  1. BRK always has a bunch of stuff in stock. I'd drop them a line.
  2. Looking good man. Love the blenny shot.
  3. The first pics are bubble algae. Aka Velonia algae. You can read about it here: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-02/hcj/feature/index.php or wait for Rik to tell you all about it.
  4. Me too. He was very knowledgeable too. Waaaaay more personable than Jos.
  5. hahahahahaha. That is too funny. I thought most of the car audio stuff left when Larry left. Wasn't that his cup of tea.
  6. Another option with T5s is to get one of the Current Sundial fixtures. These are designed specifically to fit inside canopies because they put the fans in the back of the fixture, not the sides. Mine worked great inside my Mom's canopy over her 90gal. Check them out here: http://www.current-usa.com/sundial_t5ho There is somebody selling a Sundial in the for sale section
  7. And I do agree with Brian in that its only for seasoned hobbyists. Not saying that you aren't, just putting the word out for newbies. I only give them money when they have unique items that I haven't seen before, which they do get in quite often. After hearing from a fellow member that they tried to sell them Aptasia as a "good" anemone, I knew then and there that I had to watch myself with that place. I give much more of my money to BRK, Aqua Co, and Aquarium One, stores that I trust. Maybe 5% of my budget goes to Roozens, if that.
  8. Do you really think any fish we buy has never been in that situation? The fish we buy have been shipped, and reshipped so many times its not even funny. Those big warehouses on the west coast keep all their fish in very similar sized containers. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Roozens in any way. They've gone waaaay downhill recently. Not that they were ever that great, but they have definitely let their large clam/coral tank get pretty bad. It really does look like they're raising aptasia in there. I've noticed that alot of things started to go downhill once Larry left. Also, their tanks may be dirty looking, but if you do a test on their water quality, it isn't that bad actually. I tested for nitrates and they it barely tested any nitrates (just a hint of blue color on a Salifert test kit). Phosphates were the same, at the low end of the test range. Didn't both to do Alk or Calcium.
  9. I don't get it. I thought Ozone essentially sterilizes the water, which would mean it would help against pathogens in the water column. Gonna go do some more reading. Looks like I'm sticking with UV at the time though. Thanks for the comments everyone.
  10. You'll have to get all new equipment. The bulb sockets are different between 150 and 400 watt halides. Are you running DE or SE bulbs?? Either way, both require a socket upgrade. SE halides use the same size socket for 250 and 400. DE bulbs have different size sockets for 150, 250, and 400. I'll also say that you will have a considerable difference in heat transfer between the 150 and 400 bulbs. Using 400watt bulbs on a 90gal tank, I don't see how you'll be able to do that without the help of a chiller. I've seen plenty of people run 400watters without having to use a chiller, but those people have had much larger tanks (300+ gallon systems) which allows for a larger distribution of heat. I would try 250watt bulbs first, a 90gal tank isn't tall enough to require 400watt bulbs. There is some used lighting in the "for sale" section right now. I'd look in that.
  11. That is what I was going to suggest.
  12. Do you run yours through your skimmer?? If so, do you notice any change in skimmate production??
  13. Use Aptasia X on them. In my experience, they always retract and if they are in a big enough hole, then can retract and avoid kalk past to survive. They actually like the taste of Aptasia X. Plus its alot of fun watching them explode from the AX.
  14. Never really looked into running ozone, but after speaking with Garrett about it this weekend, I think it might be something worth looking into. Who here runs Ozone and why are you using it instead of a UV sterilizer?? Most people are running their ozone into their protein skimmers, but does this affect skimmate production at all?? Any advice or experiences shared is appreciated.
  15. Hook one of these up to the intake of a maxijet, then hook up a hose to the outflow and have it go to your bucket or even better, outside somewhere. This is how I do water changes, and I'm able to get most of the detritus buildup out of my sump with the loc-line attachment. Works great.
  16. What about buffering the RO water for water changes?? I remember reading something about the benefits of buffering the RO water before you add in the salt.
  17. Curious to know if anybody out there buffers there ATO water?
  18. Looking good man. Where'd you get that light from?
  19. That female is HUGE!! She's gonna lay a massive amount of eggs.
  20. I sent an email to the address you posted, with no response. I also sent you a PM, with no response.
  21. I would also contact Bob. I've been impressed with every stand and canopy he has made. I have no doubt that I'll be enlisting in his services once I'm ready to upgrade.
  22. Can't go wrong with the Eheim. It is expensive, but well worth it in my mind. If you've got a busy schedule, then its definitely worth the investment.
  23. Remember to use the 5% coupon from RC. I believe its "RC5".
  24. I got two from Aqua Co. They cleared the extra asterinas in no time.
