New member looking for help

Guest Ocean Arcade

Hello all.

I am a new member in the Falls Church VA area.

I previously had a 110gal reef tank set up for several years, and had various success with fish and corals.

After becomming frustrated with the lack of space for the "systems" being wedged under the tank, and then building a seperate gameroom in my backyard, I decided to up grade to a 630 gallon reef tank that is a room divider in an ocean themed arcade room.

The new tank has a dedicated room in the lower level for the systems. My friend Adam has been helping me design and build the new system. Right now we are working on the plumbing, with an expected water in date of thanksgiving or sooner.

I met a WAMAS member at Wally aq. today and thought I would give the group a try.

If anyone would like to stop by and check out the tank email me I would be glad to show you.

I plan on going to the frag exchange at Kilmer, and can bring pics if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

Jeff

Welcome Jeff! Your membership has been activated.

I started to create a welcome thread and post the comments from your sign-up about the new tank but figured you'd get around to it once you had access to the board.

I'm sure a lot of us would be interested in dropping by to see the tank sometime. You might want to add you location to your profile so folks will have an idea of where you live.

Oh no! You met Josh first???? Trust me when I say that he's the abnormal one amongst all of us. LOL

Welcome to the club. I've never heard of anyone having a tank that large before. Like the rest of the folks here, I can't wait to see the pictures of it. Shoot, let us know when we can have a tank tour. We'll be sure to bring a large handkerchief to wipe the drools from our mouth as well.

James

Very exciting, Jeff! I know I'm not the only one that wants to check out your tank. Do I smell a tank tour in the making?? :bb:

(yauger, did Raf get in touch with you about a couple boxes he's held for me for a while? I didn't know you work at Wally's; I live 2 minutes away so I could pick it up from you there. PM me?)

Wow, I am impressed with all the excitement in the club!!

We worked on plumbing the protein skimmer today.

Here is a list of some of the hardware going into the tank:

Recirculating protein skimmer with two Beckett injectors from My Reef Creations. Uses a sequence 4300 pump for recirculation

Separate extra-large waste collector that shuts the skimmer off when full

Duel chamber commercial calcium reactor with separate pH probe attachment from My Reef Creations

Nilsen Kalk Reactor from My Reef Creations with two timers for the frequency and duration of the kalk mix

Reef-filler 30gpd dosing pump for feeding Nilsen

Nu-Clear canister filter for activated carbon

Neptune aqua-controller to monitor everything

(2) Aqua-logic Delta-Star titanium heat pumps for heating/chilling

Return pumps: (1) sequence 5800 & (1) sequence 4300

(4) Tunze Streams (2) 6101 & (2) 6201 with tunze multi-controller

(3) Reef Sun 1,000 metal halide pendants with 10,000K single mogel bulbs (each with a 3'x3' footprint)

(4) T5 48" retro fit kits (2 bulbs each) for actinic light

(5) Current USA powerbrite LED moon lights (4 bulbs each)

(2) separate deep sand-beds (up to 8" deep) that can come off-line for servicing

Live sand approximately 1" deep in main display tank

Multiple tank liquid replenisher and solenoid valve controllers (with high & low floats) for makeup water and nilsen feeder water

180gpd RO/DI unit

The overall tank dimensions are approx. 11 feet long, 3 feet wide and 30" high.

Since it divides the room, the total viewing area is about 25 feet or so.

If you are interested in checking it out mid construction just call my cell, otherwise I will try and get pics up in a week or so online, but will have some at Kilmer new month.

all i can say is....wow....

good luck w/ the build & welcome!

don't forget to post pics of the build

11' long.. wow.. that is going to be awesome, can't wait to come check it out

boo why do you have to be all the way down in va, if you haven't already bought all the equipment, why not consider VHOs for actinic supplementation due to them being brighter, for such a deep tank. Also how come you're using a cannister for Carbon, why not a reverse flow reactor.

gonna have to second jason on the vho's... from what i've seen they do a much better job at bringing out the colors in your tank. perhaps a t5 vho combo.
