here it is, pics taken at 9pm :)

see the big nub in the middle? that's the original single polyp. this is about 7-8 months worth of growth. percentage wise, I would say it has grown over 10x, maybe even 20x. that say that's pretty good growth, would love my other big colonies to grow that fast.

That's awesome!

very awesome.

so who's going to take a BIG frag of something branchy and try this method?

That looks great, Ha. It's grown a lot and looks like it's started to form a few axial coralites as well. It won't be long before it starts branching, I'll bet. In fact, I think I see the nubs of new coralites on some of the early branches.

what's something branchy?

i just meant something that would allow a large frag to still have a narrow enough base to insert into the flower plug.

Nice growth rate! I would check that frag and your other corals closely as it looks like it has red bugs.

Hmm ok.

Imagine what the growth rate would without the parasites.

Oh my.... I need interceptor, don't I?

Edited by hlem

Yes, I would get some interceptor.

Also, it looks like you have hydroids on the plug which can limit the outer growth spread of the coral's base. You might want to remove them too.

Thanks I'll give that a try. But I'll eventually need to treat the whole tank as I have a few colonies attached to rocks. But seems to be okay tho. I'll check tonight to see if those have the bugs as well.

And hydroids are just the algae, right? I do have some algae in the frag tank that I pull out once in awhile.

Hydroids.png

Hydroids are the stringy translucent things seen here growing off of the left bottom side of the plug as pictured.

Updates?

Haven't had a chance to go get the bayer, maybe this weekend. I did clear put the hydroids manually.

I was cleaning up some corals this weekend and fragging some zoas. I also have a frag of purple monster that is suffering from STN. I've fragged it several time but it keeps STNing.

So I took one the remaining pieces that wasn't looking so good and cut off two individual polyps. I just superglued them to a plug.

We'll see what happens.

ok, light was still on, so went ahead and took a shot. almost lost it in a tank move,  pathetic for a year's worth of growth =( grew like 2in and only 1-2 branches... but shouldnt expect much as i was neglecting my tank for a longgg time :(

That's really good. The first one looks a lot like some of the single polyps / tiny cluster of polyps I grew out over the last several months (I wasn't counting, but it was probably 6 or so). I got the same sort of result: Encrusting out to the side, then down the rubber cap, then new axial polyps (future branches) coming out along the corner where the cap turns changes direction. When the coral gets as far down on the rubber cap as it does, it soon becomes tough to get the cap off the tube without cracking the encrusted coral. Not a huge problem since you can just glue down the pieces onto a piece of rubble. Now that you've got some branching, maybe you should consider moving it to a more permanent location.

i think i'm going to leave it there for now, until it colors back up. its been doing well at that spot, polyps always out and such, colored back up from pale brown.  i might just break it off the tube since the encrusted part is already dead.
