Dave, That is a great idea for a place like BRK. You literally can bun 1 ton shipments. I got about 80lbs of the stuff in my tank. This was last April and the stuff blends right in now color wise, not all the life, but it will get there. I have yet to have any algae outbreaks and no unwanted pests like aptasia or majano. Chris

Earlier in the Summer I got a frag of Acro Yongei from CaribbeanJake. The one place I wanted it mounted had a slot in the rock, but to get it to stay (without help) it was placed on its side (the original is in the shape of a squashed Y). It is now doing exactly what I wanted and that is new stalks are growing upward, maybe about 6, but two are dominant. Two areas are also going down which I hope will attach to the rock to stablize as the piece gets bigger. Chris

All, The store is in Ashburn (Broadlands Community) right off the Dulles Greenway. I happen to live just down the street and have visited Sean's store but have not bought livestock yet. Nice frags and prices. Frozen Food as well. cr

Put some vegetable oil on it and spread and thin with a squeegee.

BTW. Got mine from Lowes, Valspar American Tradition Ultra Latex Enamal, 8 oz can.

I have heard of the film option, could be a good choice. On my glass tank I used a midnight blue acrylic and applied it with one of those 1" diameter foam rollers about 4 inches long. It is designed for smooth surfaces and it turned out great, do not use a standard roller or brush. Multiple thin coats also. For the internal overflow box, I did not paint it so I could see into it from around back. Chris

Let me be the first to welcome you :2thumbsup:

BTW with the new skimmer, run the thing in clean warm fresh water for a few hours to help rid of production oils that may be on/in the unit. This will help the skimmer to do its job sooner. cr

I went with the manufactures sizing, so I have a G-1x on my 90g. I have had no problems and it handles things fine. When you purchase, make sure to check out the ASM threads on RC. Lots of good info, pics, etc. of modification with a gate valve, direct feed and recirculation pumps. Check out www.asmskimmers.com for sales and accessories. I would definitely do the gate valve mod for control and noise abatement. The suction noise from the air line was much for me, so I added about 2 feet of silicone air line tube (fits perfect in oversize air line of skimmer). This quites things and does not restrict amount of air intake. Great product. Plastic material is different (cheaper). Do not drop, it will break. cr.

Any suggestions on how to take better pictures?

I too have had problems getting good shots. Whenever I have tried to get close the camera could never focus properly. So, with the camera on its highest resolution setting I stand farther back so it can focus. Then, when manipulating the image I zoom in to the desired location and enlarge the final shot....use those megapixels Not a total solution but it work most of the time. cr -
ReefGeek Talk to Greg, tell him your situation and desires, he will hook you up. Chris

I have 6 48" 54watt High Output T5s. Note there are normal output version and high output, check before buying. 4 are overdriven with IceCap 660. Got my setup from ReefGeek.com with the IceCap upgrade and reflector upgrade. No comparison to PC, they will blow them away. Lots of debate in comparison to MH, obvious differences exist. IMO much more output that VHO. Remember, with T5s you cannot go by a watt/gal comparison. Low heat, deep penetration into tank (I have maxima clam on botton of 24" deep 90g and I loves it there), and long bulb life make them nice, high initial cost. Lots of people complain about not being able to keep mushrooms. I have noticed if you put them in a cave portion, back corner or under a ledge they will do just fine. When introducing new life (fish or coral), be sure to screen the tank over the period of say 10 days. I use fiberglass screen (5 layers) and peel a layer off every couple of days to acclimate. Where your sunglass if you need to look at them while in operation.

Are you saying they could supply the tank and regulator. Any price on the regulator and what it consisits of?
-
Leishman, Could you please elaborate. Can WAMAS members go to any Roberts and get this, is this done by exchange, etc. cr

I just did some more research and I answered my own question. All, check out this link for suppliers, cost, method, and who they deal with. This is for the Wash/Balt area. CO2 Suppliers Erik, 'Bars by Bud' is listed there! cr

Tagging along... I will eventually get a calcium reactor and would need a source of CO2 in the Sterling area. Anyone got a source?

Going to carry T5 HO bulbs?

Thanks Howard.

A few of you have said to stay away from the green brittle star. First, what is the difference between a serpent start and a brittle star, if any? Next, if I were to get rid of the green brittle star, what would a good reef safe star be? My wife said she wants something similiar if I remove it. CR
-
I have had the brittle star for many years now. I did loose some peppermint shrimps to it, but the skunk cleaner that is in there now it not bothered by it. Suprisingly, my wife likes the 'monster' as we call it. I haven't decided yet what to do about it though. I do plan on getting a few anthias, that is cool as to how the whole tank will react to there actions. cr

I did a search on the Bellus. I will check the others out, are those you listed reef safe or are all Genicanthus safe?
-
I actually never heard of the Genicanthis angels, but I looked it up and that is a beatiful fish, striking color difference between M/F. Like the female coloring better. Also, looked up pricing... :( for now. Lots of similiar suggestions, but a few gems are coming through that I did not consider. These will all be added to my list of potentials.

It is funny how a 'cheap' little fish can cause a debate. Just wondering if the original name was Sel, and then D A M was added later. Similiar but in reverse, this coworker I had that once told me he was twelve before he found out 'd a m yankees' was two words. :P
