  1. If you don't see it, it probably isn't right there. Might not show up till you have certain # of posts.
  2. You can set it yourself if you don't care for the default values or bird-puke corals. Look at your profile, click "edit my profile", and it is right there.
  3. I saw a documentary a while back I'm pretty sure was Georgia Aquarium where they talked about the water changes. They showed using a forklift to move the containers of IO salt they mix up. One single container had about the volume of a car. They held it up with a forklift and opened it from the bottom and the salt all fell into what I presume was a mixing tank.
  4. I took a trip to the Georgia Aquarium a couple years ago, it was great. They have a chunk of the acrylic used to build the viewing wall setting out to touch and look at, it is huge. This tank looks very similar, even similar inhabitants (capped off by the whale sharks)
  5. You guys said it, Larry was great. He has an encyclopedic knowledge. And he would give the real story. I recall asking him about a goby one time: "He spooks real easily. If you don't have a completely sealed tank he'll jump out for sure and then that's $38 right in the toilet. mmm hm. Yep." I think he said "mmm hm. Yep." pretty much at the end of every sentence. He was amusing.
  6. Hiya I think all LFS should have reasonable prices. No reason to single Roozen's out here. Every single LFS I have ever been to has had times they had prices on things I thought were (very) unreasonable. Some LFS are like that pretty much all the time... Because, as I mentioned above, all LFS have crazy prices now and then. If I never went back to an LFS because I saw a crazy price on something at some point, I wouldn't have anywhere to go. Taking all factors into account, Roozen's has always been at or near the top for me, and the occasional silly price does not change that. You only get "taken advantage of" if you actually buy something that you think is overpriced, which I wouldn't do... This is just my opinion, and I respect your right to your own. You should take your business where you want to based on whatever factors you feel are important. I'm just offering what factors I feel are important. We don't have to agree. I always make sure the guy bagging/casing my stuff marks the price on the bag or case, including LR. That way there is no issue at the cash register. If they do try to jack the price up at the register, I just wouldn't buy it. (has not been an issue for me though) Indeed they are not likely to change. I believe they make quite a bit on the aquatic stuff as well.
  7. The prices do indeed change. Some reasons are more evident than others. The fact of the matter is they have thousands of items...this means: 1) It is too difficult to keep prices on everything 2) It is unreasonable to expect them to give you the same quoted price they did last week. It is just too much to remember. To say you aren't going back there because today's price is worse than yesterday's is silly. Consider it a sale that you missed. You should have bought it when you got the low price quoted. I have been there many times and left because that day's prices were too high, and many other times the prices were insanely low and bought a bunch of stuff. Other times if I feel like it I will negotiate with Jos. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Personally I prefer this business model to just slapping a high price on everything. I am a bargain hunter.
  8. Not a fish, but arrow crabs eat them for sure. I have watched it many times. I'll come in the room and see him sitting there eating one. Sometimes I will also catch them and feed them to him.
  9. There are plenty of new 5000s on ebay. Different lens packages available. That is probably what I would do.
  10. I had all my rocks up on a PVC frame at one point, allowing me to see all the way under to the back of the tank, which was pretty dark. I liked that it game my LR/LS more surface area, brought corals closer to the light, made more accessible swimming holes, and gave my sand dwellers/sifters more sand to dwell in and sift. It looked like this: I also had the entire PVC frame under pressure with a zillion holes in it, so water was shooting everywhere in all directions all the time.
  11. delete
  12. I'll take it off your hands if you don't want it and no one else takes it. Agree that Pristine is a bit spendy for PE. It is about $15 (with tax) for a 4 oz pack. When I was buying the 40 oz packs at EA, it was $32 with tax...that was a while ago, it is possible the price has gone up, but still...
  13. PE mysis is by far in my opinion the best food available. Every fish I have ever had has gone nuts for it, including mandarins, diamond gobies, achilles tang, and other picky feeders. Pristine has had it for a long time. I get mine at Exotic Aquatics. They have the huge 2.5lb blocks for $32 (last time I bought it, a long time ago). This is a hugely better price than anywhere else by the pound. The last couple times they made me buy 10 packs to get that price, but I sold all the ones I didn't need in about 30 minutes on WAMAS. If you do a group buy, I am in for 1 or 2 packs.
  14. Happy Holidays again WAMAS.
  15. Don't ruin my fantasy! I suppose I could inject it into my bloodstream and wait for it to work its way out through my urine. Then it would bypass my stomach. Or, I could puke it up before it had a chance to be broken down. Or, I could put the snail into a slow release caplet that will not dissolve until after it has gotten past my stomach.
  16. Fine question. I was thinking about for myself, but he and I eat mostly the same food. This begs the obvious question of whether it would make his excrement glow. Of course that begs the question of whether it would make mine glow. Too many questions, too few answers...as usual in this hobby.
  17. That is what I did. The thing (large CPR fuge) was too heavy when full for my comfort to hang on. Built a simple 2x4 stand in 5 minutes, painted it black, and was good to go.
  18. More money does not always mean better quality, and Roozen's is a perfect example. The fish I have selected there are on par with fish from anywhere else, and much lower price. Of the many fish I have bought there over the years, one example is an Achilles I bought for $38 or $48. Perfect condition, would have cost $100 anywhere else. Lived for years until I sold him. For me, paying more for no reason is nonsense. If you know what you are doing, the place can be a gold mine.
  19. I guess if I was just targeting a couple hours, I wouldn't put the heater on the UPS, because the tank won't suffer at all from not having a heater for a couple hours. If it was just an air pump, I would think a "normal" UPS would run a "normal" air pump for several hours.
  20. Wowzers, you aren't messing around. Do you have to replace the 48 batteries every couple years? I've noticed that the UPSs I've used only last about that long. Maybe a bit longer. How long does your setup keep your tank powered?
  21. I had my return on the UPS 24/7 for maybe 2 years. But of course most of the time there was AC power, so I assume it just passed through the UPS.
  22. I don't have it any more, but I was using a 1500VA geek squad brand UPS. At that head height, the wahoo pump was using 150-200W I think. I think the UPS lasted about 30 minutes when the power went out. Might have been a bit longer. I used to have frequent short (<5 min) outages, so this worked well. I usually only had my return pump on the UPS, but did test it with other components with the UPS unplugged to see if it would work.
