YHSublime November 2, 2014 November 2, 2014 Hey all. About a year almost to date, I bought a waveline DC6000. I have regularly serviced it, and ran it on my 150. I'm trying to test my plumbing on the 180 today, and the pump will not start. Here is what I am getting: The controller light blinks green behind the "speed" settings at the highest bar, but the pump does not turn on. If I slow down the speed, the lowest bar will blink green... sometimes. I have kept it plugged in and hoped that it will soft start up, but that does not seem to be the case 30 minutes later. Anybody have any clue what is happening? I also had a bad controller out of the box when I bought it, FWIW, The vendor I bought from replaced the controller and dealt with the company instead of making me go through warranty. Perhaps that was a sign from the get that this is not the pump for me?
camelcruiser November 2, 2014 November 2, 2014 Probably the impeller I had to do some creative starting last time I started mine. Make sure the impeller is turning freely I had the same problem last week.

Cliff Puckstable November 2, 2014 November 2, 2014 Mine usually takes a few seconds to start working. I have never taken mine apart in the one year I've used it. Stupid question but you have it in water right? Don't these have some kind of run dry protection thingy?
YHSublime November 2, 2014 Author November 2, 2014 Yeah, in water. Cleaned it again, no dice. Pretty upset.
CaptainRon November 2, 2014 November 2, 2014 Need a pump? I have a spare 12000 you can borrow. Let me know and I'll make sure it works.
YHSublime November 2, 2014 Author November 2, 2014 Need a pump? I have a spare 12000 you can borrow. Let me know and I'll make sure it works. Thanks Ron, I'm running my backup jb12000, however, it's Murphy's law in place Hit it with a hammer I just might, think it will void warranty?
FirstContact November 2, 2014 November 2, 2014 Remove the impeller assembly and make sure there are no burrs inside the housing impeding the impeller from rotating. Had one replaced by vendor last September. Mine was locked; had to use pliers to pull out the impeller.
zygote2k November 3, 2014 November 3, 2014 Isaac- I have a pair of Blueline 40's that are great for return pumps available.

I think it's the controller, the pump seems to be in great working order. Isaac- I have a pair of Blueline 40's that are great for return pumps available. Thanks, Rob. I've got backup pumps, but for a $200+ dollar pump, I expect more than a year of service, especially with routine maintenance.
zygote2k November 3, 2014 November 3, 2014 That's why I try to stick with pumps that have been on the market for many years. I've had one of those waveline dc pumps do the exact thing you're describing and chalked it up as lesson learned and went back to the blue lines.
wangspeed November 3, 2014 November 3, 2014 Kinda sounds like it thinks it is out of water. They had some issues on this water detection safety thing, and some of them come set incorrectly. Make sure it's set to pump mode which is least sensitive. Chris @ Salty Supply passed this onto me. 1) Disconnect all cords from controller;2) Press the "+" and "-" at the same time and continue to hold;3) While still holding down the "+" and "-" buttons plug in only the power cord to the controller and let go of the "+" and "-" buttonsIf it is DC4000 water pump controller, Light 4th and 5th, from left to right, will be on.If it is DC4000 skimmer pump controller, Light 3,4, will be on.If the controller in customer's side is light on 3,4, then please press "+" button twice to let light 4 and 5 on, then disconnect controller again.Repeat above and make sure the light 4 and 5 is on, then disconnect again.Connect every cable to the controller, then try the pump again to see the water flow.

YHSublime November 4, 2014 Author November 4, 2014 And you were going to take a hammer to it.. We all have hard times bud, can't tell me you haven't thought about taking a hammer to a piece of equipment? What's crazy is that up down up down A A B B combo worked...

I just bought one of the waveline 6000s and plan on installing it on my new tank. Hopefully I won't have the same problem.

wangspeed November 4, 2014 November 4, 2014 Nice! Glad the procedure helped I bet there are a lot of DC pumps out there that are in this condition. Just set to the wrong sensitivity. There was a big batch like this, it seems. p.s. sorry if this double posts. Terrible connectivity here in Paris.
wangspeed November 4, 2014 November 4, 2014 I have the DC12000, and would caution that it is far louder than any of the other DC pumps that I've tried. It has a hum to it that is much louder than 6000 and below. If you keep the speed down, it isn't too bad though. Still, it is something worth noting, and I see that even Fish Street warns about this now on their Jebao pump page.
