bbyatv March 15, 2010 March 15, 2010 I won a bag of white crystals at either the Summer or Fall meeting of 09. I think they are magnesium chloride. Maybe calcium chloride. Can you remeber what items you may have donated to the club for the raffle? Or maybe I could describe the structure of the crystals and you might know what they are? If you can tell what they are, could you let me know? Here are a couple of pics of the stuff: Thanks, Bruce
Origami March 15, 2010 March 15, 2010 Those are mag chloride pellets. I provided several 50# bags of the stuff (DSW Mag Pellet) to Phil a while back.
zygote2k March 16, 2010 March 16, 2010 taste test- if it's mg, and you eat too much, you'll get the sh-ts...
Chad March 16, 2010 March 16, 2010 From the Dow flake MSDS... Ingestion: Low toxicity material but ingestion may cause serious irritation of the mucous membrane due to heat of hydrolysis. Large amounts can cause gastrointestinal upset, vomiting, abdominal pain. Sounds like the taste test may work... not sure I would try it though as either will have you running to the bathroom... its just a matter of what you do when you get there!
Grav March 17, 2010 March 17, 2010 (edited) Thanks Rob, you really class up the place. Yes, it is Mag Chlor. Yes I got it from Tom. Yes I'm looking for more already. What was it Tom, 5 or 6 bags? Lasted a year and a half? Edited March 17, 2010 by Grav

Lasted a year and a half? It was something like that, Phil. Only a year and a half - wow. I kept two bags and have yet to finish the first one completely off. The second is standing by. I'm sure that my buddy's gone through all of the 25 or so tons of the stuff that he had back then. We had quite a winter this year. It definitely made up for the warm one that we had the year before, so he made a little money off of it with his snow removal service. Someday we'll have to get a big flatbed and make a run up to Harveys Salt in Baltimore....
