Yes to my knowledge you need an Apex for a DOS. I just took my GHL doser 2 offline if you’re looking.

I had similar issues, also running t5s. I ended up adding a few more fish and going from weekly water changes to every other week. Nutrients were virtually undetectable. I did dose Neophos and Neonitrate for a bit, but now just keep it on hand so I don’t bottom out.

I’ve used Chemiclean a few times. The last time I used it in my mixed frag tank. Torches, hammers, mushrooms, and a few pieces of SPS everything was fine. I used less than the recommended amount, ran carbon after two days and then did a 20% water change. Ran the skimmer w/ cup off and I also added an air stone.

I have not been happy with GHL’s software. The user experience leaves a little to be desired imo.

I have a cheap doser if you want one.

In my frag/overflow tank I’ve got an outbreak of what I believe is Hydroids. Tank is 2 years old, bare bottom low nutrient. Nitrates and phosphates usually undetectable, I dose neophos and neo nitrate until I get more fish. I’ve stopped aminos and extra food for the time being. The things with the white tips, not the cyano. Any natural predators?

I’m struggling with some SPS loses with no real justification based on testing and I am leaning towards the problem being bacterial. Does anyone have a treatment regiment for SPS? I read of some success with Witch Hazel and Cipro or other medicines, but I trust this forum much not than some others. Any experience here?

I watched the announcement with Terrence and Ryan and I’m excited to see what comes next.

After turning the corner from an Alk issue, I am still having issues with some Acros stning from the bases and I’ve also lost a few torches. I sent in an ICP and the biggest issues are in order of my concern: 1. Tin is at 26 ( I’ve checked heaters and magnets all appear to be sealed and in working order). 2. Iron is at 10 (might be from dosing Chaeto grow?) 3. Strontium was low (recommended dosing) 4. Molybdenum was too high 5. Lithium and Bromine were low Anyone have an issue with Tin before and a method to reduce it? Thoughts on high iron? I haven’t used GFO in years, but I add a capful of Chaetogro every other week or so (will be pausing for the near future)

My smell is just unhappy acros being trimmed. @phlynamjaxwas the op.

I’m having similar issues. My colonies are rtning from the bases. I’m sending out my ICP this week it will be interesting to compare to yours and see if we have similar test results.

Hard to tell, but whenever I’m trimming SPS there is definitely a smell I would describe as sweet and unpleasant. ?

It’s hard to tell from the picture how high it is, but looks like enough space to me. Looks like plenty of surface area for corals. You may want to have additional rock in the sump for bio filtration. Are you drilling the tank?

I like orientation #2, but you have to look at it everyday so whatever makes you happy, go with it.

Clean water (low nitrates and phosphates) obviously helps with keeping algae at bay, however, I’ve found clean up crew to be the most beneficial. If you can’t have a small tang, I’d get an blenny and I’ve also had great success with urchins. Tuxedos are my urchin of choice. Maintaining levels of hermits and snails help as well. Really dig the scape btw!

Vibrant also works pretty well at helping reduce and eliminate Bubble algae. If your lucky emerald crabs will also eat it.

It’s hard to find “clean” Cheato, even Algae Barns clean cheato is not guaranteed clean. I think I’m around the corner from you and would happily give you some of mine. I can’t say it’s “clean” but I don’t have aiptasia in any of my tanks, I do have typical bristle worms, vermited snails, micro brittle stars and I’m sure other micro fauna. I got mine from another member and soaked it in fresh RODI water for about a day, then rinsed and observed in a 2 gallon tank I had laying around for a few days before adding to my tank.

I use eggcrate on top of 4 pvc legs for my slimmer platform. It’s not pretty, but it works. I was surprised there really isn’t any vibration noise from the pump either.

Avast Marine has a product called a Barrel Tender V2 that is designed for this purpose. I haven’t personally used one but heard good things about their products.

Thanks Tom, my gut reaction was to stop dosing but I started second guessing myself. I did a 15% water change last weekend and will do another this weekend, while continuing to monitor parameters.

My Alk is down to 11.2 as of yesterday’s test. Dropping about .6 per day so far.
