  1. Yes, Red circles are PAR that I measured with the PAR meter I borrow from here.
  2. Hi Team!! My tank has been running for 5 months already ( ) and have had ups and downs, mainly with SPS corals. I try to have all the parameters on point but something is not right and I can't figure out what it is. Anemones (three) are doing fantastic (they found a way to move around and stay very close to each other), LPSs are doing fine, except not a crazy growth or expansion. The problem is that some SPS (not all montis) are losing their color, getting super pale and then I believe, bleaching. A chalise is also losing it's color and becoming pale and it's located at the bottom of the tank. When I tried to set up my lights to the AB+ Spectrum, I lost 2 Acroporas at the top and had to lower intensity even though I used the acclimation feature for 20 days. With he AB+, using 2 Al Prime HD, I did not get impressive PAR readings: I am not longer simulating the AB+ settings. I lowered the intensity. My parameters are very stable except the Phosphates that varies between .02-.07 (Hanna phosphate meter meter with an accuracy of more or less .04). Nitrates are always at 1ppm. Calcium is normal and Mg as well. I try to keep kH at 8.7-9.1dkH. Also, something curious is that I have not seen coralline algae in 5 months, even though adding spores and some small rocks and snails with algae on them. I use RO/DI to filter my water and have with 0TDS. I perform 15% wc every two weeks and sometimes dose Korallen Amminoacids for SPS. Any suggestions? I think it has to be something with the lights. This is the current 2 Al Prime HD settings:
  3. Look what I caught this morning! They finally sleeping in the anemone.
  4. Ill have to read about this instant phyto. Did not know about it! Wondering which one is the best for pods.
  5. Give it some time. I had one that lost his feathers and came back stronger.
  6. Hey guys! So I started culturing Pods and I've been using PhytoFeast, which will become very expensive in the long run. I would like to know where I can buy a live culture and fertilizer to start my own culturing. I plan to use soda bottles, airstone, and a small lamp to start.
  7. Can I have a Stary Blenny and a Lawn mower in the same tank? I try to brush it but it comes back. And it's very hard to brush from corals since I think I am going to damage the coral.
  8. I still need some help with brown/dark hair algae. It is growing on corals and tissue is receeding. For example, i bought a frag and during shipment, the corners were damaged, now algae is growing on the coral and hermits arent doing their job. I have a stary blenny and does not eat that much either. Nitrates are at 1ppm and Phosphates at .05. I lowered the photo period, but need like a tang to keep it at bay. My tank is 40gIM , so what are my options?
  9. Well. It only took 10 mins and caught him! Looking for a good home for him.
  10. mmmmm, I will have to capture this wrasse and get rid of it! any suggestions?
  11. Hey! I got my biota mandarin a few days ago and kept him in a breeder box in the tank. I decided to release the mandarin so he can start picking on the rocks. However, the six line wrasse has been very agressive towards the tiny tiny mandarin (quarter size). I decided to put him back in the box. I thought these two were compatible.
  12. Thanks! I tested fresh mixed saltwater and got 1200ppm! Could this be the reason? Maybe a got Instant Ocean Reef Crystals batch with low Mg.
  13. Hello! So, here's my new adventure... feeding my tiny tiny l Biota Mandarin... I started a copepod culture (a mix of Tigriopus and Tisbe Copepods ranging from juvenile to adult sizes). I have them in a 1 gallon tank with airflow and phythofeast. I read that you do not need a heater, but the water temp dropped to 64F, so my question is, should I add a small heater? Also, if you can provide more guidance on the collection and maintenance of this little tank, please.
  14. I don't think there is much you can do until it's quarantined. I would keep feeding him meaty food with selcon and monitor progress.
  15. Here's a good guide for cultivating pods. Maybe the temp dont let them reproduce as much? https://www.themandaringarden.com/how-to-culture-copepods.html
  16. So, this happened yesterday . I was so excited that forgot to fix the focus of my camera. It looks like they are testing the anemone for safety? lol
  17. I can tell you about my experience with anemones and a new tank (40IM). I added two anemones when my tank was 1-2 months old and I can tell you that is better to wait a bit more before adding them to a new tank. A 45g is relatively a small tank where parameters change very quickly and anemones do not like this. Both of them lost all of their tentacles and I lost hope. I was giving up but kept feeding them. As the tank matured they regained their tentacles and are thriving. I later got a third one and this one did not go through any issues at all because the tank was more stable. I do recommend that you get an ATO system to help with salinity. As recently as yesterday, I placed an order for a Biota Mandarin and I expect to receive it tomorrow. I've been doing some preparation for it (seeding my tank with copepods, adding marine pure bioballs to the back of my all-in-one tank to serve as a "pod refugium", and also bought a 1 gallon tank to use it to cultivate more pods in case the refugium is not enough.
  18. That's why I was curious about this issue. I use a calibrated refractometer and I keep salinity about 1.025. I have not tested fresh mixed water for Magnesium, but will do it next time and no kalk reactor. I also use Salifert Mg test kit.
  19. Hey! So during the past 2 months I've noticed that my Mg gets depleted faster than Ca. KH also goes down but since this is found in less concentration it's expected. What do you recommend for increasing Mg? I use RedSea REEF FOUNDATION, but looks like it wont be the best option in the long term.
  20. wow. I remember you gave me most of the GSP and now it looks even bigger.
  21. Hey I thoght emeral crabs were reef safe, but I saw one eating my montipora (see pic). There was no visible algae or detritus.
