  1. Just thank god for call of duty 4, you might not have caught it in time if your reflexes weren't in full gear
  2. Awesome tank, please keep us posted on how the dry rock does. I know exactly what you mean about people saying ... oh "thats nice" about your masterpiece

My advise is to plan out how you are going to rearrange. Try to imagine how rocks will fit together to create the structures you want. It helps to just stare at the tank for a long time. If you try to wing it you will become frustrated very quickly. Good luck, thats one of the most difficult things to do in my opinion.... can be very rewarding though
  4. when i used to work in a pet store i used to experiment with aiptasia and peppermints. I would put any rock that had aiptasia on it in the peppermint tank. The aiptasia disappeared. Grant it, the peppermints were in a 6 inch cube so they might have been a little more motivated. Besides peppermints are pretty cool, and isn't that the aquarist's dream; to have a natural solution like that?
  5. That is a beautiful lion fish! and congratulations on successfully feeding him. Very cool setup man. I am amazed by the pill bugs!! I am thinking about maybe setting up a pill bug tank now
  6. hey rascal, that picture of your tank just made me sick... funkin sweet!
  7. (JC pollman) yeah fishwife's return works kinda like that, you should check out her thread...
  8. Thanks for all the replies guys... really interesting topic for me. Does any body have experience with wave boxes? or the wavyseas oscillating return?
  9. jason, what thread? I don't see anything?
  10. my best guess would be to shield it's light and flow. or unplug it and plug it back in... that works for most of my problems.
  11. The more I think about this the more I think I'm gonna burn my house down trying to save money... I would probably want to use 250 watt metal halides on a 120 gallon mixed reef anyway. Though it seems like such a waste of the these ballasts and bulbs i have.
  12. Hey everybody, I am setting up a 120 reef ready tank, with 55 gallon refugium. I have been thinking of the best way to setup waterflow. It seems to me that those Tunze nano-streams create the most beneficial flow patterns. I also thought about making my return just like the way Fishwife did it, (split the return line up under the sand bed. Or something similar involving dividing up my return... especially since i have two megaflows allowing massive return power. I would like to keep a mixed reef. My current tank doesn't have very strong flow because i have very few sps. Is it possible to have good sps growth with flow that won't blow away mushrooms? I could go on forever...sorry, basically just want to know if I should waste my time plumbing some crazy return system if the Tunzes will be better anyway. Or better yet put propellers on my return kinda like the modified maxijets... put THAT in your pipe and smoke it! Thanks yall, Tom
  13. Does anyone have any experience breeding fish? I have done a good amount of research and primarily concerned with the fry feeding aspect... seemingly the hardest part. Anyone have any methods for culturing rotifiers and collecting them for feeding? I am contemplating breeding clowns in a 120g tank... that is why. Traveller7 I am looking at you... loved your TOTM thanks, Tom
  14. Thanks for the affirmation guys. Anybody know how to do this? Or where I could learn? I really haven't the foggiest notion as to how this would work. Thanks again. ~Tom
  15. Hi everyone, I have a 2 extra coralife 150 watt HQI ballasts. I was wondering if it would be possible to hook them up to these reflectors that I found on hello lights... http://www.hellolights.com/index.asp?PageA...amp;ProdID=1400 I say "hook them up" because thats about all I know. would I just be sticking the wires that come out of the HQI socket into the "plug" that comes out of the ballast? When I say "plug" I don't mean the one that goes into the wall but the one that would normally connect to one of coralife's penants. Anyone, anyone, anyone? thanks, Tom
  16. is that metal?? you painted it?? what kind of paint?
  17. Hi everyone, I have a 40 gallon tank which only had a tomatoe clown and a yellow tailed damsel for six months or so. I added a royal gramma to the tank a few days ago. The damsel immediately started harrassing him. the gramma's tail is a little torn up and he is hiding behind the power head all the time. He still eats the mysis shrimp when they pass within a few inches of his powerhead at feeding time. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any advice or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  18. Hey Grav, the frogspawn and favia brain you sold me are doing very well! thanks ~Tom
  19. WHAT A CHAMPION!! I love midas blennies...He probably deserves a name after that feat. I only name fish if they develop character. maybe Mario or Luigi, going down the pipes to collect coins most likely.
  20. Hey connor, I don't know how much you know already but I have found www.wetwebmedia.com to be an extremely helpful resource for almost anything you want to know. It is Robert Fenner's website, a renouned marine biologist. His books are very good also. Just google whatever it is you want to learn about with wetwebmedia ex. "plate coral wetwebmedia". I can get lost for hours reading on that website. Anyways good luck, Tom Oh yeah, one more thing... Use Reverse Osmosis filtered water from the getgo and always aerate your water for preferably one week in advance as you make up your saltwater.
  21. woah I was under the impression that brittle stars and serpent stars are the same thing... I guess not. Here is a link to a picture of what I have on liveaquaria http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Di...cfm?pCatId=1741 it is labed a fancy brittle star (Ophiure protoreaster). I had the fish 6 months at least before they dissappeared. I also had a couple of peppermint shrimp that are now gone now also.
  22. Heyall! I am a newbie and will be there. Looking forward to it. ~Tom
