tranceFusion March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 I purchased 2 rics from a member here. Being in Frederick I am a good hike from most of you folks and we were unable to find a time that worked for both of us for pickup. A decision was made to have the corals shipped. The seller told me to paypal ASAP so that he could hold the rics for me before people came for pickup, which I did. The next day however, the seller said that a buyer the night before had wanted my rics and he had sold them to the person, but that he had shipped out to me two rics that he was planning to keep and were much better than the originals he was originally going to ship to me. The problem was, when the rics arrived, I got what I believe to be one acceptable ric and one bleached out ric. The seller insists that he sent me a "rare color morph". I feel the cost of the ric and half of the shipping should be refunded to me. I told the seller that I would go buy heatpacks, etc. and ship the ric back to him if he paid the fedex ground actual cost. Here are pics of the ric.. is it bleached out? or a rare color morph? And assuming I am right, do you feel the seller should be obligated to refund money, especially considering he sent something different than we agreed upon? Thanks for the input. I hope I don't appear to be a huge jerk but I don't appreciate being screwed over either.
shawns March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 (edited) i think they are both p'ed from the trip and you should give them time. i think he should have sent you what the 2 of you agreed upon, but maybe these are better? if you're unhappy, the best way that i think that you could "get even" is not to get anything from that person again! please watch the language. im not offended, but some maybe and we all try to keep wamas a family show. vaironman March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 Does not appear to be in too bad shape from the shipping trip. I would give it a week. If your tank has stable water quality, feed them some mysis shrimp, they should recover in better shape for you. Not sure about the rare morph. Someone with more experiences in ricordea color chime in later to help you on opinions.
OrientBlueReef March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 Looks like it could quite possibly be from shipping. Most people around here are pretty honest. I doubt somebody would purposely ship you a bleached ric, but I obviously can't say for sure...just my experience. Give them some time and you will be better able to tell what is going on. The way they have contorted themselves is consistent with stress (likely from shipping). Good luck.
jason the filter freak March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 (edited) Under shipping conditions rics and other corals will often loose all their symbiotic algae which is what gives them their color. If you have good water quality and other corals in the tank they have a good chance of recovering. I'd watch your language on the board, I've been "talked to" over less. gastone March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 man, how did the filter not catch that? edited... guess you gotta add that one to the database.
gmubeach March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 Wow thats terrible luck matie... thats why I never ship anything unless its from a reprable dealer:) Anyway please keep the server child friendly.. and yea I understand your frustration he sold your coral from underneath you and then sent you a diffrent coral then was agreed upon..... the oddest thing though if its not bleached its a very strange coral anyway the furoms aren't reallly the best place for a fued:) I would say you should use a third party mitigator from the forum and both agree to the outcome....anyway pick someone thats nonpartal...I am not nonpartal.... try a forum moderator or someone like that! just a suggestoin!
tranceFusion March 7, 2008 Author March 7, 2008 I sent a pic of the ric to the seller and he said he had it for a long time and that is how it always looked, that it was just a rare color morph and it was supposed to look like that. So I don't think this is something caused by shipping that will resolve itself since he seemed to think this was how it has always looked, plus one of the rics shipped just fine. Sorry for the potty mouth, I don't mean to offend anyone! Yeah I don't mean to make a big deal out of it on the forum but I figured people here would have some good advice.
gmubeach March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 Just keep on talking to the seller and try and reach an iagreamnet animals do vary alot by color and shape so maybe you do got a rare morph I havn't seen anything like this before hope your doing well Troy
vaironman March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 From looking at the pix, the ricordeas seem to be in bleaching condition but not in worse condition yet. If it's always been in the condition like that as its owner indicated to you then it's in need of feeding and can use a little more higher light to recover to a healthy state. Seems to be doable to me if you can provide them the environment. I wouldn't worry much, just give them a little TLC. The mouth seems to have green color and its polyp might be blue or brown when all recover. Keep us posted with their condition. Best of luck!
bk_market March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 First of all I do not sell bleached rics, I dont even have one to start with. For the last 3 days I have a few people come to my place and look at my tank to pick out the rics they want. Im pretty sure these people can say something about the quality of these rics that I have in my tank. I even talk to them about the one uncommon morph one that you are refering to. I also refer to this ric in my PMs that it "uncommon" not something rare that worth 100$. As you can see this is not WYSIWYG sale so I dont like the way you telling everyone I sold you one thing and ship you another. I also don't like the way you refering to both rics but only show the same supposely problem ric in both pictures guiding that I sent you those 2. The truth is I sent you another one that is very nice in my opinion. to clear it up, first pic is the ric when first arrive and second picture you probably take it couple hour later. you can clearly see that if you give it time it will open up nicely. I also stated in the very first PM you sent me that I don't mind shipping but I do not guarantee anything. But still in my opinon there is no problem with the shipping at all. That how the ric look to be honest and people who came to my place to picked up their rics can vouch for me.
wreck March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 Those rics look pretty interesting, kindof like an egg over easy. I hope you two work it out.
gmubeach March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 Easy fellas:) Try and help eaach other out and get everything resolved he didn't use your name in fairness... you reveiled yourself just make sure and keep it civil
bk_market March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 (edited) I just want to say my side of the story. It's not some horrible crime that I did that I should hide. I actually pick one nice one and one interesting one for him both aren't even on my for sale list but I feel that he paid more than anyone else due to the shipping so what the heck. Buyer also clearly stated: "Feel free to swap in something else nice if you can". There is the coming meeting if you don't like it, feel free to bring it to me I will take it back. I just dont want to pay money to ship the ric back which imo have no problem. I also dont want to take the risk of shipping back and fourth. Edited March 7, 2008 by bk_market

That how the ric look to be honest and people who came to my place to picked up their rics can vouch for me. You told me that you were going to hold the best big rics for me since I paid first, a rainbow one and a blue one. Originally I was going to get a rainbow and a green and you told me for 5 extra dollars you would give me a nice blue one instead of the green! And then you told me you had sold them and shipped something different. If you posted a bunch of pictures on your thread of fragged off ric polyps why would I think that it wasn't WYSIWYG? Not to mention you state that you have rainbow, blue and green, w/ multiple mouths, and you said nothing about "white" rics.. I made it clear in my post that you shipped me two rics and one was acceptable (though small, not the "multiple mouths" that you claimed) and the other wasn't. I did take two pictures. I took one that was a clear view of the top and one where you could see the coloring on the underside, as I thought this may important in deciding if it was bleached. I can't see from our PMs that we discussed any conditions of shipping guarantee but I think those usually refer to live arrival, not me paying for one thing and you shipping another! I can find absolutely no information on white and gray being a natural color morph. The only thing I can tell is that you promised me one thing and then tried to pass off a bleached coral on me since you already had my money.
lanman March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 It looks pretty cool, to me. I'd be very interested in seeing how it ends up after a few days or weeks. bob
bk_market March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 I said in my thread I have 15 rics range color from green to blue to multicolor (rainbow) and post a few sample. Now if you can please post the pic of the other one that I sent you. Comapre that to all the rics in my threads and ask anyone which one they will pick. The one I sent you keep in my that I didnt plan to sell them at all but keep for myself. I gave you rics from off limit section mean that even the worse one in there is nicer than most of the one im selling. I also have all the original copy of all the PMs so dont pretend that we didnt talk about guarantee policy. I clearly stated in my very first PM " I dont mind shipping but I can not guarantee anything but I will follow correct shipping procedures"
gmubeach March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 First off stay calm you guys its ok.... its not the first time ppl have gotten into an argument about corals just try and think of how and why you got into the hobby it wasn't excatly to fight over corals or make a profit:) I am sure so lets all stay calm and work it out!
bk_market March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 In this message you clearly state that I can feel free to swap out for cooler on if I can. Second message I clearly state that I dont guarantee anything
YBeNormal March 7, 2008 March 7, 2008 OK guys, there is little to be gained by holding a private conversation in a public forum. One or both of you are going to say something that you will regret. Please exchange phone numbers or email addresses and talk this out like adults. Hopefully you can post back later that everything is resolved. To prevent this from escalating into more than just a misunderstanding, I am closing this thread.
