Squishie's 90

Recommended Posts

This is my first tank that I started in September 2012. I originally planned on it being a FOWLR and some inverts tank, but after I got some free corals and they did great in my tank, I decided to do corals as well. It has been a huge undertaking for me but I love it and love the hobby/addiction of saltwater.

My tank is still a 90g with a 30L sump (10g ATO resoiver).
~70-80lbs live rock (however the fake reef may be "live" now and that would put it close to 90-100lbs)

1 Large insert from instantreef.com
ReefOctopus XP1000SSS Skimmer
Reef Angel controller
2 koralia powerheads
250 watt heater
Pondmaster Mag Drive Pump PM 9.5
Just started using reef crystals instead of regular IO
1 14k reef spectrum buildmyled.com LED light, 48" with 60% lenses
1 actinic buildmyled.com LED light, 48" with 60% lenses
1-2 battery operated air stones that come on when the power goes out
Filter Direct RD102 5 stage RODI water filtration
15g QT set up

Current inhabitants;
Fish;
2 clownfish; 1 snowflake, 1 black and white
1 tribal blenny
1 gumdrop coral croucher
1 randalls goby
1 blue mandarin

Inverts;
1 pom pom crab
1 blue porcelain crab (Have not seen her since I put her in though)
~15+ hermits

~150+ snails

1 tiger pistol shrimp
1 fire shrimp
5-6 sexy shrimp

1 female fiddler crab (Have not seen her since I put her in though)

Corals;
1 purple tip frogspawn
9+ pink candy canes
1 orange plate
1 rainbow plate
1 blue/purple with green tentacles plate

1 maroon/purple plate with green rim and center
1 colt coral
2 polyp duncan

Red and pink acan
Purple Ricordea (2 polyps)
Pastel Ricordea (2-3 polyps)
baseball sized Flowerpot (green skirt with red center)
1 little itty bitty purple with blue mushroom

Large galaxea colony

The rest of my planned fish stock list is;
2 dragonface pipefish
1 purple tang
1 coral beauty
1 copperband butterfly

I will update this week with pictures of my tank and the inhabitants.

How do you like the coral croucher? It's my new favorite fish.... But not sure if I want to put on in in the 150g when I get it up....

This reply is going to be a lot longer than I am sure you anticipated and I apologize for that.

I love this guy. He so cute and although shy, brings me a lot of joy. From MY experience, this fish requires a lot of personal care. If you are someone who just wants to throw 3 pinches of pellets in the tank and walk away, it will not work with this guy. I have "trained" my gumdrop to be in a specific area for feeding time, and he needs to be fed a piece of brine or mysis about every 10 seconds or so, the bigger the piece requires more time for him to get it down. He prefers food to be in the water and not sitting to eat it, but sometimes he will pick up food. He will shoot out from his area a few inches to grab food, but he will ignore it if it is too far away for him. My gumdrop has the added stress that he lives in my clownfishes's territory which the female is not happy about and will try and attack him. But the gumdrop is small enough to fit in places the female clown cannot get to. So he kind of has to watch his back during feeding. I have seen videos where gumdrops make their homes in weird places like the back of a powerhead. They can swim, just not well. So this is a spot feeding required fish. I do not mind (most days =P) as he is a great joy. I originally purchased a bonded pair, but the female died in QT I believe due to internal parasites and/or starvation (she would not eat). But the male did well. To me, he is the closest reef safe fish to an angler/frogfish you can get. They have almost the same build, just much smaller (and no lure). So this fish is not for everyone. I would be concerned about one in a 150 just due to the size of the tank and the amount of hiding places. When I first put mine in, he hid in some bad places that there was no way for me to get food to him. I have a lot of open rockwork though so I was able to find him. Do remember this fish in 1.5-2" long.

Looks great. Good choice on the ReefAngel :) let me know if you needed any assistance coding something particular.

Thank you so much! I get by, but just barely XD. Helps that my Dad works in that sort of thing. I actually just got a custom cable so I could connect my lights to the RA and have the ability to dim them, so I may be looking into more LED dimming code at some point.

Thanks for the info on the coral croucher!

Everything looks really nice!

And just an FYI...candy canes are LPS...

Yes I know, I forgot to edit it as I changed it to a different picture, thank you though.

Thank you everyone for the compliments! I am hoping by the end of the year/early next year to have the tank fully stocked with planned fish. Not going to be too many more corals so they have room to grow. And always room for more inverts =P
