Ca reactor pH

I re-did my Ca reactor and am still using GenX media.

I'm curious:

What media do you use?

What pH do you keep the reactor pH set to?

Do you use a controller to do so?

Do you have it set to a drip (# pm) or stream?

How often do you test tank Alk and what do you shoot for?

Same media as you :)

pH about 6.7

No controller (pH probe is broken)

Fast stream

Alk test bi-weekly or 3rd weekly, aim for about 9 DKH

GEN-X CRM (coarse);

pH 6.7; controller;

recently cut back to 100 ml per hour (delivery by peristaltic pump) or around 35 drops per minute, but will have to adjust this upward soon I'm sure. Augmented by kalkwasser.

I try to maintain alkalinty at 10-11 dKH, though I was running a bit higher than this a couple of weeks ago, hence the cut back.

Testing when I feel the need - probably weekly, but every once in a while it's 2 weeks between tests.

Chip,

I use the GenX stuff as well.

I keep the pH at 6.5 to 6.6 and use a controller to do so. I do have the needle valve set so that if the solonoid sticks open, the pH will not go below about 6.0 in the reactor.

I have the reactor on a Masterflex Pump Drive 7520-00 that is set to pump 13 ml/min (4.95 gal/day) through the reactor

This ends up being a steady drip.

I also run a Kalk stirrer to try and offset the low pH coming out of the Calcium reactor.

I run my kalk stirrer with a dosing pump as well and have it set to deliver 3.3 ml/min (1.27 gal/day)

All of this keeps my 90g tank at a pH of 8.1 in the morning and 8.3 at the end of the day.

My Alk is at 10.0, Calc at 430, and Mg at 1320. (I have to dose a little Mg to keep it up)

I test all of my water parameters every Friday morning and then do a 10% water change every Saturday morning.

1. all my dead corals from AEFW! (or genex while I still have leftover

2. 6.6

3. yes, stand alone not AC3

4. fast drip effluent

5. only test every couple when first setting up and when media gets to get around 1/2.

then again, my tank looks horrile right now...

3. Yes, ACIII, turns on/off CO2 and pump to stop drip into tank for safety

4. fast drip/ breaking stream

5. maybe every month or so, between 9-12dKH

Inspired by this thread, I decided to check alkalinity, which was 4.9 mEq/l (14 dKH)! Ca is 400. Not a crisis yet, but will increase the internal pH a little.
