  1. Michael, About a year and a half ago I switched from Instant Ocean to the bioassy salt. I didn't see any problems with the coral I had until I reached about the 3 month. Things didn't really look that great, new acro's would RTN and existing ones were started to have bleach marks on them and were receding. I had many small acros and monti's in my tank. I switched salt again (back to IO) and things started looking better. I remember a post on RC about that salt, some people had great luck and others did not. Just my 2 cents.
  2. Michael, We booked a tour package that included all of the rides to various locations. I am not sure about transportation to these places (although many people said there are buses), once you get to any location there are a lot of taxis everywere. Manuel Antonio was nice. We stayed at Si Como No. Very nice place. There is a whole strip of motels/resorts and then you could also stay a little farther out in a small town just outside of the park. In Arenal we stayed at Tabacon. I don't recommend it as they were not very nice, but the resort was nice. I forgot to mentioned that we went to a cloud forest for a couple of days and went zip linning. We also saw a small museum of poison dart frogs. Oh, how is your Spanish. Many of the popular motels/resorts speak English, but it helps to know a good amount of Spanish if you are going to go off the beaten bath. Scott
  3. We spent some time in Tortuguero which was nice, (but it rained the whole time we were there, but we saw a nest of turtles hatch). Interesting place, very remote. Lots of wildlife (lizards, birds, plants, Monkeys). We also spent time at the Arenal Volcano and the hot springs there (very nice and relaxing). Did a lot of hiking around there. Very cool, lots of birds and monkeys (howlers were very loud). Spent about a week in manuel antonio. Also very nice. The park is nice, lots of monkeys, lizards, Coatimundis. Let me know if you want any information. I have a lot of pictures on the web too if you are interested.
  4. michael, My wife and I spent two weeks there on our honeymoon last October. How long are you going? This would let me know what you should see and do. We traveled throughout the country. There are lots of places to go depending on what you like. Scott
  5. sounds good to me:) I can get it tomorrow if that works.
  6. Steve, I might be interested. How much?
  7. If I understand you right, I think I tried thatt and if I got the flow rate high enough in the tank, the overflow box wouldn't support it without adding additional U tubes
  8. The overflow is a U tube type, but I don't think both tubes will start up again if there is a power outtage. I think one of the tubes will break its siphon
  9. Dave, The pump is a mag 12 and there are a number of 90 degree bends in it (at least 4) the pump is going to a SCWD and then going into the tank. I am not sure what the overflow is rated for, but obviously less then the amount of water going back into the tank. I was trying to increase the flow on the tank(there is a mag 5) and eliminate powerheads in the tank. As a matter of fact I was reading that thread and was thinking about trying it. I am curious if anyone has done this before. Scott
  10. Steve, I don't know if I will be able to get there early. I am having some carpet installed and not sure what time they will be coming. I will make a trip tonight to the market. Do we have enought blenders? I might be able to convince the wife to borrow one of hers.
  11. Is there anyone that has drilled their tank with water in it or is there a member that drills tanks?
  12. I built a return using pvc(3/4") and hooked it up last night. The problem I encountered was the pump was pumping too much water into the tank and the return (only one overflow box) was not pulling out enough water to replace what was being taken out. I had built a valve to limit the amount of water returning to the tank which worked, but then there wasn't enough flow coming from the pump into the tank. I thought of a few possible solutions, but I wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas. Solutions: 1. get a smaller pump and hook it up in place of the bigger one. The only fear with that is that I might experience too little water flow. 2. Make the whole thing a closed loop system and build a intake from the remaining pvc. The downfall with this is I would have to have two pumps running because I have a refugium/sump running and I wanted to eliminate running two pumps. 3. To install bulkheads to accomodate the additional water flow. The fear with that is I would have to drill the tank to install the bulkheads and I would hate for the tank to crack in the process. Has anyone done this before? Any ideas/comments would be helpful. thanks, Scott

  19. Michael, I looked at the pumps and it looks like one is a eheim 1250 and the other looks like a mag 5
  20. Michael, I will check tonight and post to let you know
  21. michael, I have a used eheim pump, not sure what model # it is. I can check if you want. I have another spare pump too, but I don't recall the name/model. Scott
