  1. yea he is great though he is still scared of me. he runs when i approach the tank and the cbb follows. also he doesnt seem to be very interested in meat. so i have to stay up on my nori.
  2. i just got a blonde naso a while ago and apparently he loves two things. his qt partner the copperband butterfly and bubble algae. so i wont have to worry about that crap anymore. sweet!
  3. well first i would say get a refractometer so you know if that is your salinity level. that wont affect the algae but it will affect everything else. second when fighting the beast known as gha 0 phosphate is a must. very low nitrates will help. frequent water changes also help. make sure you arent overfeeding. what are your nitrate and phosphate levels?
  4. to bring up your alk just use baking soda from arm & hammer. only bake the baking soda if if your ph is below 8.4. also dr. holmes farley talks about this issue extensively on reefkeeping online. if you have a high demand the 2 part will no longer be a frugal option. that being said it would be better to fix the calcium reactor since you have one and because it is easier to deal with than 2 part and you cant find a local calcium chloride of suitable purity anymore now that dowflake has changed their mixture.
  5. i have that in my tank but it is red. dispatch it. or get a tang.
  6. i dont know what it is but id like a frag
  7. good thing you decided to stay
  8. i think the ro only does all filtration except the di resin. this is in case you wat to drink the water or test the water comin out before the di to see how hard that stage is working
  9. if you put it on the rock it will encrust but if it sits on a frag plate it will grow a skeletal structure.
  10. thanx gents
  11. thanx bob that is great. if you know how to do it i may have to drive to manassas again. it is especially important because i have alot of water pressure coming out of my faucet.
  12. i wonder if the pressure gauge can be added as an option since pressure is so important to production levels. id rather not pay the extra to get the extreme just for the gauge.
  13. i am getting a new ro/di unit soon and i was looking at the typhoon and the typhoon 3 for the differences. can you tell me what they are?
  14. thats the thing. mine declined very quickly and then it stopped and has held there for months. it even feeds still.
  15. thats quite a bio load. you may need dan to build a standard 12 for you. nutrients may be an issue.
  16. i hope i can ask this question here. i bought an elegance last march but i dont know if it was an aussie. it was doing very well and i fed it regularly. about 2 months ago it started to recede. now it is done to one polyp. that polyp hasnt gotten bigger or smaller and i moved it to an area with less flow. i havent witnessed any predators. i have available nutrients and not much has changed in my tank since this happened. what do you guys think?
  17. when mine leaked i pulled them apart or glued the excessively over that spot and it has worked.
  18. well it depends on whats in it. like doug said butterflies may eat it and some are more likely than others to do this. what fish are in there?
  19. high nitrates have cost me plenty of corals. the highest it has been is 40ppm. at one point i had it down to 5ppm. but for some reason it went back up again. i have decided to try a denitrator. havent found out when i will gget it but ill let you guys know how it goes when i do.i have a sand bed in my tank and in my fuge and i grow macro algae and i dont have bioballs or crushed corals. i do believe that these fish often go hungry in our tanks in the pursuit of low nutrients for the purpose of keeping acros. good luck in bringing the trates down everyone.
  20. it should say it on there but i think it is a week or two.
  21. i used it in my 180 and it worked in one treatment. just make sure you turn your skimmer and carbon off.
  22. how long did u dip it?
  23. hellolights.com is good if you are under 400 watt mh's
  24. i have a clam that has been closed up for a few days. the cleaner shrimp pick at it occasionally and it looks like the pics of PM that i have seen at clams direct. do you guys have any experience with this
  25. i use tank water and have tested the ammonia at undetectable for salifert. i use tank water for this reason. my ph is 8.0. his eyes are not cloudy. i did observe him swimming into a rock so hopefully its just that. well is definitely dim. these angels are truly deepwater in that i have one side of the tank lit and one side isnt and they stay on the dark side. i am the only one that moves around the tank all day and only to feed and do a water change. what kind of medications could i put in the water?
