  1. Maureen, awesome idea! JM, your tank is coming along A#1 sir!! Got alot done since I left! Give me a call tomorrow when your free, might have a surprise for you!
  2. Awesome sir!!! Excellent to see folks staying in ONE location long enough to see their rewards come to fruition! CONGRATS!
  3. Boret, Awesome setup job so far! Love your ideas on the lighting! IMO: I would recommend the 250w MH 10k with 2 x 24" T5 Daylight Bulbs in the back and 2 x 24" T5 Actinic+ on the front. Put the Lumenarc setup with the bulb 10" from the waterline with an AIRDUCT to draw out the air around it through your back wall and out of the room. 2 x 4" Fans, one blowing just below the T5 Daylight bulbs. Attach the back T5 to the side walls with reflectors pointing down to the tank and put the 2 front T5 on hangers so you can raise/move them out of the way for maintenance? Agree, Mine is 42" at the base and top of water line is equal to my eyes height! No bending to enjoy a great job!! Looking forward to the tanktour!!!
  4. Good choice! I recommend putting down rubber bottom runner rugs that you can p/u by the foot at HD! Will protect under the stand, make quieter and provides some protection from drips! Cheap insurance.
  5. Karl, Your going to hear some griping on this issue! I believe they only feed on live ones, not cut pieces! I purchased one last winter and let it feed on my small starfish in my 30g frag tank and it took them about 2 months to about wipe out what was in the tank! I didn't move it to a new tank fast enough and IMO, when the population dropped down below substaining it, it died!
  6. Sounds good! Small tank with a big sump will work great for you! Be careful if your planning on drilling a hole for an overflow in your 10g tank, the glass on small tanks I believe if I'm right is not tempered or is tempered and can break VERY easily! But if you do an overflow with bulkhead or HOB overflow, should work great! Keep us posted on pics!
  7. Ebay Units for about that much, need to keep an eye out for deals: Ebay search under RO/DI units Kind you might look for basic needs: Simple but works! Noticed several units on sale lately in FOR SALE SECTION with members leaving the group. Others might have more recommendations, there are alot of types.
  8. Craig, Great to see you back online! If you can't find LFS to serve you, keep in mind our WAMAS08LIVE 15% off discount online at BZA! You still pay the $39.95 s/h cost, but discount will help! Where are you in NC? I'm heading to OBX Hatteras Is next weekend and possibly visiting my daughter in Jacksonville NC soon too? ....oh, don't forget about SALT CREEP!! Hope to see you when you come back in town? Howard
  9. MrT welcome to our site! First of all, be honest with yourself on your time committment to taking care of the tank and your resources (Both financially and room wise) to take care of it! Don't get me wrong, I don't want you not to do with it, but try to work with your means and stay with it and you'll be happier for it for now! Second, you mentioned "three tanks totaling well over a hundred gallons", so you have a tank that is more than the 10g tank your showing. In Saltwater tanks, more is better in that with more water, errors are slower and easier to over come then a 10g tank setup. I know, I had a 10g tank at my office and was a pain to keep up with it being that it was so small you had to do more things to it more often, just in smaller scale! So that being said, consider how you plan on answering the following steps: #1 Water: Will you be using the recommended RO/DI setup that can be had for about $150 online? OR, purchasing bottles of RO/DI water from LFS OR possibly using tap water with Amquel (least recommended way) to keep your water free from Phosphates, minerals, Cholrine, etc? #2 Cleaning the water, Best way is a Skimmer System (What type?) Depending on the size of the tank, could be Hang on the Back, Sump setup with in water or out skimmer? #3 Live rock, I know this was your initial question, but look at the first "first" before you worry about the way it looks. BTW, The first $20 you spend will be for the membership and then you'll get a chance to see all the deals going on around here, "Better hide your wallet!!!"
  10. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with one of our better if not best LFS in the area! BTW, Could someone edit his title a bit? Family oriented website please!
  11. Dave had some great points! IMO: 1. There was no seal coat applied. The guy is coming out tonight to put it on. After he sprays the area and its drys for a day, see if he could leave some in a spray bottle and spray the seems again in the immediate area where the tank will be? Just spray the cracks, wait about an hour and wipe with a rag and "wet" spots on the tile. Should do it! 2. Tile is ceramic, 12" by 12", great! 3. Subfloor is concerte. I am not sure about flex. He did use a sander to level the concrete in some areas. Even better, will be no flex unless its less than 4" thick, which for sub-floors its probably about 6"? 4. Thinset was used. ready to go after IMO a second coat of sealer in tank area!
  12. tile setups in 24hrs, once dry its dry and ready to go! I would recommend at 2x seal coat if he has not already! You can pick it up at HD, NOT CHEAP, about $30 for a small spray bottle, but wouldn't hurt! If your looking to putting down a tank on tile, off course there are no legs right? Just flat base boards? I would recommend a rubber base piece of carpet for under the whole stand to keep water spots later when you move. I used it on my last 2 tanks and worked great in case you move!
  13. With the cost of Refractometers running around $50 or less, best to go that way. Bottom line, it works!
  14. Forrest, Your readings where the exception and not the rule with the Deep6, I had one that read alot like Bob's! When we did a GB for Refractometers a while ago, everyone posted what their hydrometers read when they got their units and ALL where off, most by a couple of units!
  15. Thanks Moga! BTW, 78 post, dude join the club!
  16. WARNING - WARNING - WARNING Doing this again could cause a BIG SALE for your spouse!!! Forrest, Please promise us you will NEVER reach into a tank to pull out an electrical item again???
  17. Came with the kit, bought 2 of them a while ago, proabably earlier versions that was on the ReefChili website I believe! Sounds like a rattle trap!! HEADLINES: NEVER USED MJ KIT FOR SALE! GET THEM WHILE THERE HOT!!!

    90g tank flow

    jpg
  19. I've setup and used the MJ1200 mod and the dang thing was noisy as H377!!! I went ahead and got the MJ900, but haven't tried it yet and debating seriously if I want too now! I'm leaning towards (2) Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Pump 6045 1189gph: TZ1213 $90.19 on each corner blowing in different directions, Seio on back (right) wall blowing to front left corner, putting a MJ about 1/2 way down tank in rear right blowing through rocks and upgrading 1" SS flow with bigger return using the MAG24. See any issues? See attachment
  20. I currently don't have enough movement in my tank and looking to upgrade soon! Currently I have my 1" SeaSwirl hooked up to my MAG18, but alot of flow is being cut off with Ball Valves distributed to my UV Sterilizer, GreySeas Media Reactor and Frag tanks 1" SS. So not alot of flow there! I'm getting soon Mohsin's MAG24 and plan to upgrade there to increase flow more to both tanks. Inside the tank and this is where I want to add flow, I have (2) MJ1200 (225gph) and (1) Tunze Nano 6025 (660gph) with (1) Seio M1500. The Seio works great but I need to swap ends with it currently on the front of my Acrylic Tank and has grooved the panes, PLUS the 1500gph just sucked against the in-take my CopperBand! PLAN A: #1 Take out the (2) MJ #2 Move Seio to back wall of tank #3 Add either one of the MJ or (1) Koralia 2 to be placed about 1/2 way down the tank BEHIND the rocks to push more flow through the rocks. #4 Add with Magnetic either a Koralia 3/4 or Tunze 6045 to opposite corners to increase tank flow. Suggestions? Possible ordering items from Marine Depot GB, BUT PLEASE, VENDORS please feel free to PM if you have a great price locally for any of these items? Marine Depot List: Hydor Koralia 2 Circulation Pump/Powerhead UL 600 gph: HD19201 $33.69 Hydor Koralia 3 Circulation Pump/Powerhead UL 850 gph: HD19301 $37.49 Hydor Koralia 4 Circulation Pump/Powerhead UL 1200 gph HD19401: $44.99 Taam Seio M1500 Super Flow Pump/Powerhead 1500gph: TA3717 $69.99 Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Pump 6045 1189gph: TZ1213 $90.19 Tunze Turbelle NanoStream Pump 6025 660gph: TZ1211y $69.27 PLAN B: Continue to fight my slow spots allowing Cyanobacteria to try to take over my tank and hinger my SPS growth! -Don't want plan b! BTW, I tried the MJ1200 Mods and shot blasted my tank and pushed all the sand away, so 2200gph will not work either!
  21. Your correct, It was a CB Butterflyfish! Unfortunately, no more!
  22. Yesterday morning woke to see my CB stuck to the Seio Powerhead in my tank! UGH!!!! Was a great fish that was pretty cool to watch! Noticed it feed throughout the night on pods! Will be posting updated pics soon!
  23. Awesome Read!!!! Way to cool!
  24. Web guys, Is there a way to remove this feature?? I for one would be pi$$ed if I bid a higher bid and 9:00 and realizing I wanted to bump, but the bump came in at 9:01 and not only came in late for BAD bid, but bumped out my GOOD Bid as well. Can we removed this feature from AUCTIONs? If not from the whole program???
  25. Way to go! looking great!
