  1. What is the over the counter supplement for Magnesium? I don't remember. Thanks, Scott
  2. I have some Kalk you could use, if you need it. Let me know. You could set up just a kalk drip until you find something more perm. Scott
  3. small glass bits=sand Exactly I have a 38 gallon tank and I drilled a hole for a 3/4 inch bulkhead and a 1.5 inch bulkhead. I trimmed down the plastic frame a little so I could place the holes a little higher on the tank to avoid seeing the water line. I took each rubber gasket and traced the inside of each on of the center brace. I also spaced them one gasket apart. I used two different bits. One to drill the initial hole and the other to make the circle. The bigger hole took about an hour and the second took about 45 min. I used a spray bottle with water to keep the bits cooled.
  4. I knew the back wasn't tempered glass. I didn't want to have all the tank water on my floor I would be happy to help anyone who needed holes drilled. I also tried posting pictures, but they are on snapfish and I couldn't figure out how to attach them. Scott
  5. As I was finishing the hole, the glass popped of an fell on the floor. Didn't really have to worry about it falling into the tank. I used a spray bottle and water to keep the bit cool while I was drilling every few seconds I would spray the bit with water. Worked like a charm B)
  6. I just finished drilling holes for a 3/4 inch bulkhead and a 1 inch bulkhead. I even did it with fish in the tank It wasn't too hard just takes some time. I used a dremel and two different bits. I can take some pictures if anyone wants. Scott
  7. Salifert by far! very easy to tell the color change
  8. If I use thick acrylic, what do you use to seal it to the glass? Silicone or weldon?
  9. anyone commuting from MD that wants to carpool to save gas??
  10. Chip, I might take you up on that. I bought some plastic at HD yesterday and I am trying to see what I can do. Thanks, Scott
  11. Do any of you remember how much the glass/acrylic was?
  12. where do you get the glass or acrylic? I also wouldn't be able to cut either unless I could use a dremel. Thanks, Scott
  13. I am in the process of building a new sump using a 20 gallon long tank. Does anyone have any tips for this? What to use for dividers? would using rocks work? thanks, Scott
  14. That is funny that you mention that. I actually was just thinking of fraging it. It has grown larger and I have cut some pieces of for frags. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks, Scott
  15. update: Yesterday I drained the tank till about a few inches were left for my fish and with the help of Tim (thanks a lot!) we lifted it up with the stand and put it on a homemade dolly. I set everything back up in the new location and things looked good. Thanks to all for the advice and help! Scott
  16. I was hoping not to have to break it down all the way, but it looks like I may have too. Would puting it on a moving dolly be any different? (can you tell I am being lazy? )
  17. I had a great trip to hawaii. I did some diving, snorkeling and took lots of pics that I will post later. I left my tank in the hands of a neighbor and when I cam home everything was ok. The one thing that did happen was that my kalk drip setup tube came off of the sump and dripped on the floor at a rate of 80 ml/hour for a couple of days. Anyway, my carpet around my tank is wet and I think I need to move my tank to make sure the carpet is dry. I have several questions for anyone who has done this: It is a 38 gallon tank, do I have to empty all the water and take everything out just to move it to another room or can I just take some of the water out, leave all the inhabitants in there and move it to the room? Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated. My wife is breathing down my neck to get this done soon:) On a side note, I thought I would drill the tank so I can take out the overflow box. I will add more to this later. Thanks, Scott
  18. It looks like it is dying from the base. The rest of it seems to be doing fine.
  19. The colony is close to the top so I think it is getting plenty of light. The only thing that has changed is that a colony of anthelia has been growing close to it and blocking some current. I will try to improve the current and see what happens. Thanks for the advice. I will let you know what happens. Scott
  20. The top is getting most of the flow. I would imagine that the base is not getting a whole lot of flow. If I increase it will it be ok?
  21. I have a purple tipped green acro that has recently receded from the base. The tips seem to be growing fine, but the base has died a little. What causes this? Is there anything I should do? I don't want it to die. My parameters are: CA-400 KH- 9.6 alk -3.4 I use salifert test kits. My CA is a little low and I have been bringing it up slowly. I didn't test MG, but the last time I did it was a little low(1125) and I have been bringing that up too. thanks, Scott
  22. Krish, Sent you pm earlier, Scott
