I was at the Food Lion at Wintergreen Plaza yesterday (where Fitness First and Block Buster are located) and when I left right next to Food Lion there is a sign announcing the opening soon of a LFS carrying Marine and Freshwater stock. Will see when it opens. Rumors are the store owner is the original owner of Congressional Aquarium and he is not happy with the turn his original store has taken after being sold meaning poor quality live stock, high prices and so forth. He wants to make a stand and bring in superior stock and low prices so the average family in MOCO can enjoy the hobby.

Interesting. I know who you are talking about and have worked for him when I was a youngin. Good guy. May I ask where you got this info from?

The rumor I got from an owner of another store in the area which is friends with the original owner of Congressional but once again don't hold my word as LAW since is a rumor.

Interesting. I will have to take a look. I go to the Fitness first in that shopping center. Where is it in the shopping center?

:) I know Jay gives you guys at Congressional livestock at cost :)

Also I stopped by the other day and in the mushroom section they had a ricordia yuma for 29.00 so I picked it up and to my surprise when I got home it had 1 small on the bottom and 2 tiny one the top and mid size on the side of the rock! Can you say I got lucky!

Cool, I will have to check it out.

Chris,

Too funny. Remember our conversation in the car on the way to the meeting

LOL!!! Hey we could carpool!!!!!!!!

I thought the original owner of Congressional, Earl, died about 18 years ago.

He must be REALLY pissed at the quality to come back from the dead.

I just stopped by and talked with the owner (it was who I thought it was). He is planning to open the store by late June. I am going to be helping him out and will work to get him getting some cool reef stuff. :wig:

could you please provide directions to this new store? say from the Beltway up thru 270 perhaps? I work in Rockville although I live in Herndon, and could stop by once the store is open .

Hey CJ, take 270N get off on exit 4 towards Rockville, take Rockville Pike North, after passing Hooters start looking for edmonson street or avenue turn left and soon after start looking for the Food Lion entrance on the right. Is right next to Food Lion.

Even the old congressional store didn't get it right. Leopards never change their spots.

Your going to be looking at a small store in an extremely high rent area. Prices will be high and the owner will still likely have the same business practices.

I was talking to him yesterday about what his saltwater was going to be like and I am sure I will have some input on how things are going to be. I will try and make sure everything goes ok. He is going to have some very Knowledgeable people working there. He also said that he would try and match online prices.

Raf,

I will let him know.

Actually the old owner didn't have the same business practices that the new guy have, the old man was dedicated to improvement and affordable prices, healthy stock and a very strong customer service. Also he was quick to tell you don't buy that since is not comatible with your current stock.

If he's got a small footprint in a high-rent location, the only way he can run a successful business is to cater to the high-end purchaser. He's going to have to provide top quality livestock, hard good, and expertise to those with the knowledge to handle them and the money to afford them. This will cut out a lot of beginners who will then be forced to low-cost (and quality) outlets like ****Mart or ***Co. I wish him well, but prefer what Andrew is doing with Scales, where he is in a lower rent district than Rockville and has a large amount of floor space.
