I am also one of the unlucky few that lost electricity this moning. Lost a 3 Inch Yellow Tang.... Was able to run an airpump on UPS's for the oxygen, but I guess the stress of the pumps goings on and off for about 10 minutes before shutting down completely, or low temps stressed him out.
Nick,
If you are planning to set it back up eventually after the move - why start from scratch? I would add myself to the long list of people that would help you move your existing setup to your new house. Some of the other members may even have the setup and space to house your livestock temporarily (or permananently given half the chance <_< ).
Best wishes

Can you calibrate the Pinpoint pH Monitor with a 4.0 pH and a 10.0 pH solution rater than a 4.0/10.0 pH and a 7.0 pH as indicated on the unit? How accurate would the unit be around the 8.2 pH mark, once calibrated in this way.
Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to all @ WAMAS.

Alex,
Have you tried a different test kit for your nitrates - just to get a 2nd opinion. If you are still having nitrate spikes while performing a water change - I believe you should not add any more livestock or chemicals into you tank.
Also check your water that you are adding for nitrates.

Baking Soda increases ALK and pH....... The pH will drop approx 0.2 points immediately following addition of baking soda to rise slowly over the next few hours.
I have used Kick-ICK with very good success.... Try to find out what is stressing him out. The usual suspects are temperature, water parameters etc.

Welcome.....
When you are ready for some softies, I can offer Green Star Polyps, Capnella (***), Leather Coral and Anthelia (***)... The ones marked with (***) are fast growers and some consider them weeds :D
