  1. I just recently noticed a new creature on the reef. It's colorful, has weird wormlike tubes and holes, is very small ~1 cm, moves at sub-snail speed, and is apparently grazing on red algae. It may have a head and tail because it is traveling in a south-east direction. What is this?
  2. I thought this was a good article of the decline of bulbs over time http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2007-04/ac/index.php "After six months, the six bulbs' intensity was still 78-84% of their initial output (average, 81.5%). Even after 12 months their output had only fallen to 72-79% of the initial level (average, 75.7%)."
  3. Here's a very interesting video about "Pegging Corals". He drills holes in his large rocks and then mounts his corals to pegs which he then inserts into any number of holes that aready exist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb_EISFyQ3A If you are going to re-aquascape, then that would be a great opportunity to drill a bunch of holes for pegs or for the plugs that go in eggcrate.
  4. I've been wanting to see your tank and frags....I will be there.
  5. Another option to permanently glueing the frag or plug to the reef, is to glue the frag or plug to a small-medium size rock. This will allow you to move the coral around to different parts of the reef that will support the small-medium rock while still providing a stable base for the coral. You can also easily remove the coral for fragging, where, if its glued to the reef, you usually cannot. However, I prefer permanently attaching corals or plugs to the reef. I believe it's more stable and improves growth. It's definitely harder to frag that way, but I like the "Grown in" look of the aquarium when corals have been growing for years in relatively the same place.
  6. The following are available for either trade or sale 2 x XL Finger Leather, Sarchophyton 10"x10" ($45) 1 x Medium Finger Leather, 3" x 3" ($20) 3 2 x Purple Gorgonian 2" frags ($10) (Steve) 2 1 x Heliopora, Blue Ridge Coral frags ($10) (Steve) 1 x Green striped Palythoa rock, mother colony ($30) Green Laser Mushrooms (3 for $10) Pink Sinularia ($5 - $20) XL Finger Leather - 10" x 10" or larger depending on the day and their mood. This animal will separate a piece of itself off which will grow as a new coral and enjoys high water current. Good under PC lighting. Medium Finger Leather - 3" x 3", same as above Purple Gorgonians - Light purple color with brown polyps, does not like intense light, feeding not required. 2" stalks mounted to homemade plugs made from crushed coral. Good under PC lighting. Heliopora - Also called Blue Ridge Coral, originally from GARF as a 1/2" frag that has grown into a castle-like structure that is the centerpiece of my tank, see it's history here. The two towering frags in the back are available. Green Striped Palys - Large redish polyps with highly florescent green stripes. Also very easy to keep under any light. Feeding not necessary but they will eat brine and other food. This was the original rock I purchased 7 years ago that has spread. Center rock 50+ polyps. Good under PC lighting. Green Laser mushrooms - highly florescent under any light, extremely easy to keep growing to more than 4" in diameter and they don't need any maintenance or food. Clumps of 1-5 mushrooms attached to small rocks, single mushrooms attached to gravel. Good for ANY lighting. Pink Sinularia - Several small rocks with 1 or more Sinularia stalks. Grows like a weed. Good under PC lighting.
