  1. Yes, it is the mj1200 that comes with the reactor. It is very noisy and I have never had problems with Maxi's before.
  2. I purchased a BRS dual (GFO/Carbon) resctor and from day one, the pump is very noisy. Can anyone suggest ways to make it run quiet? I have tried cushion with dense sponge but did not work. I have not cut the tubing yet. Would cutting the tubing to make it shorter to the pump help? Thanks
  3. Thanks for the post! I wish you had posted yeeterday b/c I just lost a fish to Pop-Eye where his eye came completely out. Only thing I could find on the web was to treat with Copper, which did not work. Would try your method in a heartbeat. Keep them coming.
  4. Any experience with sand (very fine) being in the water column has any detriminal effect on fish? I just bought a sleeper goby and his constant sand sifting plus my current has created a constnat sand storm. I know if I was one of the fish I wouldn't be happy, but not sure if anyone can tell me if it is actually harmful? Any ideas on how to combat other than getting rid of the goby?
  5. Thanks for the feedback. I have been running my lights for a few hours/day but wasn't sure it did any good or bad. The LR I got is good (except a few aptaisia) and have a few baby snails and stars. It did come with a nice feather duster and some red Monti that seems to be doing well. These two are the reasons for running light. I have LR rubble in my sump with only the sand that was deposted during the initial sand storm when added. My sand cleared up in about a day but I ws careful not to make too much of a cloud when adding.
  6. I have a 90g with 30 sump/fuge that has been cycling for about 2 weeks. I have live rock and new sand that has been seeded to get it started. My memory has failed me since last time starting from scratch and hoping someone can chime in to help. No trace of Ammonie but some brown algae is just beginning to appear - should I get a clean up crew now, or wait? Should I run my lights (new T5 8 bulb) as I normally would if the tank was stocked, less, or not at all? Fuge light? Should I be running my skimmer? Or, should I not do anything until the cycle finishes? Also, should I be testing, or is it a waste of time until after the cycle completes? Should I be doing normal weekly water changes? Also, what type of light are most people using on their refugiums to get good results? I cannot find the light I used to use and have a F6 T5 daylight bulb I found but have not turned it on yet. Should I replace with a grow light, or should this be ok. Anything I missed that may be helpful in my efforts is appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Animal Jungle is pretty good. They are on the corner of South Plaza and Holland Road. Cool pet store in general. Their is another one near Animal Jungle but I can't remember the name.
  8. Thanks! That will save me some dough!
  9. I know this has been discussed to death, but are their any reef safe options for sand other than buying a ton of live sand from LFS's? I would like to save some $$ and buy less expensive sand and seed with live if possible. TIA for suggestions.
  10. I had a Snowflake in my 180 and he grew much bigger than I was told he would. Fed him with prongs several times a week, but he still became aggressive to my other inhabitants. Used to frequently grab my Picasso Trigger by the belly and drag him under the rocks, but luckily the Trigger neer seemed worse for wear. They are also escape artisits, so a good fitting top is necessary.
  11. I am looking for arcrylic rods to create rock islands and am looking for a place local to Prince William/Fairfax/Fauquier County? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
  12. I am planning on having 2 rock islands (towers) in my 90g setup. Looking for suggestions on best way to build? Can I drill a hole through the live rock and use PVC to hold? Use ties? Should I fill the PVC so it is not a detritus trap? Use a base of some sort to help stabalize? Any suggestions/reccomendations or past experience greatly appreciated. Thanks
  13. Do different skimmers need specific water levels to operate at the maximum performance? My question is, should I wait to decide (or buy) my skimmer before building my sump to determine water level, or is 8" the norm? Also, any recommendations on skimmers that won't break the bank? I have a 90g with total water volume around 120g. Thanks for the input.
  14. I am planning on re-sealing my tank although they currently do not leak. Can I silicone over the existing seal, or does it not adhere properly? I will not do it if I have to remove current sealant Also, in the past i used surgical gloves and finger to make the seal and was told to either dip my finger in water or rubbing alcohol. Can anyone tell me which? Can't remember - Thnx
  15. Here it is...
  16. I thought I added a picture. ANyone help on how to add a pic?
  17. Anyone shed some light on what this is? Came with a tank purchase and not sure if the skimmer cup looking piece goes with it or what. Their is a ping pong ball in the middle tube so i assume its for measuring circ or flow. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  19. I am back in the hobby and on WAMAS after a 3 year hiatus from moving and getting rid of all my tanks. I just bought a used 90 gallonrr today and it has a lot of coraline on the glass and overflow chamber. I think I know the answer, but should I scrape as much off as I can, or leave it? Will it cause an ammonia spike? It is baked on pretty good. Thanks
  20. IME they are less aggressive than some other triggers. I have successfully had with other triggers, wrasses, tangs, etc as well as smaller gobies. They will eat coraline of the rocks but will usually ignor corals if fed properly.
  21. LTA. Silversides cut n half 1 time per week.
  22. I would tend to think your urchin isn't very happy.
  23. I think I remember either Drs Foster & Smith or Marine Depot having them in their catalogs, but do not see online. May be worth a call to both.
  24. I had this fixture on my old 75g and worked well for softies and LPS. BTA did well but if you may move to SPS, I did not have as good of luck as with MH. I agree that if you have the patience and know how, a tretro fit will be better for less$
  25. Snowflake Eel! Told was as peaceful an eel as their is. Maybe at 6 inches when I bought him, but grew into a 2'+ monster that would routinely attack my other aggressive fish (triggers, wrasses, etc) and drag them under the rocks. The triggers and wrasses were able to fight him off, but a few of my tangs were not so lucky. Thanks to John at BRK for RELUCTANTLY taking him off my hands.
