Global warming - what to think ???

What about Solar, Wind and Hydroelectric? Are you telling me the sky is falling? Guess you mean all of the Major sources of energy will eventually run out. Back to the debate. -
$1995 was sent by WAMAS - via the auction donors - to Waikiki Aquarium. See attached. {no idea why it says July 18, 2006 - other than staff who sent form letter forgot to update date] Waikiki.pdf.pdf

I just switched on Jan 25, 2007 to 14 K 400w Ushio's. Bulbs been running almost 100 hours over 14 day period. On 400w Blueline ballast using Apogee Quantum Meter model QMSS; bulbs 8 inches off water; * with 2 x 110w VHO running on Ice cap ballast [i know should of turned off VHO's - but ballasts just turned off for day]; MH & VHO bul;bs housed inside cool touch lighting 72" hood. *1005 -Surface with white sensor just out of water * 803 - sensor just under water * 701 - 1 inch under water * 410 - 6 inches under water * 325 - 12 inches under water surface * 200 - 24 inches under water [also the oceanic center brace b/w bulb & sensor for this reading - only spot on tank I could get clear reading at bottom] It will be interesting to see what these bulbs test out on Sanjay's big test grid. Here is what I got with old XM's that I charted before switch (again with VHO's on). Over 100 par better at each test spot. WOW. * 580 - just below water * 285 - 6 inches under water * 170 - 12 inches * 126 - 24 inches below [also the oceanic center brace b/w bulb & sensor for this reading - only spot on tank I could get clear reading at bottom] In just 14 days most of my corals are starting to show a lot more blue and / or purple tips and pink birds nest is getting a better pink color. Red mili looks better as well to me. So far I'm loving the bulbs. I think on prior page I answered about emperor - doesn't touch SPS. Only went after open brain. Idol- so far so good. I got it on around Jan 21-23, 2006 from liveaquaria. Purple tang or one of the tangs cuts Idols hair (streamer) ever week or 2. - issues with that many fish - water quality NO problem so far since I rune a Deltec 702 and try to do weekly to by-weekly 35g changes. I also try to run carbon and use a 40w UV light system. - Other downside with that many fish is most clams I try don't do well cause of all the fish activity - fish swims over clam and it retracts from shadow. So far I have had a squamosa in there for over 6 months and the spot it's at seems to be fine. Just added Gigas I got at scales and it's ok so far, flame & potters have picked on it few times when I was watching tank last night. Got fingers crossed they will leave it alone. - thinking I may want to try to catch a yellow or two in near future.

Automated method to balanced Alk&Calcium ratio?
Gatortailale replied to kingfish's topic in General Discussion
if you have a week or more before you go: 1) test alk and calcium levels. 2) don't add any trace additives 3) wait few days 4) test levels again. - figure out consumption Or look at what your current daily or weekly dosing is that keeps you at your balanced levels. If you aren't dosing much, you will probably be fine for a week. If you are dosing a lot daily or every few days, well then you may want to look at other options noted above or find neighbor or member in area who is willing to drop by 1-2 times to add a 2-part like b-ionic or other stuff that is simple to dose. -

Doesn't look very large of an order to me. [but this is for a 40 g tank and I'm used to buying cleanup for a 200g tank] It will be interesting to see how the CB shrimp, sally's, & 5 mithrix get along in a 40g tank. Problem with internet shopping - sounds like you bought extra stuff just to get the shipping discount. frequency of water changes, the ability of your skimmer to remove waste, quality of make-up water, size of tank, amount of liverock ect. is a better guage than the old freshwater scale of inch of fish per gallon; at least in my opinion.

1) Pomacanthus imperator - As described in Marine Angelfishes book - my imperator will thump one of its ribs against the air bladder. I think the fish is talking to me and telling me he wants food. 2) Synchiropus splendidus (Green Mandarin) - I have had a female sine Dec. 2003. Last weekend I picked up a male from a LFS. Tonight about 30 minutes after actinics off and with just the LED moonlights running they were doing their mating dance. Then after watching a bit, they rose toward the surface together and I could see the sperm ring shoot out from the male. 3) Hydnophora grandis - Watching my coral shoot out a spiderweb like sweeper to claim more space in the tank [from 2003] Now thining I may have to look into getting another juv. flame to go with one I have - if only copps were in town to help sex the one flame I have. Anyway- post up cool / neat things you have observed in your tank.

There is always risk buying online since most of time you don't get to see what you buy - unless you do the what you see what you get fish or corals - most if not all e-tailers of snails don't show you the actual snails. There are some good local stores that interact with the club and some offer discounts to members. See post in group buy today for sample of someone wanting to buy snails online and not knowing what they are/were doing - which variety to buy. Again, most local stores stock the good kinds and can give you advice. If you can't find a price your looking for from locals (remember the local store takes most if not all risk of loss of DOA snails since they only sell you the live ones where online, some my die in shipping & risk of loss is on you). Here are a few e-tailers - reeftopia.com and bluezooaquatics. my .02

Welcome to wamas forums. Per liveaquariua -Max. Size In Aquarium: Up to 6" http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di....cfm?pCatId=107 I would say your size while medium, they probably are still in a juv. stage. As long as they play nice in same tank, give them 6+ months and you will have a pair. You can use our SEARCH feature to see what has been discussed before - such as this topic http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?show...&hl=pairing or this one http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?show...&hl=pairing We have a few members who attempt to raise clowns so they can offer more than me. But maroon's get on the large size for clowns. Hope it helps

Is there such a thing as too much flow for a return?
Gatortailale replied to a topic in General Discussion
I would look at the sequence snapper pump. BRK is regional distributor of sequence pumps. I have the dart and it's silent. Snapper is same motor, just smaller impeller which draws less electric and pushes less water which = possible fit for a return pump. http://www.reeflopumps.com/ -
Sorry, no photo updates - just wanted to say that I have had my Idol for 1 year and 2 days. - damage done to tank * Idol at Sarcophyton in half (I have one tiny piece that survived and is growing in stock tank. * Idol at green finger leather.
