  1. Free sumps. Limit 1 per household
  2. Hi everyone, still thinking about some kind of an event. Any suggestions for conversation topics? Phil
  3. @howaboutme we did get in an order of 500 of them and if you check out our social media sites there is a post that went up about the sale on them. Look for the crabby babies photo...
  4. If you haven't made it up here yet then definitely visit us here at Reef eScape. Our fish and corals are all quarantined so that we can offer the healthiest animals possible. This might mean that you'll have to make a second trip up North if you hit us during an active quarantine as we don't send fish out of the shop that are still being treated but it's a no risk quarantine for those that put down a deposit on an animal as we assume all of the risk. If you happen to be headed up here this weekend we're hosting a BBQ on Saturday along with some great sales!
  5. Hey Everyone, just wanted to let you know that we're having a BBQ on Saturday to celebrate Independence Day Weekend! It's a BYOD and C (Bring Your Own Drink and Chair) event and we'll be grilling for lunch. Of course, what would a cookout be without some great sales to go along with it? Still fun but not nearly as much! If you want to check out the sales you'll need to go to our Facebook or Instagram pages as we're announcing sales twice per day! https://www.instagram.com/p/CfZO-0LM8o1/ https://www.facebook.com/ReefeScape/posts/pfbid034oFHaSoLDRA4RNhQ1NfpsqSZFfzQDDGgyfUyn1fd3jcWeLhpq97N9gp1hk73pJY7l
  6. Hey Guys, it's been a long time since we've posted here but thought we'd share our current coral sale as we have tons of quarantined corals ready to go home with you! These range from softies to LPS to SPS with sizes from smaller frags all the way up through larger colonies. Right now through this Sunday, May 15, we are running a coral escalator sale where the first coral is regular price, 2 corals are 5% off, 3 corals are 10% off, and it increases up through 7+ corals at 30% off. It doesn't matter whether you purchase different grades of coral, the sale is good for whatever you want. We also got in a large shipment of fish yesterday that will be starting quarantine after we get them acclimated so now's the time to come in to check out what we've got and put down a deposit on the fish you want! As always, when you buy your fish from Reef eScape you can expect the highest quality and health from what you purchase. Our quarantine deposit is a no risk situation for you as your deposit holds the fish but if it doesn't make it through quarantine in great condition you have the option of getting a refund, transferring your deposit, or using it on something else! Keep an eye out on Social Media as well - last weekend we ran a couple of flash sales on Saturday ($5 off a single LPS and $5 off of all cleaner and fire shrimp) so who knows what might be in store for this weekend!
  7. Interested in a career in the retail and service side of the hobby? We are hiring! Reef eScape is looking to add someone who can work in our retail store and also do some service on tanks throughout Northern Virginia, DC, and Baltimore. If you're interested in learning more about this position please reach out to dave@reefescape.net with a cover letter and a resume. We offer multiple benefits such as matching contributions in a retirement fund, PTO, and of course, the ever popular employee discount on both livestock and dry goods! Your new adventure awaits!
  8. We've got some great prizes for our Winter Holiday Raffle coming up! For every in-store shopping visit you automatically get a single entry into the raffle and the more you spend, the more tickets you get! In addition, just for our WAMAS friends, we know you’re missing your Meeting Raffles so bring receipts from other WAMAS Sponsors dated from September through November of 2020 and we’ll give you an additional ticket for every $50 you spent – that’s right, we’ll give you raffle tickets just for supporting WAMAS Sponsors and you’ll get to enjoy Receipts for Raffles even without a meeting! Check out our link below for details - come see us soon! Reef eScape Winter Holiday Raffle and Clamstravaganza!
  9. We've changed our hours to expand the time that we're open to suit Phase 3 changes to the area - we're now open Weekdays from 12-7 and Weekends from 10-6 during which time we'll be offering the safest way to shop through our Curb Side Carryout. Our water is still available as self-serve with the first 5 gallons of RODI free and everything after that at $1 per gallon in the drop box or by calling into the shop to pay via credit card (saltwater is $1 per gallon, no freebies for this!). We are also now open for In Store Shopping by appointment. Visit our NEW website to get more details and to schedule your visit today! We're also working on getting our entire catalog online so that you can always see what we've got in stock before you make the trip out to see us and will be featuring delivery within a certain area so that you can shop from the comfort of your own home and have it delivered to your door! Visit us on the web to find out more! See the New Reef eScape Website!
  10. I apologize for the confusion with our current hours. The site right now is not correct and we are currently working on a brand new site that will be up to date. However our google listed hours are correct, we are open 11am-5pm for curbside pickup every day. In the previous post there may have been some confusion when we said we would open again on Saturday. In that post we meant that we were closed for ALL retail for those few days and then reopened for curbside that Saturday. We do have a plan in the works for reopening and will post about it as soon as we have worked everything out. If you ever have questions about our hours on a given day you can give us a call. We have been very cautious because we primarily service aquariums in people's homes and do not want to expose our at risk clients. Some of our staff and families are also in at risk categories. We are still here for our retail customers, we just need to be a little creative.
  11. Hey Guys, just a heads up, we will be closed for retail curbside carryout for the next 3 days (May 27, 28, and 29, Wednesday through Friday) but will reopen for our normal hours on Saturday. While we are closed RODI will still be available and if you call ahead we might have someone in the shop to turn the saltwater on for you. If you have any emergencies you are welcome to call the shop at 703-261-6996 as there might be someone here that can help you out but please do not just show up as there might not be anyone here.
  12. Ha ha, not that type of escalator! Our coral escalator sale is back - all corals start at 5% off and you can get up to 40% off your entire purchase by adding more - doesn't matter what kind, you could buy 7 of our cheapest corals and then one from our highest end section and they would all be 40% off! Look for our Utter Chaos zoanthids bonus coming soon, too!
  13. Hey Guys, as you know we were one of the first shops in the area (not just aquarium stores, but for all retail stores) to shut our doors to walk in customers and this has resulted in early efforts to continue to bring you the supplies and animals that you need. We now have revised hours 7 days a week and are available at the shop for you to call ahead and have us place your purchases outside the shop for convenient pick up from 11AM-5PM daily. Don't worry, this doesn't mean that your stuff is on a rack with everyone else's purchases, we wait until you arrive and then place it outside when you let us know you're there. For fish and livestock we wait until you arrive or at least until you tell us you are on your way to bag them up to take the best care of you and your purchases. If you are curious as to what we have in stock, our entire dry goods selection is available when you do a Google Search for Reef eScape - it'll have a window on the Google search page with some "popular items" (aka things that have been purchased and scanned recently) but it will also let you search for a specific item along with the price for it. We are also now on eBay for select purchases and even offer local delivery! On top of this, we also have a FaceBook store now open with select merchandise being featured there and are adding to that each day. Check out these links for more information on what we've got and your options for purchasing whatever you need! Reef eScape FaceBook Shop Reef eScape eBay Shop Reef eScape Google Store We're working on getting our fish up on eBay as well but if you ever want to see a fish or find out what we've got in stock don't hesitate to call and ask - we can also Face Time with you or send you photos of animals upon request. Don't forget that we also now have self-serve RO/DI Saltwater available during business hours for $1 per gallon as well as up to 5 gallons of free RO/DI available 24/7 (you may take more but we ask that you pay $1 per gallon for anything more than 5 gallons each 24 hour period as we've struggled to keep up with demand so are trying to make sure that we can help everyone out). This is all self-serve honor system and we ask that you place the cash in the drop box after your purchase. If you don't have the cash, go ahead and give us a call and we can take your payment over the phone. We also have some spray and hand sanitizer at the desk outside so you can sterilize your hands or the water supply handles before and after you use them. Stay safe!
  14. Thanks Hilary, we're trying our best. Like everyone else, these are times that we need to reflect on what's important and what's not. Actually just posed a question to the moderation team and we know you get those so let us know what you think.
  15. Hey Everyone, as you know we're doing our part to try to do as much with social distancing as we can. While we are active with this, we also understand that this is having a tremendous impact on some families and those with an expensive hobby like ours may have to make some sacrifices that they don't want to. In order to help out our community at large we are moving to a model of self-service water outside of our shop during our business hours (so that we can ensure that it doesn't get left on by mistake and drain all of our water and perhaps burn out some pumps). We are working on a better delivery system but for now we have done two things with our water supplies: 1. Saltwater is now reduced in cost and is on the honor system - we'll have a drop box outside that you can simply drop $1 into for each gallon that you take. 2. RODI is now free of charge for anyone needing it. That's right, just come to the shop and we'll have the tap set up outside. Unfortunately we won't be able to do anything to disinfect in between fillings as we've moved to this model so that we can provide as much distance as possible so if you are concerned about this, please bring some gloves or something else to prevent any possible transmission of COVID-19 or other pathogens. Also, if you decide to take advantage of this, please make sure to keep your distance from others while they fill their jugs or you wait to fill yours (this is a very personal decision but respecting distances from others unless they say otherwise is probably the best plan for the time being). Let us know what else we can do to help you out in this time of need. Obviously this is a very small gesture but hopefully your aquarium is a safe haven from the chaos around you and this helps to keep yours in great condition through the hardships that are probably on the horizon. Your friends at Reef eScape
  16. Hello WAMAS, Based on guidelines and suggestions from the CDC and other health authorities, we have decided to do our part in social distancing to protect not just our clients and customers but also our own Reef eScape family. While we remain open for business, customers will no longer be allowed inside the shop but we remain committed to providing you with all of your aquarium needs. We have a list of fish and animals that are available for purchase and can provide you with the same level of advice and help with dry goods as you've come to expect from us. Payments can be taken over the phone for any purchases and we will leave your purchases outside of the front door for you to pick up when you call (purchases will not be placed outside until you arrive). Steps for placing a to go order for curb-side delivery before you arrive: 1. Call 703-261-6996 so we can take payment over the phone. We can provide a paper, email, or text receipt upon request 2. When or shortly before you arrive call us again and we’ll begin preparing your purchases. 3. Call again when you arrive and we’ll place your purchase on the table outside the door If you are already at the door, we will complete the transaction while you wait. We also have water available for self fill up - all you have to do is call ahead and we'll turn on the spigots so you can fill your water jugs yourself outside the shop. We do sanitize the hoses in between uses as well as all other surfaces that customers come into direct contact with. While outside the shop, we have floor mats that designate the appropriate 6’ perimeter for social distancing. Please understand that we will not open the door while anyone is on the mat and if you are at the shop, we also encourage you to keep a distance from other customers while you wait. Thanks for your cooperation in our efforts to keep everyone safe and healthy during this state of emergency. If you have any questions or suggestions for how we can provide you with a safer environment, please don't hesitate to reach out. The best way to get in touch with us is to call directly, 703-261-6996. If you are interested in any animals, here's a list of current livestock (keep in mind this is a dynamic list) that has cleared quarantine and is ready to go home with you today! ocellaris clowns (multiple) bicolor blenny foxface longnose hawkfish koran angel lawnmower blenny sailfin tang (medium) powder blue tang (medium) coral beauty angelfish (wild caught and captive bred) diamond goby (single and pair) filefish (large and small) sapphire damel solarensis wrasse lemon mimic tang scissortail goby 6 line wrasse yellow tang (medium) orchid dottyback firefish midas blenny pajama cardinal (extra large and medium) 2 bar rabbitfish black cap damsel blue and red wrasse chalk bass powder brown tang azure damsel orange skunk clownfish wyoming white clownfish bandtail pygmy waspfish mystery wrasse flame angel blonde naso tang red breast maori wrasse slingjaw wrasse yellow eye kole tang rhino blenny peppermint shrimp skunk cleaner shrimp emerald crab bumblebee snails harlequin shrimp (pair) blue coral banded shrimp sexy shrimp scarlet, halloween, and misc hermit crabs pom pom crab (no pom poms) trochus, turbo, margarita, astrea, nassarius, cerith snails tiger sand conchs (small) hairy urchin red rainbow urchin shortspine urchin sand sifting stars banded serpent star yellow feather duster green carpet anemone red, green bubble tip anemones sea hare misc. mushrooms green, red, and ultra rock flower anemones misc. corals and zoanthids derasa clam (5-7")
  17. Hi Melissa, a 10 gallon tank is harder to maintain in a classroom environment than a larger tank but if you already have the tank let us know how we can help. We don't have any equipment right now that would be usable on a system as small as yours but if we come across anything we can help you out. From a husbandry point of view, I would probably avoid an anemone is such a small tank unless you have a good light to go over it. They tend to be more finicky and on the other hand can grow to be quite large if they are thriving and choke out your other corals.
  18. Well, the unheard of has happened, we'll be staffed on Saturday by just the guys and so of course, we had to do something crazy before reason returns to the shop! For our bachelor weekend we're having a house cleaning sale with tons of free corals! If you buy 5 corals you get 1 free, 10 corals gets you 3 free, 15 corals gets you 5 free, 20 corals gets you 7 free, 25 corals gets you 10 free, and 40 corals gets you 20 free! All corals must be of equal or lower value to qualify for the deal but if you come in and decide you want to buy even more than 40 just talk to one of us and I'm sure we can do something for you!
  19. I would also worry about ammonia at this point in an unfiltered or brand new tank that hasn't been cycled. Yeah people do manage to keep them alive in jars because they are tough fish but he has already been through a lot and wont recover as well when not in optimal conditions. You could see if anyone you know nearby has a running freshwater tank you can steal some bacteria media from inside the filter from for the 2 gallon. Adding a bacteria additive doesn't really do that much. Hope he makes it. Would be a great story to tell people about him.
  20. Thanks Nikki! As a long time supporter of the club we're looking to re-engage with WAMAS as it's been quiet for awhile since we've been really active with the club. Looking forward to seeing what you buy with your gift card and glad that the Green Slimer went to a great reefer!
  21. Now through Sunday, February 16, all red corals, invertebrates, and anemones are 14% off! This includes everything from red mushrooms to blastos to zoanthids as long as they have red in them!
  22. Check out our auctions in the auction forum - a good sized chunk of Blue Ridge/Heliopora and a nice big frag of WWC Slimeball Anacropora are both being auctioned off right now at a fraction of their value! Great chance to get two fast growing corals, one for beginners and one for more advanced aquarists.
  23. Come see what we have to offer in our newly improved coral tanks. Now through February 2 all corals in our C Grade section will be 25% off!
  24. In case you didn't know, the three most important supplements for your tank are Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium. These three supplements are essential for the health and growth of your stony corals. Adding these without testing, however, can cause a myriad of issues so we always recommend that you test your water first and establish a baseline as to how much of these your tank consumes on a regular basis and then supplement based off of those numbers. We never recommend that you simply dose additives to your tank without knowing how these will impact you and an excess of calcium or alkalinity can actually cause your tank's levels to go down in the other to dangerous levels. Dosing magnesium can help to balance these out by preventing them from bonding to each other and forming insoluble and unusable forms of calcium carbonate. Have some burning questions about how to improve the conditions in your tank? Come on in and visit us and bring a water sample! We'd be happy to help you achieve the results you desire. We offer several brands of supplements and also mix our own right here on site that you can purchase in reusable 32 oz. jugs.
