Mattiejay6 September 4, 2013 September 4, 2013 Soo... Now that my cycle is going I have to start looking at the live stock I would like to put in there.. I have some ideas of what I would like, but I need everyone's help. Tell me what your favorite fish are and if you think thy might do well in my tank. Tank Setup; 90 gallon. 48x24x18 30 gallon sump Total volume 120 gallons So lets see what awesome ideas everyone comes up with on fish for my tank :-) tell me if you think I missed a cool fish that you really like as well.. Give me ideas! Thanks all! Here is what I was thinking; 2 - Frostbite Clowns 1 - Chevron Tang 1 - Yellow Tang 2 - leopard Wrasse (Male/Female) 1 - Dottyback (maybe...not sure.. Possibly orchid dotty) 2 - Dragonface Pipefish 3 - Black axle chromis 1 - Blue Spot Jawfish
SaltLife September 4, 2013 September 4, 2013 I think black tangs are nice.Or the lighting maroon clowns are cool to...
Coral Hind September 4, 2013 September 4, 2013 The pipefish are poor swimmers so strong currents are not good for them. You will need to make sure they don't get sucked into overflow or any powerheads in the tank. Why do you want the black axle over the regular green chromis? I don't know if there is enough difference to pay three times as much for them.

Mattiejay6 September 4, 2013 Author September 4, 2013 I think black tangs are nice.Or the lighting maroon clowns are cool to... Lol.. Cool yes... But more then I can afford! The pipefish are poor swimmers so strong currents are not good for them. You will need to make sure they don't get sucked into overflow or any powerheads in the tank. Why do you want the black axle over the regular green chromis? I don't know if there is enough difference to pay three times as much for them. That's true about the pipefish.. My tank flow will be 2 tunze 6095 and a 1" sea swirl. I was reading they normal stay on the bottom lurking around, and was thinking they might be fine. I didn't even look at the price.. They seemed more vibrant but I guess you are right at 10 dollars Extra per fish slightly more vibrant is blah.
YHSublime September 4, 2013 September 4, 2013 I like the yellow tangs, always have I would say yes to the leopard Wrasse's, great looking fish. I agree with Coral Hind on the pipefish, do you plan on keeping SPS?
hawkfish01 September 4, 2013 September 4, 2013 Pipefish will not work in that tank as too many of other inhabitants are aggressive in nature and or eating habits..pipefish are like seahorses; species tank only..
SaltLife September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 Someone has nice but expensive taste. Well someone said cool fish ... just saying ... haha
s2nhle September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 my dottyback is very active and always on the look for pod.
gmerek2 September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 I have an evil maroon clown named Crusty. I will sell it to you any time my wife is at work. I just bought a purple dottyback. Love the coloring just hope she doesnt hide all the time like some and hope she isnt as aggressive as they say.
Mattiejay6 September 5, 2013 Author September 5, 2013 I really like the purple dottyback.. Ora has a black neon dottyback that looks cool too...
trockafella September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 Fwiw dottybacks can be rather nasty. I would avoid them. Look into reef safe wrasses, Flashers, fairy, etc. They come in amazing colors and aren't to hard to keep. However they can jump, but so can any and all fish.. Leopard wrasses aren't always easy to keep and will require a good sand bed, again, well known jumper so have a top on the tank. Oh, and for the price of two (ugly in my opinion) frostbite clowns, you probably could buy a black tang. I think you should do some more research on fish and there requirements..
gmerek2 September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 I agree its nice to research. And some breeds are more aggressive by nature than others. But can't each individual fish vary? My yella tailed damsel is the most timid fish in the tank. He's afraid of his own shadow. I reAd all over that they were less aggressive than the blue damsel but still very aggressive. This was the 2nd to last fish I added but she has a rock and has established territory on it. Also in a 125 the brand new dottyback and damsel have space. They are both the smallest by far and least aggressive fish in my tank. From my research I won't have to worry about them until 4-5 years from now when I add new fish and they are larger.

Oh I'm doing research still.... That's what this topic is about for me as well...
smallreef September 5, 2013 September 5, 2013 Oh,,, I just noticed you listed a blue spot jawfish...personally, and they are beautiful, I wouldn't add one..they like cooler water :( but the pearly headed and the crazy looking dusky jawfish do really good in our tanks' if you keep it warm...unless you planning on keeping your tank around 74 ish? (That's about where I keep mine)
Mattiejay6 September 5, 2013 Author September 5, 2013 Oh good point! Thanks! I didn't know that about the blue spotted jawfish.. Ill have to look at that... I'm thinking 78 is where my tank temp will be..
zygote2k September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 keep the tangs, dottybacks, wrasses, big school of chromis (20+).

Dottybacks (my neon specific), are the terror of the saltwater world!! he attacks everything. Has made my goby jump twice! once into the overflow and then out of the hospital tank (rip) do not get any type of dottyback. I will be selling mine just as soon as he's done on the QT tank.
