Bobby March 14, 2013 March 14, 2013 So i am new to DC and i am just wondering if there are any stores in DC that i cna visit and purchase Saltwater Fish/Corals. If anyone knows any it would be a great help. Thanks so much Bobby
jamal March 14, 2013 March 14, 2013 there are no SW fish stores in DC. they are all in MD and VA. I have been to quantum reef (store front in progress), BRK, Dr. Mac's, aquarium one, and find and feathers. all of these stores are worth a visit IMO. havent been to them all yet just spoke on the ones i know.
PotomacBoater March 14, 2013 March 14, 2013 under "about wamas" in the upper left toolbar is our "Local Fish Store Map" All the stores are on there. If you are a Wamas Member, you can read about Vendor Experiences to see what stores people like and don't like (any local fish store is worth at least a visit to make your own opinion - bad ones close very quickly)
Coral Hind March 14, 2013 March 14, 2013 Welcome to the area and to our site! If you become a paid member you will have access to our member's only area where there is a for sale, trade, and free section as well as a group buy section. I think most members agree the $20 membership is well it.
brad908 March 15, 2013 March 15, 2013 Pristine aquariums in Alexandria is probably the closest. It is okay. Aquarium one would be the second closest. One of my favorites
hypertech March 15, 2013 March 15, 2013 Quantum Reefs I think will be the place when they open. If you are new to the area but not the hobby, check out Roozens too. It's not a place I would send a newbie to though.

I think most members agree the $20 membership is well it. As a noob myself, the support/local community/freebies/deals/KNOWLEDGE is nothing after the $20 membership, you'll never look back. There is a group meet coming up, and if you're not a member, that's already a 1/4 of the price to come. For me, membership paid off in less than 48 hours, I would strongly urge you to consider it. What is your location, that would better help us find what's closest to you.
swimmatte March 15, 2013 March 15, 2013 +1 for joining WAMAS and reading up on peoples experiences. I have had good experiences so far at Aquarium One in Rockville. Also, the deals you can get from fellow members sometimes are incredible.
PK3 March 15, 2013 March 15, 2013 +1 on joining WAMAS. Just to give you an example, I was about to buy a reefbreeders LED fixture for $449 retail from their website, but joined in on the group buy here and got it for $319. I would say paying the $20 to save $130 is well worth it! Is Vienna Aquarium still open? I happened to drive by that area (not looking for fish stuff) and didn't see it there.
DBL March 15, 2013 March 15, 2013 +1 on joining WAMAS. I wish I would have joined when I was putting my tank together I would have save a ton of $$$ plus there is a wealth of knowledge here and people are always willing to help if someone has a question.

PK3 March 15, 2013 March 15, 2013 they move to Leesburg and it's a nightmare advice is never to enter and certainly not purchase livestock Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 Yeah, I remember walking in there once a few years ago and being a bit concerned about the health of the livestock. I was just driving by and didn't see it anymore. Would be nice to have a reputable fish store in the downtown Vienna area though. Too bad the store wasn't that great to begin with anyways.
Bobby March 15, 2013 Author March 15, 2013 Thanks for all the help guys! Just wondering y are there no fish stores in the district? Is it just not profitable to do so? I will most likely join the site when I get my first pay check! Thanks again
Origami March 15, 2013 March 15, 2013 Hi Bobby. Click on the link in my signature for more info about the benefits of membership. So, where are you from anyway? It sounds like you're just getting settled in.

I will most likely join the site when I get my first pay check! Thanks again I doubt it's profitable to have a fish store in DC. This area is difficult because the cost of real estate is so high and you generally need a lot of space. I imagine the DC government is difficult to work with from a regulatory stand point as well (as they are with everything else) but that's just speculation on my part.
Bobby March 15, 2013 Author March 15, 2013 Hi Bobby. Click on the link in my signature for more info about the benefits of membership. So, where are you from anyway? It sounds like you're just getting settled in. Just I have been here for about 4 months now an moved from VA Beach. I used to work in a aquarium store in VB part time. I had a 300 gallon shark tank and a 120 gallon reef tank. I sold both of them and got myself a 75 gallon which is my reef tank and a 55 that I have plans for to be a FOWLR. I have been to pristine aquariums and was not impressed. Saw some sickly fish and the selection was small. I also went to Tropical Lagoon and I liked their store but OMG were they over priced and a small selection. It's was cheaper to buy online an pay the 34$ for shipping and get a guarantee .. Look forward to bring part of your community and home to meet great people. Thanks for making me feel welcome. Here is my 75 gallon. Have added much more since this picture. This was just what I was able to bring with me.
