Here is a good resource that copps turned me on to: http://www.amazon.com/Marine-Angelfishes-J...TF8&s=books Best book on angels that I have ever read.
-
You will get various opinions. Some people say yes, some say no. They are one of the more dificult angels to keep in my opinion. Even if you can get them to eat at a store, some will not eat once home, especially if you have aggressive or lots of other fish. Copps, linked totm, told me that as soon as he added his, it went right after some zo's. He has success in large part because he has worked at LFS growing up, and has done a lot of personal studies on care of angels so to just try to mimic him and add the fish, it probably will not work. IMO, copps is far above average in his husbandry skills than most. Don't mean to sound negative, but you best do a lot of research before you put your money down.

I'll just comment on internal pumps and having 2 mags fail on me. One was on return, one was on a skimmer. Both failed after about 1.5 yrs service or less. They are a fair pump for the money, but most only last about a year before they start to see problems of not starting after a power out period. Even people who clean ever 6 months, have had problems. I know of at least 10 members who have had them not restart. I went external on new system. Very rarely do you ever hear of a external pump not restarting. I have used gen-x for for 5 years and never failed and I never clean it. They are a bit loud. Some others like sequence, panworld or blueline also good. If you can drill your sump, I would go external. Just my .02 & you can ask dhoch about his mag failing while he was at macna-houston this year. I would go external, you'll sleep better when your out of town for a weekend.

Dave, Pink birds nest from me would originally came from vareefman.
-
I use turkey baster at least twice a week., not to jump in on dave's methods. Just my choice and helps my tank.
-
WOW Dave! I think you are getting some secret additive for your tank from lab at your current job. Thanks for sharing. I passed on your pulsing sinularia (sp?) to howard that I got from you. I'm sure I have a few others from you, just have to noodle in my head which ones they are. If anyone got some purple monti. cap, green w/ blue tip stag or a tan with blue tip acro at the meeting they were from me. Stag origin is from Reefmon; monti cap was from vareefman and acro was aquariausa.

Over 100 people attended the frag workshop today. Over 300 frags of acros, lps, softies, zo's were handed out to the those who attended. Justin's talk was awesome and it was cool to see him use the tile saw and dremmel to cut up acan's, galaxia, encrusting monti. and others. Special thanks to all the officers & Dave S. who did their part to put on another successful meeting. I also want to thank Michael Gerdes, YBnormal, Beltwaybandit, Raf, dandy and all the other members who helped cut up and bag corals for the members. Thanks to all those that donated corals & water Thanks to Scott & Oceanflo for coming down to demo their maxi-jet mod kits. Those that I missed, thank you for the time you volunteered! -

Gatortailale replied to Gatortailale's topic in Club News
So what should you expect from the meeting. While here is a sample of a Q & A on the frag workshop portion: We will have corals from those listed above & several members have volunteered to donated some of their own corals as well. Justin, Doug, Dave H. and WAMAS past President Michael Gerdes are among those who will lead fragging demos. We will have 1-2 dremmels there and maybe a tile saw too. We will have a limited supplied of frag plugs and disks, fishing line, glue for your use. You can also take the fresh cut frags home with you and mount in your tank. -

Welcome to WAMAS! Look forward to learning from you and hopefully I can offer up some useful advice to you in return. This last year WAMAS has been blessed with the support of all the LFS, especially F&R and BRK. -
Thanks to all who have volunteered so far & to any more who want to bring some. All, the meeting will only be as good as we make it. If you want healthy corals and a successful meeting, please try to donate some water, corals to frag, supplies, etc. If you donate a coral for fragging & want a piece back, please let us know / make sure you get a piece. Those who claim new pieces from workshop, please be respectful to donor and let them have first pick of a frag if they donate a large coral to be cut up. Justin, Doug, Dave H. and WAMAS past President Michael Gerdes are among those who will lead fragging demos. We will have 1-2 dremmels there and maybe a tile saw too. We will have a limited supplied of frag plugs and disks, fishing line, glue. Hope everyone has fun and can go home with a few new corals for their tank.

WAMAS Fall Meeting Oct 14, 2006 - Justin Credabel
Gatortailale replied to Gatortailale's topic in Club News
Ice Cap just confirmed they are sending two gift certificates - good for your choice of a ballast or T5 setup (not sure what exactly that means on size of T-5 setup) Chris at Ice Cap said he would work with WAMAS & the winner to get them a product they want. Many thanks to Ice Cap, and all our sponsors for their support! -
See here for sample of MH bulbs and spectrum. Note, may not list all bulbs on market, but good start. Try hellolights for other source http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_lighti...lbs.asp?CartId= See here for sanjay's graphs and you can compare 250 10 k to others http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/ What brand of ballast are you using or going to use? IMO in the 250w ballast, burning anything over 10k last I checked, amounts to waste. We know that corals can use light from almost all visible spectrum. When you go to 14 or 20k, the bulb is designed to do 1 thing, put out that big blue spike, but not much other light in other spectrums. Thus, you use same electric to get 1 blue spike. You would be better off imo to go with 10k's and add vho actinics - much better than t5 to give you the blue look.

No problem. Glad to help. Answering questions here is no diff. than if I answer on RC or other boards. I'm willing to help anyone - even if they are just a bb member of this forum. The ultimate goal is health & proper care for our tanks. I would rather offer the advice and see wolfman's tank survive and be healthy than not advise and see him commit a maintenance act that would harm the helth of his tank. IMO, he is better off to do as I described above. Just my opinion. Hope it helps.

Please do not list stuff for sale here unless you are breaking down your tank and moving from the area. See this post for rules regarding selling in general discussion. http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1465
