I have 4 bar apex jr with the 8 bar attachment.

I plan on connecting the following items together through splitters, so they are both controlled from the same plug, and want to know if it's a good... or terrible idea, and why?

IT2080's

MP-40's

JB-40's

PSK-1000's

2 of each, powered by 4 outlets.

Seems like a good idea to me. None of them should overload a single outlet when doubled up. Although I dont know how many amps the it1280s draw. If it is more than 2.5 each you would need them on the 4 outlet ones or on port 4 or 8 of the EB8 because those can handle 10A on a single outlet.

If those psk1000s are the recirc pumps of the skimmer I might advise a three way and put the mj1200 feed pump on it too.

Thanks Alan. Do you know if a good place to get splitters? I found them on amazon, but it seems all aren't created equal.

Thanks for this. And for the link. I think I'll just go ahead and use the EB8 port, just want to be smart about my choices moving forward. I was unaware they made 3 split, so I'll definitely use that for the skimmer.

  • 5 weeks later...

I got a few of these.  They seem very well made to me.

Just ordered these. Should be here by Thursday. I'll be setting my Apex up with all my equipment and taking out the powerstrips! Next strip PH and Salinity Probe, some BRS dosers, and I'll be.... finished?

Well, i had one splitter on my skimmer so that the feed pump and the recirc pump were both on one EB8 outlet. I have another for powering my D120 which requires two power plugs. I have a third because I have two heaters and wanted to run them both from one outlet.

why are you using splitters....i never thought of this...so curious

So there are a lot of things in my tank that run in pairs. I have two JB 40's, two WP-40's, two MP-40's, two IT2080s, two PSK-1000's, running them off one outlet allows me to control at least the function of on and off for pairs at the same time with the splitters. At $5.50 a pop, you can't beat the convenience. Plus it helps keep a few outlets open for any additions.

I ordered one of these months ago and have been using it to run two small lights on a 4 gallon cube, they work well.  Every wc I am reminded to order more, just ordered two more...thanks for the reminder

4 open slots left, two for the dosers, unless I hook them up to a splitter as well and run them at the same time... but that seems like a bad idea now that I type it out. So I'll have 2 outlets left open after two dosers. I'm not using the Apex for much other than basic off and on functions (except for the heater.) The camera will be nice once I end up going that route. It's also comforting knowing that I'm running all my outlet off 2 GFI's.

I split one outlet on my Apex.  No issues so far.  The dosers have to be run off the relay controlled ports, fyi.  Definitely the only downside of the Apex for me so far.

You can put the dosers on any of the ports if you're willing to use a 2-way splitter on the port and put a small lightbulb or something on it alongside the doser.

The solid state ports don't like dosers because they use so very little current that it sometimes lock on.  If you put something additional with a larger current draw on it, like a lightbulb, you should be fine.

This is what I am thinking of doing with my EB8

57 Rimless Equipment -EB8

1-Skimmer

2-fuge light

3-Return Pump

4-Heaters (2) -Splitter

5-Reactor

6-ATO

7-Jebao WP-25

8-Radions (2) -Splitter

If I end up getting away from dosing kalk through the ATO down the road and going to 2-part I'll get an EB4 to add on.

You don't need a light bulb. You need one of these.

They usually come in 3 packs for a few bucks at Big Lots or Wally World. I keep mine on my ATO pump. It's a great way to A) use the lower voltage outlets on the Apex and B) Have a quick visual that your pump/etc is on.
