cpu933k April 3, 2018 Author April 3, 2018 (edited) Also added these Tinker's Butterflyfish (Chaetodon tinkeri). They were supposedly caught as a wild pair, but who really knows? They haven't killed each other after 8 weeks of QT, so there's that. They are pretty hard to come by right now because according to the collectors, they shut down the west side of one of the islands they normally collect them at. I happened to find a LFS in SoCal that had several of them in stock. Their price for a pair was cheaper than the price for 2 individually, so I suspect it's probably not a true wild caught pair as retailers usually charge a premium for true pairs. tinkeri 1: tinkeri 2, I think one of his dorsal fins is slightly damaged, but doesn't seem to affect him: Pair: Hawaiian buddies with a cowfish photobomb: Full tank shots: Regal is still the boss and chases everyone around. rt502 April 3, 2018 April 3, 2018 You pretty much have my dream fowlr tank. I love this. Planning to add any others or are you set? (I love me some magnificent foxfaces).
cpu933k April 3, 2018 Author April 3, 2018 You pretty much have my dream fowlr tank. I love this. Planning to add any others or are you set? (I love me some magnificent foxfaces). Thanks. Maybe 2-3 more, then done stocking. I have a goldflake in QT now, thinking of getting another semilarvatus, and one very special dwarf angel to cap it all off.
dmatt56 April 7, 2018 April 7, 2018 Just added: Borbonius (Blotched) Anthias This guy was dark and ugly and hiding the whole time in QT. I was regretting my purchase. When he finally made it in the DT, he instantly colored up. Very happy now. Where did you find the anthia?
cpu933k April 8, 2018 Author April 8, 2018 Great job so far. Curious where you got the longhorn from? Thanks. I got the longhorn cowfish from liveaquaria.
dfloydvt April 8, 2018 April 8, 2018 Thanks. I got the longhorn cowfish from liveaquaria. Very nice. What size is it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cpu933k April 8, 2018 Author April 8, 2018 Very nice. What size is it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I bought it as a small: 1" to 2-1/4"
dfloydvt April 8, 2018 April 8, 2018 I bought it as a small: 1" to 2-1/4" Thank you. I want to get a little bit bigger size one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
dfloydvt April 13, 2018 April 13, 2018 Supreme Reef was able to get me one in. Currently in qt about 3-4”
cpu933k April 15, 2018 Author April 15, 2018 Pellet feeding time: I like how the regal is like, I'll let you guys duke it out at the surface while I eat the pellets down here. These guys act like they are starving but get NLS pellets 2x day, frozen (mysis or reef frenzy) 1x day, nori 1x day, and live blackworms 1x day.
cpu933k April 16, 2018 Author April 16, 2018 Nori feeding time. Pardon the dirty tank. Despite using the Two Little Fishies Pouch Feeder and folding the nori multiple times over each other, the idol and tinkeris yank the nori out of the pouch in no time. Then it's a free for all between the fish, each taking turns yanking the nori out of each others' mouths.
BowieReefer84 April 16, 2018 April 16, 2018 Sweet tank and fish! Maybe a blue throat trigger? They have yellow tails... I bet feeding time is fun with that tank!
cpu933k May 14, 2018 Author May 14, 2018 Added a small semilarvatus to try to pair with the other larger one. Not sure if they are paired up. Definitely no aggression towards each other. They mostly keep to themselves and do their own thing, but they do swim together and hang out together periodically. The little guy is a bit paler than the bigger one, but hopefully with time will color up more. Pardon the dirty tank. Going through a dino outbreak right now Love my butterflyfish "pairs":
cpu933k May 21, 2018 Author May 21, 2018 (edited) Centropyge interrupta, my ultimate dream fish. She is at 4-5 inches and quickly dethroned the moorish idol as #2 in the tank (the regal is still the boss). Although not a "perfect" male specimen, I think I actually prefer the female coloration. This may be a bit of a stretch in terms of the yellow theme, but the caudal and pectoral fins are yellow. Edited May 21, 2018 by cpu933k
matt May 21, 2018 May 21, 2018 Wow! That's awesome...a great tank just got better. Where did you get the interruptus? She is beautiful
dfloydvt May 21, 2018 May 21, 2018 Tank is looking good. Amazing fish in there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cpu933k May 24, 2018 Author May 24, 2018 (edited) I've given up on nori clips, pouch feeders, rubber banding nori to rocks, etc. There's no way there is going to be all-day grazing on nori in this tank. I just hand feed it now. Here is a 4x4 nori sheet (folded up) gone in 60 seconds: BTW, who knew cowfish loved nori this much? Edited May 24, 2018 by cpu933k
monkiboy May 24, 2018 May 24, 2018 (edited) have you tried the innovative marine gourmet grazer? i've never had an issue with them. my regals and achilles go bonkers for nori and not even their very feisty and unapologetic eating habits seem to be an issue for it. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/gourmet-grazer-auqa-gadget.html i have several in use and would be happy to give you one for free to try if you like. feel free to PM me if interested. thanks for the share, keep the updates coming! cpu933k May 24, 2018 Author May 24, 2018 (edited) Yeah, I have the Two Little Fishies Pouch Feeder, which has smaller holes than the IM Gourmet Grazer and the fish are still able to grab the nori and yank it through the holes. Edited May 24, 2018 by cpu933k
monkiboy May 24, 2018 May 24, 2018 yeah the pouch feeder really doesn't work well for any of my nori eaters. with the grazer there is significant closed pressure/tension so you can put two or three sheets and shut it and there is no way to yank sheets out of the holes as it's held tight all the way around and plenty of room for natural grazing behavior from even large-mouthed messy nori eaters.
