tbittner April 5, 2008 April 5, 2008 (edited) I did a quick search and found this chart. http://ozreef.org/library/tables/alkalinity_conversion.html It looks like 11.2 is JUST barely a little bit high. And if you REALLY want to know a LOT about it: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/feb2002/chemistry.htm Edited April 5, 2008 by tbittner
Ziggy953 April 5, 2008 April 5, 2008 Jason, Awesome tank I just caught up with it. I don't know if anyone answered you about fuge or not but I thought I would show you mine anyway. I have a 72g Bow and my fuge is a 20g tall. I've changed a couple of things since this pic was taken but not much. I keep my light on 24/7.
tbittner April 5, 2008 April 5, 2008 Wow Ziggy! Everything looks so nice and clean! Unlike my skimmer/fuge tubs and there is a 100g container that is my sump on the other side of these tubs.
tbittner April 5, 2008 April 5, 2008 I need to take another pic of mine, it's all cleaned up too. This was right after I replaced the fuge tub. What I thought would be an hour job took 8 hours. Isn't that the way though?
jason the filter freak April 8, 2008 Author April 8, 2008 Added some neon green candy cane coral, and 2 Acans. Keeping my fingers crossed for it to all go well.
jason the filter freak April 16, 2008 Author April 16, 2008 In one 8 inch section of the tank my corals are having an issue... the hammer coral, GSP, and leather are shrinking/regressing. Here's the strange thing there is an Acan in th area that seems to be doing alright. Else where in the tank. I hvae rics, candy cane, green leather, mushrooms, and xenia that are doing fine. any clue on what givesx
jason the filter freak May 7, 2008 Author May 7, 2008 Tank is back up, sans about 30lbs of lr. I lost most of my corals in the move though...
jason the filter freak May 15, 2008 Author May 15, 2008 Ok so far the death toll is: Brown leather (got it 3 meetings ago freebie from frag work shop out of Jamesbuf's tank) Hammer coral (2 full heads and had two new ones sprouting from nhreman) Ric (out of Jamesbuf's tank) Orange crush acan (out of dbarco's tank, though I think it was pretty gone before the move) Unlikely ones that made it: Neon Green candy cane Rare Green/Blue/Pink hairy mushroom Peppermint Acan All fish made it YAY! and so did all the inverts I can see, except the smashed urchin, the new tank photos will be up with in the next week
wreck May 15, 2008 May 15, 2008 What caused your death toll? Was it the tap water? Wreck Ok so far the death toll is: Brown leather (got it 3 meetings ago freebie from frag work shop out of Jamesbuf's tank) Hammer coral (2 full heads and had two new ones sprouting from nhreman) Ric (out of Jamesbuf's tank) Orange crush acan (out of dbarco's tank, though I think it was pretty gone before the move) Unlikely ones that made it: Neon Green candy cane Rare Green/Blue/Pink hairy mushroom Peppermint Acan All fish made it YAY! and so did all the inverts I can see, except the smashed urchin, the new tank photos will be up with in the next week
jason the filter freak July 6, 2008 Author July 6, 2008 I added a lawnmower/algae blenny today! Wooo the lion doesn't seem to mind, as a matter a fact as we speak the blenny is perched about 3 inches above the lions head, straight chillin
jason the filter freak October 13, 2008 Author October 13, 2008 New pics My male is determined to be in the anem no matter how small it is
jason the filter freak October 17, 2008 Author October 17, 2008 Ok so half of these photos are like 6 months old ( I no longer have my lion fish ) Say what you want, I wanted to pet my fishy Yea ok so I'm dumb
mexicanjavafish October 17, 2008 October 17, 2008 It's cool, i try to pet my fish too... then again i don't exactly have a lionfish. :P
LiVEWiRE October 18, 2008 October 18, 2008 So Jason are you going to replace the Lion Fish or are you going another direction now?
SnowHeart October 22, 2008 October 22, 2008 Jason, finally came across this thread and was so excited as I read along... like many great stories though, it included a bit of tragedy. Very sorry to hear about your p. volitan. If you're up for it, please keep us updated on what you decide to do. Regarding the anemone problem you had, I wonder if the vertical space was just too small. This is coming from a complete moron on inverts, lighting, and sw generally, but if the anemones required a lot of light, they might have been competing for the "top spot" on your live rock... downside of the column is that there wasn't a lot of prime real estate near the light sources. If they just couldn't share that space, well...

Ziggy953 October 27, 2008 October 27, 2008 (edited) Wow Your RBTA looks awesome. Mine isn't as deep red but it is getting there. That is one awesome mushroom. Where did you get it? Edited October 27, 2008 by Ziggy953
jason the filter freak November 3, 2008 Author November 3, 2008 Well I went to the midnight madness and it was well well well worth it. I picked up a lot of frags and olny lost one (wasn't so hot when I bought it shouldn't have, oh well) I'll post up pics soon! First though I was wondering if anyone else ran into the same problem I have. I was trying to place corals in my tank and one of the nicest places is near my anemone where my clowns host and when I started gluing there my clowns began taking them out. I'd glue down a frag and then go to prep another and they'd knock a frag off a rock either with their teeth or their tails,
