AlanM November 20, 2013 Author November 20, 2013 Very pretty anemone! I love them! Your so ontop of everything...don't think you'll have any problem with it...unless it settles somewhere you don't like So I spoke too soon. I had the lights out for a day to let the new fish settle in and now the nem moved up the rocks and is sitting right next to the hammer, frogspawn, and clownfish. In a battle between anemone and hammer coral, who will win? The coral is much easier to move than the nem, but the clowns will be pissed if I put that hammer on the bottom. When the lights are up at full the hammer and the frogspawn are twice that size. The nem is about the same. The fish are all doing great. It seems like a totally different tank with the chromis in there who are much much more active than the other fish and are swimming in all the water which the others don't really do.
sachabballi reef November 20, 2013 November 20, 2013 the nem wlll win...but give it a bit and see if that is where it settles before you move the coral...Its just searching for light and flow it likes...once mine have settled in they never move, but unfortunately do grow and stretch so I get forced to move everything because of that.....

Right. I still need to play with the flow a bit which will probably cause it to move again. I have the powerheads off still because the two cardinals are sitting under one of them and I don't want to freak them out yet. Cardinals: And three chromis and everyone else:
YHSublime November 20, 2013 November 20, 2013 It's welcome to camp on a coral if it wants. It's sitting on some little zoas in the picture above. 8) This should have been the post you quoted From my understanding, nem will always win, but I agree with Jenn, let it work itself out first, just keep an eye out for powerheads and overflows.
AlanM November 20, 2013 Author November 20, 2013 This should have been the post you quoted From my understanding, nem will always win, but I agree with Jenn, let it work itself out first, just keep an eye out for powerheads and overflows. That's true, that's what I was referring to. I'll leave it alone for now because it will probably keep moving for a bit.
lnevo November 21, 2013 November 21, 2013 Why would you want the clowns to stay with the hammer now that you have a nem...in the long runs the clowns should prefer the nem and your hammer will be happy to not be bothered by the clowns. Turn on the powerheads...the fish will deal there is plenty of flow in the ocean.... Should not be a concern.
AlanM November 21, 2013 Author November 21, 2013 For the moment the hammer is of a size to deal with clown love, but the nem can probably handle them soon. The clowns often drag food back to their hammer coral home and spit it out, which i assume they are doing for the hosts benefit. The powerheads are all on for the past few hours. The banggais are still hanging out under the one pictured above. They seem much more skittish and less exploratory than the chromis.
sachabballi reef November 21, 2013 November 21, 2013 i love when my clown feeds its nems....its an amazing thought really for the clown, it decides which it will eat and which it will feed its nems...It warms my heart lol
sachabballi reef November 21, 2013 November 21, 2013 cardinals really aren't swimmers...they kinda just hang out in corners and hover...so don't be expecting them to move much...they kinda go up and down but not over much lol
AlanM December 9, 2013 Author December 9, 2013 A quick tank update. My cardinals have discovered their personalities. They're all over the tank now. The foxface is a super fast grower. About an inch larger than when I got him from djplus1. Also, Dmitri got him to take care of some bubble algae. I left one little bubble in my tank to see what would happen and he must have gotten it because it's gone. It would have been hard to get out anyway. I also got a beautiful flame angel from Marco last week which is also all over the tank. It's really fun to watch. After some initial agression where the foxface was going after the angel with his spines they seem to be ok with each other now. They even eat from the feeding ring together. He also eats hair algae from the sandbed in one spot where it grows and is teaching the foxface to do it too. I think that's about it for fish aside from maybe a small bottom sitter like blenny or goby eventually. Here's a little video of everyone (with octonauts on in the background):
Orion December 9, 2013 December 9, 2013 Alan, The tank looks great. I really like it with no screen top too....
AlanM December 9, 2013 Author December 9, 2013 Alan, The tank looks great. I really like it with no screen top too.... Thanks. I love the rimless tank too. I'd love some of the colorful little things like a wrasse or firefish but don't want the top covered. So far I've only gotten a plastic ball, a paper airplane, and two stinkbugs in the tank.
sachabballi reef December 9, 2013 December 9, 2013 excellent tank alan!! looking forward to it growing out....all the fish have suddenly added so much life and color!

My goal is to have it look like this I'll second what Jenn said. The Foxface and Flame Angel both a lot of color and personality to your tank. Great combo.
monkiboy December 9, 2013 December 9, 2013 they're like best buds now, nice. they both introduce some great color and movement for certain. thanks for the share this morning, sir!
Cliff Puckstable December 9, 2013 December 9, 2013 sweetness. I gotta come check out your tank some time.
AlanM December 10, 2013 Author December 10, 2013 excellent tank alan!! looking forward to it growing out....all the fish have suddenly added so much life and color! I am looking forward to it growing out too. Praying nightly to the god of colored sticks to make mine grow. Something is using alk even though it doesn't use Ca, so something is happening. I've still not been dosing Ca at all and the levels stay constant. /shrug Looks great, Alan. Thanks for sharing! Thanks, Isaac. I'm going to work on my screen top this week since ill be keeping jumpers. My goal is to have it look like this I'll second what Jenn said. The Foxface and Flame Angel both a lot of color and personality to your tank. Great combo. I was nervous about that flame angel, but I really like him now. Marco had him so healthy in his tank that he settled right in and got to eating. Tank looks awesome. Thanks! they're like best buds now, nice. they both introduce some great color and movement for certain. thanks for the share this morning, sir! I saw the foxface get tired of him once today and start at him sideways, so not quite best buds, but at least not enemies. 8) sweetness. I gotta come check out your tank some time. Come on down. You're one of the closest guys to me. You can help me squirt kalk into some aptasia if the peppermints I want to add don't do the job.
AlanM December 10, 2013 Author December 10, 2013 that sounds like fun. Well, you can also see the mad scientist sump I have in progress.
YHSublime December 10, 2013 December 10, 2013 Well, you can also see the mad scientist sump I have in progress. Just let the tank sell itself, Alan, next thing you know you'll be eating cyclopeze and encouraging people to sculpt unicorns out of their skimmer poo
AlanM December 10, 2013 Author December 10, 2013 Well, I did try some cyclopeeze and was amazed at how silky soft and stink free my skimmer poo was this afternoon. Also, I never posted this, but I started this tank cycling by peeing in it. Not just a little either. I really had to go. Haha. I'm like human sandpaper in training. Just let the tank sell itself, Alan, next thing you know you'll be eating cyclopeze and encouraging people to sculpt unicorns out of their skimmer poo
AlanM December 14, 2013 Author December 14, 2013 I'm playing with my Avast smartphone porthole and got a nice picture, I think, which shows lots of stuff in the tank. The anemone I got from QR as a little guy keeps getting bigger and adding more green. It is about 2 inches across when open so still kind of little. I give it a squirt of the Roggers or Rods once a week that I give to everyone else in the tank. The aussie hammer I got from AA/IC is doing well. The clowns barely leave it, but it expands to be huge during the day. I think they'd rather it didn't close up at night. It gets about 5 inches across. The small acro just to the left of center is one I'm really interested in. It's from copps and he called it "Bella's Acro" and tossed it in as a freebie in the last big frag buy I did from him. It has pink flesh and is encrusting in kind of a lime green color over the glue to the left. At least I think that's green flesh and not algae, heh.
