Swimmatte's First Saltwater Tank

Nice job!

Question...how's the six line in terms of jumping? Any issues w/ your tank and particularly the egg crate being able to hold them in? Thanks.

I haven't had any issues with jumping.  The six line pretty much just constantly swims in and out of caves in the lower half of the tank.  I'm not sure I've ever even seen it break the mid-tank mark.  I love that fish..............

that is going to be gorgeous! looking forward to watching it grow too! When you have a great plan like that it allows you to sit back and enjoy and only make additions with a coral that you really love vs just throwing everything in there that someone is selling at a good price....

you haven't drilled that thing yet? lol...chop chop...its not like she is 18....you can just put her somewhere and she stays LOL....and NAPS

She stays???? She NEVER stays :) and she rarely naps!

I guess I could duct tape her to a chair?

So.......I have a little problem.  My sump doesn't fit in my stand, as it's about 1/2" too tall.  There's a shelf about 8" from the top of the actual stand.

The way I see it, I have three options:

1. Either ditch the shelf completely, or figure out a way to move it a few inches higher.

2. Chop off the top few inches of the acrylic sump.

3. Sell the sump and buy a different one.

Below are the issues with each of the above listed options:

1. Moving or getting rid of the shelf may alter the structural integrity of the stand and will also kill some of my already limited storage area.

2. This would eliminate some of my buffer in case of a power outage and I would be putting myself in much more risk of flooding.  Also, I guess I'd have to worry slightly about the structural integrity of the sump.

3. This sump layout is perfect for my stand as it is a tall and wide like my stand, however it isn't deep which allows me to continue to utilize storage.

Thoughts?

I say ditch the shelf...you can always run some stringers where the shelf was to keep the stand square, or if you are able to jig out the part that is in the way of the sump leaving the shelf in the back part to still use...

Do you have a pic of the inside of the stand?

Got a reefs2go order today that included some CUC, two pistol shrimp, and some candy apples zoas, which have already been added but the best part about today is that I'm on my way home with some goodies from Gadgets tank........

I think I need a 12 step program.

I think I'm going to frame out the top of the inside of the stand with 2x4's or something then chop out half of the shelf where the sump needs to go. I'm going to call marineland to see if the shelf has any actual structural purpose.

After thinking about this a little more during the bumper to bumper traffic that im in, I think I'm going to modify the sump, not the stand.

I only need to remove about 1" off the top to make it work, which would be unused space anyways. The truth is, if my sump is going to overflow, an inch isn't going to matter. Plus, I plan on drilling a 1" hole about two inches from the top of the sump and run a hose from there to a little 2 gallon jug, which will protect me in the event of an overflow.

Added a Pink/Purple Torch with Green center that I picked up from Gadgets today, along with a couple different zoas.  Here are some more shots I took today.  These pics will help give an idea as to what I'm looking to do with my corner rock zoa garden.  It obviously will take a while to grow out, but it should be pretty cool in a year or two.

Once everything grows out it'll be awesome! I'm trying to do the same thing with my zoas.
