  1. The water does not shut off automatically anymore after replacing the filters and membrane. After reading the instructions online I think I am missing a check valve (never had one before but did work fine). Is there a local store sell the check valve?
  2. I always use 100% silicone from Homedepot. Never have any issue. I don't think there is any difference.
  3. Thank you Steve and everyone. I will follow up with Sea Atlanta first.
  4. I have a calcium reactor second chamber from MRC but the top leaks due to old o-ring. I have a hard time finding anyone from MRC to get a replacement. It is about 6" OD but very thin kind. Does anyone know a local source I can go and find a match or can I use something else other than the o-ring to seal the top?
  5. Why does adding the effluent into skimmer body will strip out the ca/alk? The water in the body is highly Oxygenated also and the contact time is much longer.
  6. I have a kalk reactor but my ph is between 8.02 to 7.8. I tried run the air from outside with no oh difference. Piper27, do you need to clean your skimmer pump often due to calcium buildup?
  7. I have a single chamber ca reactor. I want to raise tank ph by degasing the effluent. Which one of the following is better? 1. add second chamber with ca media. 2. add second chamber using air pump/air stone overflow into sump 3. drip into skimmer from the skimmer top lid. 4. drip into skimmer water pump intake I am leaning toward #4 since it is easiest to do but not sure if the pump needs too much maintenance due to ca buildup.
  8. I found the information from JBJ website FAO. http://www.jbjlighting.com/prod-ato-faqs.html I am suprised this is not mentioned in the owner's manual. Thanks.
  9. I don't recall seeing this information is the owner's manual. Do you know what is the max time it can be changed? My old set up from other brand is to use sensor 1 turns on the solenoid from my RO unit when the water level is low. If sensor 1 is stuck in on position the sensor 2 will shut the solenoid off when the water reach a higher position.
  10. I bought a new one this week from BRS. I think it is defective but I want to ask people who has one that this is NOT normal before I send it back. The 110V AC outlet only runs about 5-10 minutes then stops. If I move the sensor (set it off then on) it will start to produce power for another 5-10 minutes. I tested it for about 30 minutes the behavior is pretty consistent. This is NOT normal is it?
  11. Bought a deep cycle marine battery yesterday. Ran the batter/invertor combo last night from 12 to 8 with two power heads. Tank looks fine this morning. I think that is what I am going to do in the future, batter at night and the generator the rest of the day. Winter maybe different if I have to plug in my heater.
  12. I told him I have a fish tank so I need to run the generator. I can't imagine that someone will complain either but... We are all different.
  13. I ran my generator all night to power my equipment. Neighbor came over early morning complaining that it is too noisy. Are there any kind of rules in Fairfax county to run a generator when we lost power?
  14. After replacing the membrane and the filters, my RO unit does not shut off automatically anymore. The waste water side has water keeps coming out even I am not generating any filtered water. I can't figure out what the problem is. I connected and disconnected so many fittings now I can't remember which is which. I am still not convinced that the auto shut off valve is the problem. Since dvoneb aqua is no longer in business I can't find anyone to ask. I read the instructions from bulkreef but I am not sure if devonb unit works the same way. I did try a new flow restrictor to match the new membrane and a one way check valve but did not solve the problem. Does anyone has a unit made by devonb so I can check my plumbing? Is there a way to check the auto shut off valve?
  15. My seal started to leak last night. All stores are closed today. If anyone has a spare one in N. VA area I am more than happy to stop by and pay for it. I will be in and out today. Give me a call please. 703-4725860 Bob
  16. I have done both. I ran the skimmer with outside air overnight or areaed the water in a small container outside air. Neither case changes the water PH.
  17. I ran the skimmer with outside air for a day and it did not make any difference to the tank PH.
  18. "Temperature, salinity, tank volume and surface area available for gas exchange, agitation, ionic balance, organic acid content, presence of CO2 consumers and producers (plants and animals), lighting cycle" Everything you have listed above alter the CO2 content and alkalinity. If I measure the CO2 content and alkalinity for a given water sample, can the PH be determined based on the graphic you have posted previously?
  19. I have been using IO but now switch to Brightwell. Does the PH value in tank water only depend on the CO2 content and alkalinity?
  20. I believe my PH probe is correct but I bought a new probe anyway. I am going to calubrate the tank PH probe and reactor PH probe. My alkalinity is between 9 and 10 dkh.
  21. I will raise the PH in the calcium reactor not lower. I get so so growth but not good color.
  22. My tank PH had been around 7.6-7.8 for more than 2 years since I started keeping sps. The PH did not change by aerating the tank water overnight using outside air. So it is not too much CO2 in the water. I did not know what else to try. Two weeks ago, I raised the magnesium to 1400 ppm and cleaned my kalk reactor completely and putting in new power. The PH was increased to 7.9 at the highest in a day. This weekend I increased the water flow (half of the returned water) to go through the refugium. Now the PH raises to 8.16 at the highest. One more thing I like to try but not sure if it makes any difference. I run Ca reactor and Kalk reactor. Do you think by raising the PH slightly in the calcium reactor is going to help the tank PH? I understand that I may need to increase the effluent dripping rate so it could be a wash. But again, the effluet maybe saturated, raising the PH slightly may not affect the amount of calcium/alkalinity in the effluent. I have a PH controller set between 6.5 and 6.6 to control the Ca reactor.
  23. Salifert calcium is the best I have used so far. The color change is very obvious and easy to read. Are you sure you are using it correctly?
