treesprite August 29, 2010 August 29, 2010 There is a shell-less hermit crab upside down in a little hole in the side of the rock, and a shrimp will not let him out to find a shell (keeps trying to eat the crab). I tried holding a shell up to the crab for a while (with 3 different shells), but the most the crab would do before my arm got too tired, was put the tip of a leg over the edge of the shell. I was going to superglue a couple shells by the crab then break off once the crab went in one, but I can't get any to stick on a vertical face.
roni August 29, 2010 August 29, 2010 pull the shrimp out and put it in a separate container and then put some shells by the hermit?
FearTheTerps August 29, 2010 August 29, 2010 can you place a container around the hermit and the shell to keep them away from the shrimp?
treesprite August 30, 2010 Author August 30, 2010 Can't put anything in front of him - it's a vertical face. I can only put shells above or below. He's still in there, so the shrimp must not be picking on him constantly anymore. It would be impossible to take the two shrimp out of the tank. I didn't even know there was a hermit left in the tank - I thought I got them all into the refugium.
jason the filter freak August 30, 2010 August 30, 2010 put a net over said hole with some shells in it prop it just right, most nets you can bend the edges some you could "form" it to the rock, go from there ehy
Origami August 30, 2010 August 30, 2010 Build a wall with plumbers putty or duct seal, drop in a few shells for the hermit to pick from, and cover temporarily with some gutter guard, plastic mesh, or the like, to allow light and flow to get to the area. When the hermit occupies his new home, just peel away the fortress. Either that, or let nature take it's course. This is a scenario that I'm sure has been played out many times before.
treesprite August 30, 2010 Author August 30, 2010 I don't see it anymore - I hope it made its way to a shell.
