Ok so I want to see what is the best carbon to run in my system....so checking to see what everyone is running and how often they change the carbon in there tank.....

(edited)

ive been hearing a lot of good things about it.!

Same here, I am going to buy a bunch soon...I may set up a group buy in the members area.

If we order 9 of the small size (or fewer of the larger sizes), we get free shipping and 6-11% off...

well how good is the carbon from avast...it is half the cost of what brs charges for a 5 gallon bucket....

It's not Rox 0.8 from Reef Choice that Avast sells, it's lignite carbon and the price is comparable to BRS. I'd buy the stuff from Reef Choice since he's in Alexandria and you can get up to at least a 5 gallon bucket if you want but it's a trip for me. It Filter Fine Aquatics that packages it is dschflier here on WAMAS, just send him a PM if you want to get some from him.

was woundering bout avast, the difference in there carbon and brs if any....avast is only 30 min from me....

The Reef Choice carbon is a more traditional, granular form of lignite carbon. It's high quality - lignite is your best choice of all traditional carbons, but it does need some rinsing before using it as it has a lot of dust (which is not unusual for GAC). The Rox 0.8 carbon from BRS is a very small (emphasize very) extruded (formed) carbon. Like a lot of extruded carbon, it doesn't require as much rinsing. It is very small, though - kind of like little splinters. It fluidizes under very little flow, and if you're not careful and don't have a pad or something in to block it, it's easy to run it right out of your reactor if your flow rate is too high. Because ROX is so small, though, it has very, very high contact area with the moving water. This allows it to pull organics from the water very quickly for a given amount of material - which also will deplete it quickly if there's a lot to be pulled out. This can be desirable in certain circumstances, such as emergencies.

Ok, I think I will go with the avast carbon in a five gallon bucket, now I just need them to get back in touch with me....have emailed them thru there web site just need to get a response
