Sharkey18 March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 So this is Darwin: and this is my mp10 after 20 min. alone with Darwin. So I spent the hundred bucks and ordered a new dry side, but once I hooked it up, I still get no power. Is there a trick to starting it back up? Laura
Valeria March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 Hi Laura, Can't help you with starting the mP10 but Darwin is awesome!!! I've always wanted a too but have my hands full with my other birds.
Stephen March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 Honestly I'd call Ecotech in the morning. Their support ime is top notch.
Sharkey18 March 25, 2010 Author March 25, 2010 LOL, Thanks klok... Valeria, he's an awesome bird.... and I will be calling customer support.... Laura
Coral Hind March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 Don't throw that damaged dry side out. I could probably splice that back together with about 50 wire nuts and a few rolls of tape.
lanman March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 I've found most of my dry side problems are wet side problems. Make sure the wet side is spinning freely, make sure it is aligned exactly, make sure you have the right 'spacer' setting on the dry side. bob
Coral Hind March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 Did you get a new power supply with the replacement dry side? The old one might have fried.
zygote2k March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 you can still use the old dryside. the wires can be spliced back together and new connections can be made. FWIW, I've never had problems with the drysides- it's always been the wet. How did the bird get to the fishtank in the first place?
Sharkey18 March 25, 2010 Author March 25, 2010 The bird is fully flighted... no wing feathers clipped. He just flys around the house when I am home, and several times I have found him DRINKING the salt water. Usually he is right with me but this time he slipped away and caused the damage. He's a quick little bugger. The dry side piece I received had the dry side and the cord that goes into the blue controller box. I opened up the box, hooked up the connection to the new dry side, but the controller doesn't get any power. So Dave might be right that in the process of the physical destruction the circuit board get fried.... Unfortunately this isn't the only electrical cord the bird has gotten to. he's gotten to be fried chicken if he doesn't quit it! Laura
Charlie March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 You could always train him not to chew on wires with a little low voltage running through the wire. HVAC transformers are 24 volts. Enough to poke him, but not enough to knock any feathers out.
Origami March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 Laura, have you tried sending those pictures to Ecotech? It might help them figure out what you need. It pretty much looks like you may need a new cable between the two units. Of course, there may be some other damage with the controller but they can help you with that. Nice cockatoo. Citron?
firerbta March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 wow he flies around your house destoring things:) he sounds like a wonderful pet! Maybe you can train him... ferrets and guinepigs do the same thing I was thinking putting something that he doesn't like on the wires like applespray...
zygote2k March 25, 2010 March 25, 2010 time to clip those flight feathers. I used to have a Yellow Naped Amazon and he lived on a perch, but I kept his flight feathers trimmed so he didn't accidentally get out. I've known several people throughout the years that have had their birds fly away simply because they didn't clip. Sulphur Crest?
Sharkey18 March 26, 2010 Author March 26, 2010 Wow, you guys know you're birds. He is a lesser sulphur crested citron cockatoo. Thanks for all the help! Laura
