  1. No, he got the wood for the stand before he found out that I could get it for him. If you saw his large dining room table, that wood came from me.
  2. The 8 foot long Maxspect tank was awesome looking. I've never had lookdown fish before but I think my next big tank will have to have some of those in it.
  3. I might be able to help you but it might be a couple months before I get back to WV and run our families small saw mill. Depends on how much of a hurry you are in. I got Fazio some really nice walnut that was 8' x 15" x 2". He made a really nice dining room table out of it. Shot him a PM as he might have some boards left over.
  4. Welcome back to the hobby. Were you on WAMAS before?
  5. A good fresh water rinse is all I would do. I'm not sure why a bake would help.
  6. Just make sure he is safe from pump intakes. I would leave him in the sump for a week or two until the others are settled in.
  7. I see you talking to Justin on the escalator, so why were you not listening to Copps?
  8. I don't know which design you have so I have to ask, are there holes to let water flow in and out of the acclimation box? If there is water exchanging then it can stay in there for weeks if it is not too small for the fish. If it is sealed then I would make sure to change the water out several times a day. What are your plans for the anthias? In a group of anthias you will always have dominate males and larger females keeping the hierarchy of the group in place.
  9. Here is a picture of the crowd waiting to get in Friday morning.
  10. I had fun and really enjoyed seeing old friends and making some new ones. A big thanks to all the people that helped pull it off and a bigger thank you to those that helped me as security/badge checkers.
  11. ^ That's a great idea. Engineer gobies can also be kept in nice groups as they are very social fish.
  12. Good luck with this experiment. I bet the owner of the fish below thought the same thing. I'll just feed it really well, every day, and it will leave my goby alone. These things will eat all they can and even if fed daily they will still go after an easy meal. The only thing going for the mandarin is that the eel might see it as a poisonous fish and leave it alone.
  13. I agree, not worth the risk to me. I had a snowflake take out a large purple tang once, right in front of me during feeding time.
  14. All of the snowflakes I've had would chase smaller fish like wrasses and clowns. I think a slow mandarin would be a meal.
  15. I had several of the cat and bamboo sharks in my 600g tank. They need fine sand and a large filter/skimmer. They can't be trusted with smaller fish like wrasses and anthias. The nice thing about them is they don't need frequent feedings so you can go away for short vacations and not worry about feedings.
  16. The Vertex Omega and others just seem overpriced compared to a similar sized Avast unit. Plus the Avast unit is local and from my experience the Avast tech support is great.
  17. Plain old Portland cement will work too.
  18. If you were starting a ~250 gal mixed reef what skimmer would you buy? A: I would get the Avast CS3. What do you have now and does it work well? A: I currently run a skimmerless nano system. What skimmer would you avoid at all costs? A: Anything that starts with "Coralife"
  19. Could have come in on your original live rock unless you started with dry rock.
  20. Once they are removed, make sure you dip all new corals and rock to prevent them from showing up in your display tank again. Search this site for many threads covering the techniques of proper dipping.
  21. They are flatworms but I can't tell from the pics if they are red planaria. Also research a product called Flatworm Exit. Some wrasses will help to control them but will never fully wipe them out.
