More on our efforts to help during these trying times

Hey Everyone, as you know we're doing our part to try to do as much with social distancing as we can.  While we are active with this, we also understand that this is having a tremendous impact on some families and those with an expensive hobby like ours may have to make some sacrifices that they don't want to.  In order to help out our community at large we are moving to a model of self-service water outside of our shop during our business hours (so that we can ensure that it doesn't get left on by mistake and drain all of our water and perhaps burn out some pumps).  We are working on a better delivery system but for now we have done two things with our water supplies:

1. Saltwater is now reduced in cost and is on the honor system - we'll have a drop box outside that you can simply drop $1 into for each gallon that you take.

2. RODI is now free of charge for anyone needing it.  That's right, just come to the shop and we'll have the tap set up outside.

Unfortunately we won't be able to do anything to disinfect in between fillings as we've moved to this model so that we can provide as much distance as possible so if you are concerned about this, please bring some gloves or something else to prevent any possible transmission of COVID-19 or other pathogens.  Also, if you decide to take advantage of this, please make sure to keep your distance from others while they fill their jugs or you wait to fill yours (this is a very personal decision but respecting distances from others unless they say otherwise is probably the best plan for the time being).  Let us know what else we can do to help you out in this time of need.  Obviously this is a very small gesture but hopefully your aquarium is a safe haven from the chaos around you and this helps to keep yours in great condition through the hardships that are probably on the horizon.

Just now, Hilary said:

You guys rock!

Thanks Hilary, we're trying our best.  Like everyone else, these are times that we need to reflect on what's important and what's not.  Actually just posed a question to the moderation team and we know you get those so let us know what you think.

Very thoughtful approach. I hope those needing saltwater and RO/DI will thank you all by visiting the store when things settle back down.

Thank you all for doing this!

Update:  Curbside pickup / phone orders etc is 7 days 11:00-5:00.  The outdoor valve for saltwater is tied into our main SW tank, so while there is lots of it, we need to shut if off when we are not there. We have a 3,000 GPD RO/DI unit and the supply of Fresh RO/DI water is significant (about 100 gallons at the curb) but replenishes relatively slowly.  Demand has exceeded supply at times.   RO/DI water per person per day is free, limit 5 gallons but is available ANY TIME.  If you need more, take up to 20 gallons but we ask that you pay for it.  Water is all "on your honor" self serve.  Put cash in the "lock box" or call to pay with credit card.

All of our other items are also available. Frozen and dry fish food, fish, corals, filters, lights you name it.

Please be aware we are using H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) as an aquarium safe disinfectant. Hand sanitizer is also at the curbside "desk" for your use.  If you need a small bottle of H2O2 for your self we have those available too.   FYI White Vinegar is NOT suggested byt the CDC to kill COVID-19 but there has been a rush on it in the stores as people assume that it will work as a cleaner. We are very low on the stuff, just for every day aquarium use like dissolving coraline algae.  So if you have some to spare we could use it.

Lets us know if you think of anything we can do to help you be successful with your fish tank in these tough times.

Thanks for continuing to be awesome.

For dissolving coraline algae I don’t have white vinegar, but I have bags of citric acid if you need any.

Thanks for the offer!!!  We like white vinegar because it is so mild to the skin, even with extensive day after day use, inexpensive and gets the job done.  I'm not anticipating it to be out of stock for very long, and we do have a week+ supply.   Your comment reminded me of Citric acid, which we have not used, but should be a good / safe alternative.  The hoarders have not been on that, so I just ordered some on amazon.  Thanks for the offer and idea!!!
