  1. you forgot to mention Haliburton - please try again.
  2. wonder if this made mainstream news: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22246005/
  3. I would rather have a seperate panel with assigned circuits like fish tank, well pump, sump pump, kitchen and furnace, and then have those automatically cut over in the event of an outage. 'the new norm' - sounds more like 'what I know how to do whether or not it's the best thing for you'.
  4. this is fun - you see the RBTA touching the cap here - it was melting the edges: So I moved it off to the left, and now it's still after it - I think the cap was giving it a little shade, which is misses now.
  5. before I started feeding with the flow on I used to pour thawed mysis slowly in the tank and the CBB would actually go up to the top with his beak out of the water snapping at it like Flipper.
  6. I had to move mine - yes the RBTA will destroy the cap.
  7. you could do some kind of thing where the float switch wiring was fed up through a small hole in a 1/2" pvc cap, then up through more pvc - sealing the part where the wire goes through with epoxy. I really can't imagine putting a splice under water - buy another float switch. jp
  8. having fed Doug's CBB while tank-sitting - his also chases down frozen and prepared food sent into flow like all the other fish. I actually put the first and only PH in my tank to duplicate what he has going, and like it much better than when I used to cut all flow during feeding. That being said, in my main tank I have never seen a CBB, chromis or perc eat: flake, pellet or those formula-x gel cubes so my sucess with the CBB is the same as with all my fish - they all eat mysis and blended seafood.
  9. My CBB loves to chase food in the flow, never had problems with him eating, and only bought after I saw Sean at F&F feed him first. forgot to mention I feed frozen mysis, but back when I was blending scallops and shrimp it ate that too.
  10. that's the kind of expert advice I was looking for, thank you! I'll try a couple of smaller ones and see how it goes. jp
  11. Hola - I've had this gorgonia for a while, it's about 11" high and I was thinking about fragging it, maybe clipping a few branches so it was short enough for my nano or gluing several onto a flat piece of rock to make a forest. Before I did so, I wanted to see if there was anything special about fragging it - do I just clip and glue? Geez that picture came out terrible. thanks, jp
  12. wow those are awesome pics. Calendar indeed, if not hanging on the wall.
  13. dude try to keep the toilet out of your future shots! Man that cracks me up.
  14. why would it be any different? I have the same ballast running 24w and 39w T5s on seperate tanks.
  15. Dude, it looks like you built the house around the tank! I love it - and you have taken the plumbing painting to a new level, I bow to the new master. you rock man, that's one of the best setups I've seen. So much attention to detail - Do you have a stocking list in mind for fish? jp
  16. have you seen the diagrams on the Fulham web site? http://www.fulham.com/Detail_Ballasts.php?ID=WH5-120-L
  17. I am thinking about investing in something for the nano - it's too far away from the generator side of the house, and keeps me from running the plasma. All I had plugged in was an AC70, 50 watt heater and whisper10 for carbon. My computer UPS only lasted about an hour before dying just with that so I need a better solution if we get knocked out again.
  18. We lost power for about five hours, right after DaveS left with the Heiniocus until 9:30, and my generator did great. I was swapping lines between the nano and the satellite\plasma to watch the Redskins game.
  19. It doesn't get much more evil than that thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown-of-thorns_starfish "If accidentally touched or stepped on by humans, the starfish's long spines (which release a neurotoxin) are capable of pricking and stinging, inflicting great pain that can last for hours, as well as nausea and vomiting." Who wants to start tank-raising Humphead Wrasses?
  20. i have much success with a handheld acryllic ice scraper but find that I have to have my hand very close to the scraping part in order to get enough torque to chip away the coraline.
  21. removed a simple search on RC would also back up that CBB's eat aptasia but then I think we'd have to go through the whole who knows what about the hobby thing, so I just say 'whatever'.
