expired when I purchased it, but it sat around my house for nearly a year. I guess I am asking does the kits go bad over a period of time?
  14. I have been using the API test kits to keep track of my levels. I normally test once a week and have been using a kit I have had about a year. I purchased a new kit because I ran out of the calcium portion. I decided to test all my levels with the old kit and compare it with the new kit and found the results a little scary. For the past 2 months I have been showing close to 40 PPM nitrates using the old kit however all my corals seemed fine. I tested with the new kit a few minutes after the first test and got a result of 0 PPM. For the past 2 weeks my calcium reading has been on the low side (380) even though I dose kalkwasser in my top off water daily, so I have been adding b-ionic calcium for the past week to bring it up. Well to my surprise when I tested yesterday with the new kit my calcium was at 480. So it appear that the API test go bad after sitting for a period of time. I don't have a clue how long it sat on the store shelf before I purchased it, but I will be sure to pay closer attention to such details. I would like to know how long you should keep a test kit before replacing with a fresh kit.
