  1. I do really like the seascape background too, wouldn't hurt to buy it. I think it's smart to go with something that's not as permanent as paint to begin with in case we don't like whatever we decide on. Definitely leaning towards tint or some type of cling background.
  2. I've never seen a white background, but googled it and they do make everything look super clean. Definitely something to think about! The mirror idea is cool too, never even crossed my mind. I've looked into the shadow boxes and they are really cool, you're right about the plumbing though, might be an issue. I'm thinking too, what if we do an opaque/textured tint and hang some LED's behind the tank for a back lighting effect. Or maybe even use rope lighting around the tank border in the back. Not as cool as a shadow box, but I do really like the pics I've seen with the light coming through the back of the tank. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
  3. Awesome tank! really loving all of the videos
  4. That's actually a pretty cool setup, and at the end of the day it works? Then it's not dumb at all. My 92 corner is set up weird like that. I have a 15 gal That the DT drains into, Goes through 3 Chambers to the Mag 9. Where it tees (before going back to the DT) Going into an 11 Gal fuge, Then Gravity drains back to the return chamber. So, Would you have done anything different? Am I shooting to high @ 100-125 Sump? or could I use 75-90 And be fine?
  5. Got it. If you don't mind me asking, what size is your sump and what size bulkheads did you go with?
  6. Ok, I was mixed up About the quantity/turnover going through the sump. I was thinking that 5x the sump volume(500-600) was sufficent. But I need 5x the total volume (1500) going through the sump, and the higher rates(4500+) in The DT will be done by the powerheads.
  7. Just to be clear I will be running a fuge. We are Planning a 100-125 sump as well. So, should I be looking to turn over the sump 3-5x and leave the "Big" turnover rates to the powerheads in the DT? So If I'm Understanding you... Your Mag is capable of 5x turnover of your DT. However, you don't have that much going through the sump?
  8. Oh is there? we'd definitely like to look into that. Would you mind pm'ing the link over to me?
  9. I really like the shadow box idea - awesome! It really looks like you're looking into the ocean, it's amazing!
  10. Interesting idea - I like it! My husband suggested something along the lines of the color of coralline algae, but I don't like the idea of a solid coralline colored background. This could work. I'll run it by him and see what he thinks. Thanks!
  11. Cool I'll check eBay. Thanks again
  12. Got it. Now the last question.. best place to get a BA overflow that will accommodate 1.5 bulkheads? Or just get one of the 16-1800 gph and drill my own holes? Most everything I'm seeing only come pre fabbed for 1"
  13. yea, seems like it's hit or miss.
  14. Thanks for the response. I'm def considering the bean animal. Any thoughts on the Herbie set up? Also, with the bean animal, does the emergency have to be 1.5" also?
  15. Great, thank you! I'll check it out
  16. I have seen of different opinions on this one.. Some say the GPH should be 5x the total water volume, some say 10x and i have even heard 20x? Would really like some input on this one. I will be drilling my 225 soon and we will have approx 300 gallons in total water volume. As usual, all opinions are welcome.
  17. We currently have an ASM G3 skimmer - it works like a boss on our 92 gallon corner. I know it's rated for up to 250 gallons, so I think we would be pushing it trying to use it on the 225 upgrade. HOWEVER, what if we upgraded to the Sedra 9000 for better performance? Will it work with the G3 or will this be overkill? I've done a little bit of research on this, and a lot of folks are asking about it, but it doesn't look like many have actually tried it. Has anyone heard of this being done successfully? If not, maybe we will try it, maybe we will just upgrade to the G4+. Thoughts?
  18. I've noticed for the most part, that people paint the backs of their tanks black or blue. I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with different colors of backgrounds on their tanks. My husband is on team black and I'm on team blue, but I'm thinking, why not purple? I'd like to use something other than black to add more depth, but it doesn't necessarily have to be blue. Has anyone tried any different colors that made the colors in their tank pop? Any thoughts?
  19. +1 - top off with saltwater. You don't want to raise the salinity too quickly.
  20. So my husband and I went out on a limb last week and picked up a used 225 gallon tank that needed to be resealed. We scraped it down and re-siliconed it on Tuesday. We're now at about 24 hours of the leak test, and so far so good - no leaks! We'll leave the water in for a couple more days before draining and getting to work on drilling, installing overflows, plumbing, etc. We have a lot of work to do and need to upgrade quite a bit of equipment before we're up an running. We currently have a 92 gallon corner, along with a 55 gallon which we'll be combining into the 1 tank. Oh and then there is the 18 gallon nano that we have plumbed in as a fuge. We'll be plumbing that into the 225 also because I really like watching the smaller fish and inverts in their own little world. We will have a fuge in our sump though, so this will just be for me, because I want it. We'll be on the lookout for a decent used tank to set up for the sump and will be adding the baffles ourselves. We will be plumbing into our garage, so there will be plenty of space for everything. We CANNOT wait for this after the pain of trying to fit everything under the stand of a 92 gallon corner tank!! The garage is temperature controlled, so we won't have to worry about using a chiller in the summertime either, which is nice. A 100 long would be preferable for our sump, because of the ideal height, but from what I've seen they're pretty hard to come by, so we'll see how that goes. We've done this before, and the first time went very smoothly, so we're hoping for the same results here. Either way, any and all insight is welcome and appreciated!! Anyways, stand by, we'll post pictures and updates as we go, and will be posting questions in the general discussion forum as needed. ~Rebekah
  21. thank you - checking them out now!
  22. Nice build! very well planned and executed.
  23. Yea, I noticed that too. I was just wondering if there was some Chaeto locally. I think for the more exotic types, I will use an online resource.
